'Last days' are imminent - by Jonathan Falwell

There is no doubt that the drama is mounting in the Middle East, and the eyes of the world are again focused on this volatile region. This week, AP reported that a recent Israeli military exercise may have been intended to show the nation's abilities to attack Iranian nuclear facilities. The prophetic "last days" are rapidly approaching!

If you go to the Digg site, you will read some posts by scoffers. I tried to share the truth of God's Word with them. We will soon see what their responses will be.

Digg commenter "seala" wrote:

I have been hearing these words from preachers and pastors for over 30 years. It leads to an uncaring apolitical approach to life by too many Christians.A" Who cares about what the world will be like in our grandchildrens' time, Jesus will have come by them" attitude to the world. As Billybob28 put it "focus on living out your faith through love as Paul tells us" -including Love for those yet to be born

My reply:

seala - What about Jesus' admonition to watch for His return? He mentioned the signs of the times would be as in the days of Noah and the days of Lot. What do we know about those days? Hearts grew cold towards God. Noah's warnings were ignored by the violent, sexually immoral people. Sodom and Gomorrah was filled with the sin of homosexuality.

Look at today! Do you see similarities? Even your attitude shows disdain for fellow Christian believers that are still sharing the gospel and warning about the judgment that is to come.

You are correct that we are to live out our faith through love. But wouldn't you agree that one way we love nonbelievers is to warn them of dying without Jesus and being separated from God forever as a result?

We are to live, work, watch and pray. Jesus told us that all of these things are important. It is my hope that you will study your Bible more so that you will be prepared to evangelize the unsaved until Jesus returns. That is our duty as Christians. Remember the Great Commission given by Jesus before his ascension into heaven to be with the Father?

My comment to the scoffers who posted there:

How ironic. The scoffers here - most likely unbeknownst to them - are also involved in the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy.

2Pe 3:1 ¶ This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in [both] which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2Pe 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.

2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Christians may not know the day nor hour, but we have absolute confidence that Jesus will one day return. Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies in his first coming. Our faith is a reasonable and evidential one. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. We must believe that God is. Jesus asks each of us, "Who do you say that I am?"

I think that the fulfillment of hundreds of Old Testament prophecies by one Man - the Son of God who is Jesus the Messiah - ranks up there in mathematical probability for his return to fulfill the rest of the prophecies about Him as well as His promises to those who confess Jesus as Savior and Lord!

Despite your current rejection of Jesus and His Word, the Bible, there is still hope for non-believers! - That is, if you repent in time...

2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The rest of 2 Peter informs us of how suddenly "the Day of the Lord" will come upon the earth.

2Pe 3:10 ¶ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

In the next verse, we are also informed that as followers of Jesus, we are to be in "[all] holy conversation and godliness." Such a thing is definitely counter-culture! The secular humanist's "god" is tolerance, moral relativism, sexual immorality, and the "anything goes" type of attitude. No one is supposed to make any judgments. THAT IS THE MYTH! It is one of Satan's best schemes...tolerate evil and sin to our detriment - to our physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual death.

2Pe 3:11 [Seeing] then [that] all these things shall be dissolved, what manner [of persons] ought ye to be in [all] holy conversation and godliness,

If the following verse does not say "judgment" all over it, then you are not reading it correctly!

2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

That's right. Believe the enemy of our souls and don't even worry about it all! /sarcasm

The following is a promise of our reward for being faithful.

2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Just Whom is the One that we may be found of him in peace? Who is without spot? Who is blameless? Jesus Christ!

2Pe 3:14 ¶ Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Think about what Jesus endured on the cross for you and your sins! The gospels and epistle writings are in the Bible to teach you "according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you."

2Pe 3:15 And account [that] the longsuffering of our Lord [is] salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

We may not understand everything. No one does. But the Bible provides everything that we need to know about Jesus and salvation! Those who do not study the Bible and apply it to their lives are FOOLISH! They will end up "unto their own destruction."

2Pe 3:16 As also in all [his] epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as [they do] also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

The next verse is a warning to nominal Christians. Without stedfast faith in Jesus Christ - being born again as Jesus tells us in John 3:3, one can fall for "the error of the wicked."

