Today marks the 34th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision that led to legalized infanticide in the wombs of would-be mothers. No matter what "side" a living person falls on in this issue, the one thing they can't deny is the reality of this phrase:
Choose life! Your mother did!
I will be back later this evening to post some interesting contrasts on this issue that I have observed over the past few days. If anyone wishes to post his/her opinion(s) on this issue, please do so. It is one of the most volatile issues of our time. Debate often get heated and nasty, but please try to keep a measure of civility. We are debating an issue, not attacking people for their beliefs and decisions. I know. It is very difficult to keep on the issue at hand without getting emotional about it. However, I truly believe that we can temper that emotion with hard facts and evidence in support of the pro-life side.
For now, here are links to my previous blogposts on the horrific holocaust... that is... abortion:

WHERE IS THE CHURCH? A few years ago I was ministering at an atheist gathering in Washington, D.C. During this meeting, I heard a few words spoken from the platform that I cannot forget. The atheist told the hundreds gathered, "The church is a sleeping giant!" This statement is certainly true, but sad. When the church is silent, sin is celebrated openly and publically. Awake, arise, and obey the Lord!

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
by Judge Roy Moore
America the Beautiful, or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims' pride; I'm glad they'll never see.
Babies piled in dumpsters, Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty, your house is on the sand.
Our children wander aimlessly poisoned by cocaine,
Choosing to indulge their lusts, When God has said abstain.
From sea to shining sea, our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God's love
And a need to always pray.
So many worldly preachers tell lies about our Rock,
Saying God is going broke so they can fleece the flock.
We've kept God in our temples, How callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool, And Heaven is His throne.
We've voted in a government that's rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges
Who throw reason out the door,
Too soft to place a killer in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
Before he leaves the womb.
You think that God's not angry, That our land's a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
Before His judgment comes?
How are we to face our God, From Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do, But stem this evil tide?
If we who are His children, will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face and mend our evil way;
Then God will hear from Heaven
And forgive us of our sins,
He'll heal our sickly land and those who live within.
But, America the Beautiful, If you don't then you will see,
A sad but Holy God withdraw His hand from Thee.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV
We need Christian Cultural Warriors like never before in the history of America...are you willing to stand up for the truth??
I pray wholeheartedly that you will!
I've never really understood why abortion is such a controversy.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't encourage my wife to get an abortion as I think it would hurt us too much as we really want kids.
Having said that I don't really see a problem with having an abortion in the first few weeks of conception as there is no 'baby' as such, just a bunch of cells that have the potential to grow into a human being.
Is there a biblical justification for the whole idea that life begins at conception? Traditional Judaisim believes that life begins when the baby draws it's first breath?

ReplyDeleteAmen. I do think that we absolutely must stand against the acts of abortion themselves, but also we need to challange the root cause which is the prevelant notions that we are autonomous beings and have the right to pick and choose how we will live our lives and do with our lives what we want. It is this that must be overturned, if it is not then when individuals hear us say "Abortion is wrong and should be outlawed." all they hear is "Christians want to force me to live their way."
I can't seem to get my blogger acct. to work today. Hope this comment and link comes through.
ReplyDeleteI found this excellent post over at The Evangelical Outpost.
I wanted to blog about three things on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, but circumstances lately have prevented me from doing so.
But just the mention of each should stir the conscience.
The other day on "Hannity's America" there was a 3-D picture of twins in the womb. I'm not sure of the ages of the babies in the womb, but one person being interviewed said that brain activity starts very early in the pregnancy.
Contrast that with a CA women's group who got together to "celebrate" the anniversary of R v. W. How awful it is to imagine them celebrating the destruction (if the mother would have chosen abortion) of those beautiful unborn twins!
The other topic I wanted to discuss was about an article in the NY Times magazine, where author Emily Bazelon asks, "Is There a Post-Abortion Syndrome?" Of course, being the liberal left loonie that she obviously is, she pooh-poohs the idea. Well now, guess she didn't interview the thousands and thousands of women who have gone through with an abortion and regretted it every moment since...
Contrasts. They make the PROPER choice in such matters crystal clear!
Here's another great thread over at LaShawn Barber's blog

These two Bible verses tell us when life begins...
Isa 49:5 And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb [to be] his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.
Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, [and] I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Great point! Greg Koukl sent out an email that mentioned a film? or book whose title is, "How to make abortion unthinkable." It sounds very similar to your reasoning that people need to be brought to the place where:
"Abortion is wrong and should be outlawed."
Hmm...I read the verses and in both cases they were referring to a specific prophet. It may be that it is a bit of a stretch to consider that this refers to all.
ReplyDeleteI would have thought that Judaic teachings would guide on this?
I'm not trying to be controversial btw. ;)

