Values Voter Guide

Chances are, if you are a Christian, you have already seen the Values Voter Guide.

If not, then I am posting it here for you to read before you go into the voting booth on Super Tuesday.

Vision America Action:

Values Voter Guide for Presidential Candidates

God has granted to you an instrumental role in determining who will lead this Nation for the next four years. Five different candidates have won in the early primaries. Super Tuesday states should decide the nominees for each party.

Vision America Action hasn't endorsed a candidate and is legally precluded from doing so. Under the very restrictive McCain-Feingold law, what Vision America Action is permitted to do is to tell you about the positions of the candidates on important issues and policies. You as an individual must make up your own mind. As you make up your mind, you should be aware of the facts about the issues that will impact our nation for years -- generations -- to come. As I stated three months ago, "This is the primary season where little is much in terms of turnout, and now is the time for us to rally our people for our core values."

Another important aspect to remember as well: How long have each of these candidates held their positions on these core values? Is their position an election year conversion? Or is it a lifelong, dedicated and consistent core value to them? You need to look at these candidates - and find out who is saying what they truly believe and who is saying what they think you want to hear right now, just before an election.

Here are core values that most Values Voters focus on [Note: The following didn't copy and paste very well, please click on the "Select Here" button below for the pdf file].

In each category, I have highlighted in red, and bolded the Republican candidates whose positions agree with typical Reagan Conservative positions.

I have highlighted in blue the Democrat candidates positions.

Romney is the FORMER Governor of Mass. He no longer has any power in the state. He should publically make a statement regarding his inappropriate action regarding this issue, but that's about all he can do, unless he become's President (even then it's not clear if he could do anything about it).

Hi Matt,

Yes. He is the former Governor. I should have been more clear. That is a copy of an old email that I saved. It shows how he didn't do enough to prevent "gay" marriage from happening in Mass.

I just noticed that my hasty copy and paste job caused this thread to post in a weird way. I am going to delete the above one and re-paste it after this comment.

Just read an article by Alan Keyes regarding Romney's role in allowing "gay" marriage to happen in Massachusetts.

Althought the Values Voter Guide states that Romney is for the Federal Marriage Amendment, we must note what Keyes has said about Romney's role in helping the first state in the U.S. to allow "gay" marriage.

Keyes Article

I did some research and found an email from MassResistance that was written in December, 2006. It was the last plea for then Gov. Romney to correct his errors in the gay marriage fiasco.

Here's a copy:
TAKE ACTION! Demand to Gov. Mitt Romney: Correct your mistakes that began same-sex "marriage". You have two weeks left in office! ===

Over the past few weeks the national controversy over Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney's apparent "conversion" to conservatism -- started by our report being circulated across the country -- has become a firestorm. It's been in most of the major newspapers, in magazines from National Review Online to New Republic, and on political blogs everywhere. On Tuesday, on the Brit Hume show (Fox News) they credited MassResistance for causing the trouble!

At the same time, the Romney camp has been scrambling to "prove" to the public that he's indeed a real conservative -- now.

Well, from all this we've been getting pressure from people to call on Gov. Mitt Romney in these final two weeks of his term. If he's now as conservative as he claims, demand that he take true decisive action -- via Executive Order -- and right the wrongs that were done by his administration regarding the same-sex "marriage" debacle in Massachusetts! SEE ACTION ALERT INFO BELOW.

Romney needs to correct his mistakes. We've called him "the father of gay marriage" because he did things he didn't have to do that made it happen. Here's the background:

What did the Goodridge decision actually say?

To start with of all, the 2003 Goodridge SJC decision on same-sex "marriage", which reversed a lower court ruling, said 4 things:

First, it acknowledged that the current law does not permit same-sex marriage.

"The only reasonable explanation is that the Legislature did not intend that same-sex couples be licensed to marry. We conclude, as did the judge, that G.L. c. 207 may not be construed to permit same-sex couples to marry."

Second, it said it is NOT striking down the marriage laws (among other things, the Massachusetts Constitution forbids a court to change laws)

"Here, no one argues that striking down the marriage laws is an appropriate form of relief."

Third, it declared that not allowing same-sex marriages is a violation of the Massachusetts Constitution. (And the logic they use for this is truly bizarre; you must read it in full sometime.)

"We declare that barring an individual from the protections, benefits, and obligations of civil marriage solely because that person would marry a person of the same sex violates the Massachusetts Constitution."

And fourth, given that the court is not changing any laws, the SJC gave the Legislature 180 days to "take such action as it may deem appropriate."

"We vacate the summary judgment for the department. We remand this case to the Superior Court for entry of judgment consistent with this opinion. Entry of judgment shall be stayed for 180 days to permit the Legislature to take such action as it may deem appropriate in light of this opinion."

What happened then?

The Legislature did nothing. It took no action. So after the 180 days Gov. Romney took action on his own!

Gov. Romney's Legal Counsel issued a directive to the Justices of the Peace that they must perform same-sex marriages when requested or "face personal liability" or be fired. (At least one Justice of the Peace, Linda Gray Kelley, was forced to resign for religious reasons.)

Romney's staff held training sessions for Town Clerks, warning them to "implement" the Court decision and "uphold the law" -- although the training document admits that the marriage statutes have not been changed.

Romney directed his Department of Public Health to change the state marriage license to read "Party A" and Party "B", replacing "Husband" and "Wife". None of this was required by any law passed by the legislature or even ordered by the court.

Note here that Romney wasn't ordered by the court or anyone else to do anything at all. On the contrary, commentators across the country, from Professor Hadley Arkes to Pat Buchanan to the Family Research Council (and even Ron Crews of Mass. Family Institute) advised Romney to ignore the ruling. And Romney could legally ignore it because the Massachusetts Constitution expressly forbids the Judiciary making laws or ordering another branch to do something.

There is strong precedent for ignoring such a court decision

President Abraham Lincoln refused to enforce the 1857 Dred Scott decision, which had declared that a slave was the property of the master, even if they were both physically in a free state. Lincoln said in his Inaugural Address of 1861 that if he did so, the people would have ceased to be their own rulers:

"[I]f the policy of the Government upon vital questions affecting the whole people is to be irrevocably fixed by decisions of the Supreme Court, the instant they are made...the people will have ceased to be their own rulers, having to that extent practically resigned their Government into the hands of the eminent tribunal."

Abraham Lincoln refused to enforce the court ruling, and he is universally applauded for his refusal.

Take action right now!!

We've all had enough of this sham.

Tell Governor Romney: You MUST issue an Executive Order to:

Reverse your onerous directives to Executive Branch officials (as outlined above: Justices of the Peace, Town Clerks, and the Dept. of Public Health) that actually implemented same-sex "marriages".

Publicly declare the truth: that same-sex "marriages" which have taken place in Massachusetts are without statutory basis. Therefore, they are null and void.

What about Deval Patrick and the new Legislature?

Whatever the new governor and legislature do in the future, this must be done now. Romney himself should do the right thing. This will make it plain to the whole country that these actions and "marriages" are without statutory basis. Whatever the new governor and legislature do would then be an admission that this whole thing has been a farce. Moreover, it would be a great educational experience for the whole country on constitutional government, tyranny, corruption, the dishonesty of the mainstream media. We would not be worse off, only better off, for exposing the fantasy world everybody's been living in for the past 2 1/2 years.
