The following is but one example:
Thou Shall Not Kill Unless You Hate Liberals.
Well guess what? In the time it took for me to go to the grocery store and back, my comment was deleted from that site! Good thing I saved a copy of it.
First, here is the post in it's entirety:
This seems to be the new attitude among some arrogant Conservative Christians, a [sic] attitude that lead [sic] to one mans death at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church. According to Knoxville's Police Chief Sterling Owen IV, the gunman Jim D. Adkisson expressed that he was upset about liberal Churches and liberal Christians. This shooting lead to the death of 2 people and wounded 7 others, this past Sunday Morning.
I have been saying for sometime [should read two words] that Conservative Christians have this arrogant point of view, that they are [grammar?] alone are the only true Christians. The reality is when you compare Christian Fundamentalism and Islamic Fundamentalism, they are very similar. Both lead to hate, and hate leads to violence. Only a [sic] arrogant idiot would think that his or hers [sic] political views, make him or her somehow a better person of faith, but that is what you get from the Religious Right.
Those who wish to combine politics and faith into one, have more in common with Sharia Law than they are willing to admit. The truth is Fundamental Christians are not interested in a Democracy and a wide range of views, but they want to eliminate different points of views [sic]. We see this like [grammar] in the case of Anglican Bishop Orama from Africa who said "Gays don't have a right to live", and now we see this in this [redundant phrasing] case in Knoxville, where the answer is to kill people off who view things differently than you do. This is not Christianity folks, this is Religious Terrorism.

My comment:
As a Bible-believing conservative Christian and follower of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, I must say that it is highly critical of you to lump all of us in with one troubled person who would go in and shoot up a church.
Perhaps you should have done more research before posting your error-filled viewpoint. Apparently, the murderer also hated Christians.
True Christian faith is about encouraging people to repent of their sin (no matter what kind of sin that may be); trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (so that the Holy Spirit of God will indwell the believer's heart), and evangelizing the world - just as Christ instructed in the Great Commission.
It is about teaching that we are all sinners in desperate need of the Savior.
It is about repentance, which leads to mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
It is about agreeing with God about our wretchedness and inability to save ourselves from sin and eternal death.
It is about acknowledging our helplessness and hopelessness in being reconciled unto Holy God because of our sinful nature.
It is about recognizing that Jesus' words, "if you do not believe in me, you will die in your sins" should be taken seriously.
The bad news of our sin condition has to be shared as well as the Good News of the Gospel. Why? Because of our need for repentance. I am no better than you; you are no worse than I. However, both of us must repent of our sins and answer Jesus' question regarding, "Who do you say that I am?"
I know that many gay behavior affirming churches (like the one where this murderous rampage happened) typically avoid the need for repentance of the sin of homosexuality. This, unfortunately, has caused great confusion. However, keep in mind that you could substitute any other kind of sin in the above sentence. If a person holds back and does not repent, then his soul is in danger of being condemned eternally.
You might ask, how do I know this? Because God's written Word informs us of this fact.
Jhn 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Obviously, the man who shot congregants at that church wasn't interested in saving any souls. True Christian believers do not want "anyone to perish" without Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The greatest commandment is to love the Lord Thy God with all of your heart, your mind, your soul, and your strength.
Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment.
Included in that commandment was to "love thy neighbor as thyself."
Part of loving our neighbor is to tell them the truth about their sinful condition (a condition which includes all of us).
If you would read that article at Fox News, you will plainly see that the shooter rejected the Christian faith and God's Word, the Bible.
The Bible tells us:
Hbr 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Ours is a reasonable faith, backed up by the fact of Jesus' visit to this earth, sacrificial death on the cross, and resurrection to life. This is a fact of history - as real and genuine as anything else recorded in all of history. Whether you, the shooter, the congregation (being that they are Universalists who do not think that Jesus is the only way to God) believe it or not is irrelevant.
It happened.
It is a fact.
No other religious leader ever claimed to die for the sins of men and had the ability to come back to life to prove his claims.
Jesus did.
And there were eye witnesses to the events, recorded in Scripture and elsewhere.
Lastly, let me be clear. Those who are genuinely born again in Jesus Christ are not out to murder those who do not believe as we do. However, we do follow Jesus' commandment to "go into all nations and share the gospel, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
I don't see anything in such words that would motivate a true Christian to go into a church and shoot it up - do you?