2Pe 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know [these things] before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

We are to have "the mind of Christ." How do we do that? First, by being born again. Second, by studying and applying Scripture and growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ!

2Pe 3:18 But grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Seems to me as though rearlgrant and HotDogBun may be on to something. You said it yourself:

Why, yes, I do. There were similarities in 1350, when the Black Death was killing 1 out of every 4 Europeans; there were similarities in 1666(!) whe the Great Fire swept through London; there were similarities in 1755, when Lisbon was demolished by an earthquake, which started fires, which were extinguished by a tsunami; there were similarities in the San Francisco earthquake 102 years ago, and certainly in New Orleans three years ago. There was slavery; there were alleged holy men practicing the most venial of crimes; there was widespread injustice; and there were scoffers.
And you know what? Jesus didn't show.
According to Peter's calendar, Jesus left only two days ago; maybe he's not ready to rush back down yet. Isn't he supposed to ride to the rescue at the very last moment, anyway? So upwards of 90% of all are going to perish, no matter how much God is 'willing' otherwise.

And if the "last days are imminent", you should be clapping your hands and preparing to dance the Macarena to my screams of agony. After all, you'll be saved.

I was kinda surprised the other day when I learned that Gred Koukl is a Post-Tribber... not that that really matters(though I do think the evidence from scripture points to pre-trib)... Pre-trip, post-trip, mid-trib-it doesn't change the way we are supposed to live.

How much longer will it be? 1 year, 20 years, 50 year, 500 years... it doesn't matter, it doesn't change the way we are supposed to live.

I too am of the opinion that it will be reletively soon, meaning in the coming decade or so, but obviously, I don't know, I could easily be off by a few centuries.

I do find end times Prophesy interesting, but it doesn't change the way we are supposed to live. We need to be learning and growing and trying to reach other people for Christ, so that more can be saved.

One thing that has really been on my heart a lot lately is the fact of how seldom most Christians even open thier Bibles outside of Church (if they even do there) and, in fact, less and less new Christians even bother to own a Bible to have in thier home. That to me is pretty sad. Not only are people not paying attention to the signs of the times, but they don't even bother with the basics of the faith... how sad is that?

Hi Zach,

You are most welcome! I really appreciated what you wrote. It seems that informed and intelligent Australian writers are very astute at determining and discerning the liberal MSM bias. In fact, far better than perhaps the average citizen here in the U.S.A.!!

Thanks for sounding the alarm bells about Obama. I have been doing the same thing since day one!

Sincerely,
Christine

GM,

My comment reply to you just got zapped by the google blogger monster! Let's see if I can recall what I wrote.

Oh yes. The examples that you gave did not fit many of the additional end times prophecies contained in the Bible. It was only in the 20th century that man invented the airplane to have the ability to quickly travel the world - "people traveling to and fro."

Also, the Bible informs us that "knowledge will increase." That has happened exponentially in the computer age.

Jesus told us that everyone will see his return. People can now access the internet with their cell phones and iphones. That is a much more recent development.

We don't know if it will be 5 years away or 50. But many Christians evaluate the "signs of the times" (as Jesus instructed us to do) and see the end coming ever so closer.

One last thing. No matter when Jesus returns, each generation needs to be prepared. Those who were prepared back during the dates you listed were waiting, watching, and working - everything that Jesus told them (and us) to do. We are not to be caught off-guard. Yet, with only 4% of the general public having a biblical worldview and only 9% of evangelicals believing in the biblical worldview, we see that many "hearts have turned cold" and have turned away from the truth. The study I am involved in is covering this in great detail.

Your final destination rests in your free will decision regarding Christ's question, "Who do you say that I am?"

Every soul will spend eternity somewhere. The choice is clear. Jesus told us that if we don't believe in him then we will die in our sins. The choice is yours.

Didn't I already answer that?
The answer (not "decision", ma'am) was "Legend".

But cheer up; no matter what worldview you have, most of the rest of the world disagrees with you. We're all in this together, like it or not.

Your answer is also a decision- of sorts. Since you didn't agree with Jesus (regarding who he said he is - the Son of God), then, in fact, you are claiming that he isn't Christ the Lord.
