I found several really good links over at Sister Toldjah's blogspot. One, called Macsmind, shares the obviously growing speculation that Foley was set up by a Democratic group called "CREW."
Excerpt from Macsmind:
" It’s also interesting to note that for the chat transcripts to be available for us to read they had to have been purposely logged, or in the case of text messages, saved. Again, ordinarily this is done in criminal investigations to obtain and preserve evidence. However, it’s not something one would necessarily do otherwise. Just from my observation reading one of the chats from one of the pages indicates responses that “knowledgable, graphic and leading. In other words, not the “normal responses of someone who is being approached”. This is the kind of tactic we used in law enforcement when you are trying to corral these kinds of people.
So the point-blank question I have is was at some point the teen in the more graphic posted chats “coached” by someone? If so, by whom?
Again, while I do not condone his behavior - as there is no defense for it, something just doesn’t seem right about all this. Make no mistake, entrapped or not Foley should be prosecuted for his actions especially in light of his end of the conversation, and in light of his position. Yet it does seem that there is much, much more here than meets the eye to this story and much more to come to light."

ReplyDeleteHow The Foley Story Broke
ReplyDeleteAn interesting article, but it doesn’t exactly reveal how the story broke. Was it done for political purposes? Gee, I dunno…how many times have we had Orange Alerts in thepast five years, and how do they manage to happen near election time?
ReplyDeleteIt's even more interesting to hear how the Foley story is breaking. In the past 24 hours it's been reported that Foley has checked himself in for treatment, citing 'alcoholism'. (Does this mean he was drunk when he sent those emails? And if he was, shouldn't we reexamine what else he might have composed while drunk?)
This morning, Foley said that he was sexually molested by a clergyman when he was a teenager. He is Roman Catholic, so this is possible. Does anyone know what his voting record is on legislating against such abuses by the Church?
Whatever it may be, the evidence is clear: abusive Fathers create abusive children.
Also today, Speaker Hastert has rebuffed any hints that he too should step down. Fair enough, since there's no conclusive evidence of a deliberate cover-up. But people believe what they want to believe, and many will continue to ask questions and nurse their suspicions, and I'll bet this whole affair will hang over Hastert's head even if the Republicans retain control of the House.
I agree there’s much more than meets the eye to all this. But it remains that Foley the pious hypocrite is now Foley the disgraced hypocrite. As the Bible tells you, and certainly should have told him, “…be sure your sin will find you out” (Num 32:23).
Have a good day.
Ha! This is quite a comprehensive blogpost that gives us a lot more insight into the Foley Scandal Foley Scandal, Part One Billion.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Shoulda known that David Corn would somehow be involved. That guy rates as an "evil idiot" in my book...

ReplyDeleteOkay, hostess, I did a search for mention of CREW in the Foley scandal. I found this on AMERICAblog, dated 05 October…but I think you’re not going to like it.
CREW DEMANDS DOJ I.G. INVESTIGATE FBI COVER-UP ON INACTION ON FOLEY EMAILS SENT BY CREW
FBI Lied to Reporters
Washington, DC – Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) wrote to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General’s (I.G.) office today to ask for an investigation into why the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has fabricated and disseminated a cover-up story as to why it never investigated the Foley emails sent to it by CREW.
CBS News has reported that according to the FBI when CREW gave the Bureau the original set of emails from Rep. Mark Foley to a former House page, they were “heavily redacted.” The FBI is also claiming that it came back to CREW and asked for more information so that it could follow up, but that CREW refused to provide anything further. Reporters from several other news organizations have repeated this allegation. The FBI is lying.
On Monday, October 2, CREW sent a letter to the DOJ I.G.’s office, attaching exact copies of the emails CREW had sent to the FBI on July 21, 2006. Both the former page’s name and the person to whom the page forwarded Rep. Foley’s emails were clearly visible. Moreover, after CREW sent the emails to the FBI, CREW’s only subsequent contact with the Bureau was one telephone call from the special agent to whom CREW had sent the material confirming that the emails were from Rep. Foley. CREW had no further contact with the FBI.
In contrast with this new explanation for failing to investigate the Foley matter, The Washington Post has reported that an unnamed FBI official stated that the Bureau decided not to investigate after concluding that the emails “did not rise to the level of criminal activity.”
Melanie Sloan, CREW’s executive director said today, “the FBI cannot have it both ways; either it failed to investigate the Foley emails because they did not rise to a level of criminal activity or because it did not have adequate information to do so. Pick one.
“Attorney General Gonzales has told the public repeatedly that the investigation and prosecution of those who sexually exploit children is a top priority. We are outraged that the FBI failed to investigate Rep. Foley and is now blaming others for its inaction.
“It is time for all of those who had knowledge about Rep. Foley’s conduct to step up and take responsibility for leaving a sexual predator on the loose.”
CREW’s letters and Rep. Foley’s e-mails are available at www.citizensforethics.org.
I love politicians who run on a platform of “morality”; it implies that they have nothing else to campaign on, and when they fall (and they always do), the resulting crash can be heard for years…sometimes for generations.
I invite you to support your “set-up” speculation…if you can. Come out swingin’!
This is a good article about liberals framing the Foley debate in their favor!
ReplyDeleteOkay, now tell me how the Republicans didn't frame the Monica Lewinsky scandal in their favor.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly, tell me how they can frame this one to their credit.