Doing so is the sin of taking matters into one's own hands rather than relying on the timeless truth of the gospel of Christ as it is revealed in God's Word.
Admittedly, prior to being born again in Christ, I did not always "love my neighbors." It was only when I was converted and transformed by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God that I found myself wanting to live for God and share the Gospel. Before that, I was - quite frankly - indifferent. Indifference is a sin, too.
Have you ever considered the parable of the pearl of great price? I would encourage you to read this page.
Those Christians who genuinely understand the priceless value of God's gift to the world - namely - Jesus Christ, do not trust in a gun for political, social, individual, or spiritual gain.
They just don't.
I pray that what I have shared will touch your heart; and that if you don't already know Him, that you will find the true Messiah.
The "pearl of great price" is Jesus Christ our Lord.

Wow, what an outstanding reply.
ReplyDeleteAlso, people always want to lump all Christians in with Islamic Terrorists when just one Christian does something like this, but, as you point out, a true Christian who really understands Christianity would never think that this was a way to go. With Islam, while there are quite a few Muslims who don't see things that way, the ones that do aren't actually wrong, what they are doing is a valid way to view, at least parts, of Islamic teaching.
Thanks Matt - and thank you for sharing that point about comparing the "religious right" with Islamic terrorists. I did leave out addressing that in my answer.

So typical of liberals. They can't counter the messenger who shares the truth, therefore, they choose to delete the message?
That guy obviously desires to continue living in his own spiritual oblivion...
I also find it kinda funny that he deleted your comment, because, in so doing, he did exactly what he accused Christians of, silencing at all cost anyone who disagree's.
ReplyDeleteYou don't judge an ideology by those who violate its tenets.
ReplyDeleteYou do judge it by those who adhere to its tenets.
If the press would keep that in mind they would have no problem understanding authentic Christianity vs. authentic Islam.
Mat 26:51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out [his] hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.
ReplyDeleteMat 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
1 Peter 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
This whole argument from the left shows their total ignorance of the Bible. David was being hunted by King Saul and David had several opportunities to kill King Saul (1 Samual 24:1-20) but never did. And King David did punish those who falsely claimed victory against Saul (2 Samuel 1:4 , 2 Samual 1:14-15).
ReplyDeleteIf Unitarians are liberal Christians then let them explain this verse to me:
Psalms 105:15 [Saying], Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
And explain to me why we're responsible for every nut that takes vengeance instead of obeying the Lord to turn the other cheek and to let the Lord alone to take vengeance:
Luke 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but [rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
In fact, I think this is a good example for the left to accuse Obama's campaign for taking on Dobson if they are to be consistent with taking on Christians because Obama's campaign isn't following Romans 12:19 so if they don't have faith in the Bible then what great faith do they have?
I don't consider Universalists to be Christians and the left are confused and Biblically ignorant.

Matt,
ReplyDeleteIt gets even worse! Apparently, they have a call-in radio show advertised on that blog! If they don't allow comments from people who disagree with them, then I doubt that they would take any calls from the opposing side, either.
Must be quite boring to only have a one-sided conversation going on...
Neil wrote: "You don't judge an ideology by those who violate its tenets.

Excellent point!
But distorting the genuine tenets of true Christian faith is what the liberal media (and their cronies) desire to do. Instead of exposing the distorted views of a few - who obviously get it terribly wrong - they parade such people and views as legitimate! And, many reporters don't even bother giving the true Christians a voice on their shows to counter such distortions.
Our "The Truth Project" group actively discussed this at last night's meeting. The topic being investigated was about how people have deliberately distorted history today in order to suppress our Christian heritage and put forth their own, godless agenda. It was really quite interesting to see such a thing exposed in that way!
Thanks for sharing all of those Scriptures, Sosthenes.
ReplyDeletePeople would not make such huge mistakes in judgment of Bible believing, Jesus following Christians if they only were much more aware of what God's Word actually says rather than what they (errantly) believe Christians "think."
Wow! “Well said” if I may quote another comment that was not deleted at “The Political Spectrum.”
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing to see Jesus in your life and words, Christine. Would you have written this and worded it as you did just three short years ago when we met via the Internet?
What a joy to see the love of Christ becoming greater in your heart and life as I hope you see happening in mine also. We learn more and more how to put on humility as we grow spiritually. You are growing with leaps and bounds!
