Who Do You Know?
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3

At the world's trendiest night spots and restaurants, long lines of the hopeful form who want to be admitted. They stand behind velvet ropes under the watchful eye of those who keep the door. Suddenly, an individual walks past the long line of hopefuls, catches the eye of the doorkeeper, and is motioned forward. The clasp on the velvet rope is released, the door is opened, and the favored guest enters in, leaving all the rest to wonder, "Who does he know that we don't know?"
It's from those kinds of situations in life that the familiar expression arose, "It's not what you know but who you know that matters." And that is definitely true when it comes to eternal life. Jesus said that not everyone who called Him "Lord" would enter the kingdom of heaven. To those who practice lawlessness, His reply to their, "Lord, Lord," will be, "I never knew you." There is a difference in knowing about God and actually knowing Him. And only by knowing Him do the doors to the kingdom of heaven and eternal life open.
Do you know God or only know about Him? Gaining access to a restaurant brings enjoyment for a night. Gaining access to heaven brings joy forever.
Oh, the fullness, pleasure, sheer excitement of knowing God on Earth! Jim Elliot

There was a movie I remember watching in an MYF meeting when I was a kid. It talked about the kind of people who are Christians when it's convenient. Some only go to church on the "big" holidays, and some go every week just to show people how devout they are. But, in their daily lives, that all falls by the wayside. They called these people "Super Christians." To be honest, I don't remember why that was the term, but it's one that's stuck with me all these years. "Super Christians" want to be seen doing good things or in church, but they don't really know what it means to be a Christian.
Your post reminded me of that movie.
I hope all is well. Sorry I haven't been around much...things here are busy as we prepare for Jadette's IEP meeting and her dance recital. Everything should go back to normal after June 16.
Hi Jaded!
Nice to see you back. I understand how it is when life gets busy with family! Going through that myself this week!
Sounds like an interesting movie. Perhaps the term "super" in "Super Christians" was an abbreviation for "superficial"?
I used to be one (a superficial Christian, that is) but it wasn't until I was born again in Christ that I realized it!
The Lord's patience is amazing! So is His mercy and grace!
How exciting to hear about Jadette's dance recital! Take video and lots of pics! When she gets to be my daughter's age (19), it will be so fun for her to look back at herself at this age!
Enjoy that special day!
Love in the Lord,
Christine