ReplyDeletethe swine will eat your pearls and crap them out on you. I for one, will no longer continue to toss these pigs another pearl.
Your right ebsfwan, God has no problem with aborting a few week old glob of cells. Remember that logic in hell eh?
This Chuck Norris article is awesome, too. Be sure to go to the link, The aftermath of thirty years of legalized abortion.
ReplyDeleteSome very important excerpts:
What do we know now about the impact of abortion that we did not know when it was legalized in 1973?
We did not know that the number of abortions performed nationally would skyrocket.
The number of reported abortions in the U.S. more than doubled in the first two decades after legalization, reaching more than one million each year.1
We did not know that promises of less child abuse and fewer out-of-wedlock births were false.
After legalization, the reported number of child abuse cases quadrupled and the number of births to unmarried women more than tripled.2
We did not know about the prevalence of repeat abortions.
In 1999, 45 percent of women who had abortions in the U.S. had at least one previous abortion.3
We did not know that the vast majority of abortions would be for reasons other than rape, incest and the life of the mother, or that most would be among single women.
These “hard case” categories represent approximately 1 percent of all U.S. abortions. Two-thirds of all abortions are among never-married women.4
We did not know that abortion advocates would knowingly exaggerate the number of illegal abortion deaths prior to 1973 in order to boost their political case for repealing abortion prohibitions.
You’ve probably heard that tens of thousand of American women died in illegal abortions before 1973, the year that abortion was legalized in all 50 states. Bernard Nathanson, an early leader in the abortion rights movement and an abortionist for many years, tells a different story in this excerpt from his book, Aborting America: “How many deaths were we talking about when abortion was illegal? In N.A.R.A.L. (The National Abortion Rights Action League) we generally emphasized the drama of the individual case, not the mass statistics, but when we spoke of the latter it was always ‘5,000 to 10,000 deaths a year.’ I confess that I knew the figures were totally false, and I suppose the others did too if they stopped to think of it. But in the ‘morality’ of our revolution, it was a useful figure, widely accepted, so why go out of our way to correct it with honest statistics.” 5
Nathanson’s admission of purposefully padding the abortion death numbers is confirmed by fellow early abortion advocate Lucinda Cisler, writing before legalization in 1973: “Another statistic that is bandied about for all the right reasons – but with much unwarranted confidence – is the figure of 10,000 U.S. abortion deaths per year. A study made in the 1930’s, before the development of antibiotics made even illegal abortion less deadly than it used to be, came up with this number of 10,000 deaths; but it is no longer anywhere near the truth and has no place in any serious discussion about abortion. The most accurate estimates are that 500-1,000 deaths occur each year because of septic abortions, and this range takes false reporting strongly into account.”6
We did not know the physical and mental health risks associated with abortion.
Women face a number of possible physical complications including hemorrhage requiring transfusion, perforation of the uterus, cardiac arrest, major unintended surgery, infection resulting in hospitalization, convulsions, undiagnosed ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, cervical laceration, uterine rupture, and death.7
All women, especially young teenagers, are at risk for damage to their cervix during an abortion, which can lead to complications with later pregnancies.8
A Finnish study of suicide after pregnancy found that “the suicide rate after an abortion was three times the general suicide rate and six times that associated with birth.”9
Women who ended their first pregnancy by abortion are five times more likely to report subsequent substance abuse than women who carried the pregnancy to term, and four times more likely to report substance abuse compared to those whose first pregnancy ended naturally.10

good stuff Christine! Much of those findings were also highlighted in the book The Marketing of Evil. A must read for any college bound kid these days.
ReplyDeleteGet a grip Mark. I haven't been rude or abusive. I'm just asking questions.
ReplyDeleteYou are very quick to condemn people to hell. You are a great role model.
That is not condeming you to Hell ebsfwan. That is however, the thinking that leads to Hell.
ReplyDeleteI'm just asking questions
Utter bullshit! You're not seeking any truth or God. You could read scripture all day long, you could take a class in seminary, and you would still be lost. Why? Because only a man living in the love of darkness and human, not devine, revelation would believe the utter Satanic lie that God is ok with killing the unborn.
You are a great role model.
I am not your role model ebsfwan. Christ should be, and Christ would warn you of your Hell derived thinking as well. You can take your bad christian crap to the ends of the earth. It will hold no water before God.
Ebsfwan, you said, "I wouldn't encourage my wife to get an abortion as I think it would hurt us too much as we really want kids."
ReplyDeleteGod has given both you and your wife a conscience. Your conscience tells you that it would "hurt [you both] too much as [you both] really want kids.
Now, apply that to God...
How abortion must hurt the heart of God!!
That alone is reason to oppose it!
As Bob stated in this thread, "Abortion is wrong and should be outlawed."
I think God would agree...
"I wouldn't encourage my wife to get an abortion as I think it would hurt us too much as we really want kids."
ReplyDeleteMay also point out the utter selfishness of ebsfwan's statement..'it would hurt us too much as we really want kids'. It's all about ebsfwan's wants! and nothing else. See how the unborn is nothing but a pleasure if wanted, but a pile a cells if not wanted? Shame on you!