Spiritual growth is an increase in our knowledge of God and the one he sent (JOH 17:3). This is what eternal life is all about. Christianity is a lifestyle the Lord develops after we are “born again.”
Keep shining and giving the Messiah’s light to the world via Talk Wisdom, my sister! It is beautiful. God bless you this day. (ss)
Studying and sharing God's Word is one of the best ways to grow. Even after more than 20 years of it, I am amazed by how much more there is to learn...and share... from the Lord, each and every day! We never stop growing...and learning!
ReplyDeleteI went back to that site and clicked on the link to the article about the terrible church shooting. It was a link to a site called "Gay 365"...or something like that.
Well...I'd rather read about Jesus - 365 days a year - through God's written Word!
Thanks for the "well said" compliment. I know that I owe it all to the Lord and his faithful leading of me! The glory is His - alone!
I'm tempted to go back over there to post "well said...NOT!" But that's just "the flesh" rising up in me! heh heh...
Justin and Rob (the web sites writers) are utter morons. The fact they deleted your comment - and both of them claim to be followers of Christ; shows how utterly depraved the "gay christian" movement is. Good work Christine!
ReplyDeleteYour last words made me laugh out loud! I can identify so well. (ss)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of laughing out loud, take a look at the loonie leftists across the big pond -
ReplyDeleteBeware your children: They might be 'Climate Cops'
Company recruits kids to keep records, bust parents for 'energy crimes'
Energy crimes???
I just bought a boat load of incandescent bulbs from CVS Pharmacy...they had a 50% off sale! Are any 'climate cops' coming to arrest me?
;-)
At least if one of the bulbs breaks, I won't need to spend hundreds of dollars cleaning up the mercury from those new 'green' bulbs!
Well, it probably is boring, but then again, "Get off the phone you big DOPE!" works for Mark Levin.... actually, he does allow some disagreement, he just doesn't like talking points...
ReplyDeleteHa! And the way Levin says it always makes me chuckle.
ReplyDeleteSean Hannity lets the liberals call in and speak on his radio show. However, when they go off the topic; or, won't answer questions; or, won't allow a conversation to develop and obviously get on the show to simply spew their loonie leftist rhetoric - unchallenged - it is then that Hannity cuts them off. Legitimate reasons for him to do that, IMO.
More about the church shooting backs up what I had written in response to "The Political Spectrum" blog post:
ReplyDeleteShooting suspect 'turned angry' at Bible
'He said that everything in Scripture contradicts itself if you read it'
Too bad he doesn't actually read the Bible. If you really read it, you will learn to understand that it doesn't contradict itself, it's when you want it to say one thing and it doesn't that you will claim that it is self-contradictory.
ReplyDeleteWhat a coward! I was wondering if your comment wasn't accepted by him. Not only was it not accepted, but he deleted it after it was posted! Lol! His deletion proved his cowardice and like Susan noted above, his one comment shown says "Well said."
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for the barrage of articles to blame the "Christian Right" for that 'terrorist attack." And yep, none of us are surprised.
Good post Christine and thanks for sharing your comment to this spineless person!
It is always easier to generalize those you disagree with then talk with them and understand them. Sadly, it happens all too often.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I stopped by in hopes you could pray for me and my family as our dog just underwent major and expensive surgery and we are praying for his recovery and financial assistance to cover the expense.
John,
ReplyDeleteOf course I will pray for your family and for the recovery of your dog. What is his name?
I can sympathize with you and your family in your current situation. Our older dog, Heidi, (American Eskimo) has two ailments (urinary cancer and kidney disease). She is 15 years old. She was not expected to live more than a week back in Dec. 2007. Through extra care and juggling two medications, we have been blessed to have her for these extra months (almost 7 months longer than expected!). However, she has not been eating much lately. She is losing weight, very lethargic and we just don't know how much longer she will be with us. It's hard. Pets are like family members.
Hi Carlotta and all,
ReplyDeleteA blogger named "Kevin" is a friend of the guys at "The Political Spectrum" site. He told me that they do not publish any comments that include Christian evangelism in them. Here is what Kevin wrote:
"Your comment was deleted because Rob has a policy that people are not to evangelize at his blog."
How hypocritical is that? The problem is, my post wasn't only about evangelism. If it was, I would have shared much more than I did (included John 3). What I wrote was directed at their inaccuracies concerning the views of the "religious right" and conservative Christians. Using the excuse of "not allowing evangelism" to censor replies to their errant views about Christians is just one more example showing them to be devoid of any truth.
