President Bush called the execution a historical moment in Iraq's road to democracy.
"Saddam Hussein's execution comes at the end of a difficult year for the Iraqi people and for our troops," he said. "Bringing Saddam Hussein to justice will not end the violence in Iraq, but it is an important milestone on Iraq's course to becoming a democracy that can govern, sustain and defend itself, and be an ally in the war on terror."

Newsweek videotaper of Saddam's execution:
'I Saw Fear, He Was Afraid'
I don't generally take joy in another person's death. In this case, though, if ever a human deserved to be put to death, it is certainly Saddam. The world would have been a much more peaceful place had he not been in power to begin with. Unfortunately, we'll be dealing with the fall-out of his reign of terror for generations to come.
ReplyDeleteNot that I was intently looking for this, but LGF made it easy. They found a post done over at Kos where a blogger actually mourns for this brutal, merciless, miserably murderous dictator! I would't have believed it unless I read it for myself!
ReplyDeleteLiberal Left-Wing LUNATIC mourns Saddam?
What an absolute idiot!
HELLO!!?? There are evil people in the world...and one of them just left it!
Sorry if this sounds mean...but really! Mourning for Saddam is like mourning for Satan!
To be honest I've spared a thought or two for Saddam since I heard the news.
ReplyDeleteHe was an evil man and he deserved death.
I read the post you linked to and I can respect that persons viewpoint. I'm glad that I live in a world where people can show compassion for an enemy. Even one as brutal as Saddam.
Let's not forget that Jesus told us to love our enemies. I'm too weak to love Saddam but I will pray for him.
I wouldn't mourn for Satan, but I certainly pray for him, just as I have prayed for Saddam.
ReplyDeleteThe man died believing he was going to be a martyr, rewarded by his god with virgins and such. Can you imagine the look on his face when he realized he was burning in hell? Still, if we are to live by Jesus' example, we must practice forgiveness and pray for the lost souls.
Since I was brought up in the Catholic church, I know that some people believe in praying for the dead. However, it is not biblical. The time to pray for individuals is when they are still alive.
ReplyDeleteI still remember the prayer to Mary:
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
I don't want to make this too long, but Mary was the mother of Jesus, not God. She wasn't "holy," she was a virgin so that Jesus could be born without the sin of man, but she was a sinner just like everyone else.
However, she most definitely holds a place of honor for being Jesus' mother. I do think that the prayer request to pray "at the hour of our death" is accurate. It may even serve as a correction to the concept of praying for "the dead." The Bible says that "the dead need no help." Each person's fate is already sealed by the decision (or, indecision) for Christ while still alive. After death, it's to late.
Satan's fate is sealed, too. We must remember that as Lucifer, he was a mighty angel whose iniquity (and thirst to be worshipped, rather than worshipping the Creator God) caused him to be cast out of heaven. He, along with the 1/3 of angels that fell with him have their fate sealed. They chose rebellion against God.
The remaining angels are sealed with God and similarly to our decision for Christ (as human beings)their fate and continuance as holy angels is sealed as well.
Hi Tom,
Welcome to Talkwisdom. I noticed at your blog that you changed over from an anonymous commenter to an official blogger.
I will let Jaded explain what she meant by her post.
For me, I often pray for the Lord to keep Satan away and to "deliver us from evil." The Bible says that Satan is the "father of lies and the truth is not in him." He was a "liar from the beginning." When iniquity was found in him, he lost the spiritual connection with God that he once enjoyed as a glorious angel named "Lucifer." Unfortunately, his fate is now sealed, while us sinners who repent are saved through Jesus' sacrificial death at the cross.
The Bible tells us that hell was created for Satan and his demons. However, if we continue in our rebellion against God and do not repent for our sins and accept what Jesus did at the cross on our behalf, we cannot be reconciled back to God. When we reject Him, we then seal our fate along with Satan's fate.
You probably already know all of this, but I wanted to explain for any new readers.