People like them don't like it when they are shown to be in error. Rather than compete in a well-reasoned worldview debate, they saw the emptiness of their lies and took the easy way out. I've got a suggestion for a new motto at their blog - "When we can't compete, we just delete!"
Yes. Such a tactic displays cowardice. Instead of choosing to counter what I shared they chose to delete it. You described them very well, Carlotta, when you wrote that they are "spineless."
"When we can't compete, we just delete!"
ReplyDeleteLOL! Oh my goodness Christine, that was so funny! You're a poet and don't know it! Lol! Hey, it's okay to have a sense of humor in the midst of unfunny business!
But on the serious side, it's true when it comes to truth, some people just can't take it. Most of us dealing with these written debates find ourselves in the position of being "deleted" when the truth becomes too unbearable. You'd think you had written something profane or disrespectful, but not the case at all. Just truth. It hurts. So delete.
That "evangelize" argument was a very weak excuse. Because in some aspects, EVERYONE is evangelizing! It's just some are using different "gospels" that they're trying to convince people of!
Oh by the way, John's dog is named Kane. I went on his website and he has the most adorable pics of Kane and his daughter! I've been praying for him!
Anyways, I've been praying for all of us also in this work of apologetics and for those who we're in discussions with for them to have an open heart and open mind to receive the truths of the Word of God!
People like them don't like it when they are shown to be in error. Rather than compete in a well-reasoned worldview debate, they saw the emptiness of their lies and took the easy way out. I've got a suggestion for a new motto at their blog - "When we can't compete, we just delete!"
ReplyDeleteI have chosen to counter what you share (especially since you all but dared me to come here). I have no blog. I can be deleted. Usually (at least on your forum), you choose the other method: "When we can't say more, we just ignore!"
The discussion forum is littered with the corpses of threads you simply bailed from...although you've gotten an impressive 1400 hits on the "Rationalizing God's Latest 'Felony'?" thread in the last couple of weeks.
Now, about these shootings:
We know Adkisson claimed he hated liberals, gays, Christians, etc., and that he couldn't get a job. Perhaps one reason why he couldn't was because of this. However, everyone except the police seems to have overlooked the fact that the church where he murdered two people and shot six more was a church where his ex-wife had been a member; it's just possible that he was attempting to hit back at the people he believes had led to the breakup of his marriage!
It's also obvious to me that Adkisson was depressed and suicidal, but lacked the 'nads to kill himself (suicide is a sin, right?), so he decided he'd commit a capital crime and have the state kill him. With a shotgun and nearly 80 rounds of ammo, he was prepared to turn the church into a slaughterhouse, and ready to go down shooting.
Well, he'll probably get his wish, now. Too bad two people had to die for him to get it, but hey...it's all part of the Plan.
I think Adkisson only chose that church for the reason I stated above. It couldn't have been any other, because of his mindset. So, I don't believe it can be construed as a hate crime. He hated liberals and gays, but that was his lookout: maybe he didn't actually know any. He certainly didn't seem to know Christ, but that Old Testament stuff about smiting unbelievers he seems to have known quite well.
You don't have to keep the wagons in a circle, hostess. Let's see how many 'Bible-believing conservative Christians' will visit him in prison. The Unitarians he victimized don't seem to be holding a grudge.
Europe is a hard place to evangelize as one missionary organization says they are losing one missionary a year and there are several reasons for this because Europe is becoming more secular, Christians aren't willing to give up their comfort zone, there is an influx of Muslims and each generation has to deal with new problems. Christians have to be taught to do hermeneutics on the field so they can write their own material because there are almost no Christian bookstores in some places like Spain.
ReplyDeleteProtestant believers make up less than .02 percent of Europe and .06 percent where I live.
Sosthenes:
ReplyDeleteYour profile reads that your location is in the United States.
Do you believe Protestant believers make up less than 0.06 percent in the USA? (ss)
I live in the Eastern United States.
ReplyDeleteIf you do the math by multiplying 80 (about the average of how large the average church is) by the number of Protestant Churches and then divide the total population of your area by the result of the two numbers you multiplied then we can come up with different numbers for our county than other statistics have. You at least have the number of people going to church. When you do all of the math for other areas than California then it sounds reasonable. Some of the megachurches may take extra time to figure out but the average church probably has about 80 people. And you can do different numbers but there are wrong statistics out there because people who are not Christians are being counted.
Your statistical method is interesting, and it appears you are assuming all Christians worship with an organized local congregation.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply, Sosthenes. I also see only “invited” guests can read your “Bible Studies” blog. I attempted to sign in and got the message:
“It doesn't look like you have been invited to read this blog. If you think this is a mistake, you might want to contact the blog author and request an invitation.” How does one get invited? (ss)
I just have an account with google. I don't have a blog so there really isn't anything written to invite anyone to read. I'm sorry. I prefer boards like Talkwisdom.com because message boards preceeded blogs and I'm a little "old school".
ReplyDeleteI was doing a little math and I figured that some cities have about 2 million people. 2 million divided by 80 = 25 thousand. If half of the people were Christians, you might have 14,500 Churches if there was an average of 80 people per Church.
My old town had about 50,000 or 55,000 residents and there were about thirty churches and only about 4 or 5 preached the gospel so if you divided 50,000 by 1500 you get 33.3 so I gave each church about 300 people and it didn't even come out to 46% which some people would have you believe. I admit that there may be house churches but I'm unaware of a lot of them. These figures make me want to cry as they show a desperate need as many more people might be headed for hell than we think. Going to church doesn't make us a Christian but it reveals how well some trust and depend on Jesus and what I'm seeing isn't good.
"Rarely, if at all, does Acts show us the first part of discipleship, does Acts show us the making of disciples in the context of the local church?"
"Acts 5:12-14, Acts 16:11-15, Acts 20:7-12."
Thanks, Sosthenes. As I mentioned earlier, you have an interesting statistical method. (ss)
ReplyDeleteJust checked the "Political Rectum"...oops....[that Mark...he's such a bad influence on me! ;-) ]...
ReplyDeleteI mean "Political Spectrum" blog and found this.
Here's my reply - since it would only be deleted over there anyway:
I find it a bit ironic and totally disingenuous of you to cry on your blog about "attacks" against you, when your hit piece against the "religious right" was a direct attack against all Bible believing Christian believers.
Here's a suggestion for a new motto on this blog:
"When we can't compete, we just delete!"
July 31, 2008 5:28 PM
GM - I finished the "latest felony" comment at the message board.
ReplyDeleteIt's sure to make you whine even more...
Point and match.
ReplyDeleteThis oughta be good for another sixty or so hits, hostess.
So true, Carlotta. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is offensive - to those who are perishing. The TRUTH hurts, they can't stand hearing it, and so they delete any challenges to their oblivious spiritual mindset.
ReplyDeleteCarlotta, what you wrote here is quite profound:
That "evangelize" argument was a very weak excuse. Because in some aspects, EVERYONE is evangelizing! It's just some are using different "gospels" that they're trying to convince people of!
I think that the idea that "everyone is evangelizing" should be used as evidence against the secular humanistic propaganda tools that are being used in our public schools today.
Just read a flyer from ADF. It discusses how Christians are being threatened with jail for handing out Bibles, sharing Scripture at gay pride parades, praying in public. County councils are now being threatened with lawsuits under the guise of the ole' "separation of church and state" crap when they traditionally start their meetings with prayer.
The ACLU targets Christians ALL THE TIME. In a case in Oconee County, South Carolina, the ACLU board member there said this:
"[P]rayers should not be allowed. Especially prayers to Jesus...[I]f they continue to break the law, I want to say, the handcuffs are going to come."
Can you believe that??? Threatened with JAIL FOR SAYING A PRAYER TO JESUS!
Unfortunately, that county council gave in to the ACLU'S demands and abolished their long-standing tradition.
I know that I am drifting off of topic here, but this Marriage Protection legislation - Prop. 8 - is on my mind this morning.
As Christian followers of Jesus Christ and His Word, the Bible, if we do not do all that we can to get it passed, then preaching the gospel of Christ will eventually become breaking the "law" and homosexual intolerance towards Christians will get us thrown into jail. I see it coming down the pike like a train wreck...
Thanks for all that you are doing to promote Biblical marriage at your blog, Carlotta. We need to keep speaking the truth and warn other Christians who may mistakenly think, "gays marrying can't hurt me or my marriage and family." The uninformed think like that all the time. We need to show them the reality of the situation and the dire need to pass Prop. 8!
God bless you!
