As 2010 Winds Down

As another year quickly comes to a close, I find myself thinking about a variety of thoughts. In a reminiscent way, I have been thinking about many of the events (the good, the bad, and the ugly) that occurred during 2010. I have either written about many of them, or linked to blogs that have discussed these events. Some readers have enjoyed what I have written (and linked to), while others stated that they did not like what I chose to write about this past year. So be it!

Some readers prefer that I write ONLY about Jesus and the Bible and not so much about Obama and the gangster government he created which is currently wreaking havoc upon the American people.

I am of the opinion that it is very important for Christians to be engaged in whatever is happening - politically, socially, morally, and intellectually in our nation and in the world. It is through these events that we can be alert to the spiritual battle that is going on and informed about how close we are getting to the end times. I have tried to live up to the descriptive reason that I put at the top of my blog when I decided to start writing online several years ago:

Talk Wisdom's goal is to defend the tenets and values of Biblical Christian faith. We defend our Constitutional Republic and Charters of Freedom, especially when speaking out against destructive social and political issues. As followers of our Savior and Lord, we should boldly stand up for Jesus Christ in our present circumstances. He is our Savior, Lord, and King, and His love needs to be shed abroad in our hearts and in our world - now.

Over the years, I have come across comments from skeptics who pompously claim that when the Bible tells us that Jesus "is coming quickly" - it's a lie. However, what these nonbelievers do not realize is that the term "quickly" can mean "suddenly." Therefore, Christians in every generation need to be prepared for His return. When he does return, it will be a sudden event.

I think that it is a very good thing that Jesus' return will be sudden. If we all knew when Jesus was coming back for his church, what habits might we be tempted to change?

We are told to wait, watch and work until the Lord takes us into His Kingdom. Which of these three might suffer if we knew for sure exactly when Jesus would return? You guessed it - our work for the sake of the Kingdom would suffer.

Speaking of working for the sake of the Kingdom, Sarah Palin discusses her faith in her new book. As I finished reading "From The Heart," I wondered whether or not she would run for the Republican nomination for president in 2012.

The more I get to know her through her books, her T.V. show - Sarah Palin's Alaska - and her commentaries both at the Fox News Channel and on Facebook, the more obvious it appears to me that her wonderful and positive Christian influence on the world of politics as well as her dedication to the American people and the ideals instilled by our Founders for our Constitutional Republic would be better served if she continued doing exactly what she has been doing over the past two years.

Don't get me wrong - if she ran for president I would definitely support her!

However, think about all of the powerful influence that she has had on everything from criticizing (and rightly so!) the Obama administration's terrible policies to helping to get a Republican majority back in the House of Representatives. Look at how successful she was in backing the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party candidates and helping many of them to get elected! Look at the success she has demonstrated in raising five wonderful children! Look at the success she enjoyed showing the public the beauty of her home state and the adventures that her family has enjoyed living there!

Recently, William Kristol (editor of the Weekly Standard and Fox News Contributor) went on the record to state his opinion that Sarah Palin will not run for president in 2012. Could he be correct about that? Only time will tell.

I do know this. Sarah Palin is not the type of person who would run for office for fame, fortune or glory. How do I know this? Because she believes that all the glory belongs to the Lord! She would sincerely do it to serve the American people - only if she felt that they (and most of all - God) are calling her to serve in this manner. That is the difference between someone who is being an obedient servant of God for the Kingdom, rather than an elitist who thinks he (like Obama), or she should be crowned "king or queen" and have the minions serve him/her.

This is one of the greatest differences between Obama and Palin. Palin is a genuine Christian who desires to serve the Lord, care for her family, and if necessary, serve the nation. But she will base her decision on whether or not the Holy Spirit's guiding leads her in that direction. She will rely on the calling that God would give her at this time in history to determine His will for her life.

Obama has revealed himself as being a fake type of Christian who uses the religion whenever he is trying to get people to follow him or vote for him and his ill-begotten legislation. His policies have been an absolute disaster! Hopefully, the incoming House Republicans can reverse most of the damage.

Whatever Sarah Palin decides to do with her future, America can be very proud of this "Mama Grizzly" woman who represents the REAL women in America. She is GENUINE - not ANYTHING LIKE the phony leftist women who parade around as self-described "feminists" who care more about abortion rights than anything else in life. The liberalism of the leftist elite females won't allow them to recognize that they should "choose life - your mother did." Instead, they will support any and all organizations that would snuff out the lives of unborn children and call it a "normal" endeavor. What sick-in-the-mind type of logic is that? Abortion KILLS BABIES IN THE WOMB! That is the sad, disgusting, and evil truth of the matter. It is time to start offending these "femi-Nazis" for the sakes of all of the defenseless unborn boys and girls that they think matter less than the dumb slogan - "a woman's right to choose." We must ask, "choose what?" Death for their unborn child?

Women like that - including most of the ones who host that awful show - "The View" - hate Sarah because she is normal and they are not. Their most cherished liberal beliefs are exposed as the sins that they truly are by conservative Christian women like Sarah Palin. And they hate and despise her for that!

The Bible has a lot to say about "deeds being evil."

Jhn 3:19 "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Ezekiel even goes so far as to say that such people will secretly "loathe themselves":

Eze 36:31 "Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and your abominations.

It is because of men/women "loving darkness rather than light" that makes them feel shameful for their "evil ways and deeds that were not good." What could be more evil and shameful than killing an innocent human being in the womb?

The truth is that women who have had abortions often feel terrible and unrelenting guilt for their entire lives. It is not a quick "solution" to their pregnancy dilemma. However, there is forgiveness for such a sin at the foot of the cross of Jesus!

It is my prayer that God will keep His loving arms of protection over our nation as we head into a new year. Without Jesus, we are truly lost. He is the way, the truth and the life - no one comes to the Father but by him! It is my sincere and heartfelt prayer, dear reader, that no matter where you came from or have been this year (or, for that matter, in the next), that you will come to the realization that you need the Savior! Choose you, this day, whom you will serve! I pray that you will choose to know the love, grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Sarah Palin quit her job--quit her job--as governor of Alaska after less than two years at it. The cause was the afterglow of being in the national spotlight as candidate for Vice-President, and the shadow of certain improprieties at home. Between them, this woman has decided she's better as a political pundit than as a real politician. She gets many of the benefits without any of the responsibilities.
I don't need to watch The View to know what a poser Sarah Palin is. All I need to do is watch the woman herself. If she were the sort of conservative Christian woman you like to think she is, Bristol and Levi Johnson would have had a traditional shotgun wedding. As it is, Bristol is another statistic--a celebrity statistic, yes, but still just another single mom.

Abortion should always be a last resort. But I still support it. When I was a child, it was illegal, and often both the woman and infant died. If the woman survived, it was sometimes worse, such as becoming sterile through infections. Would you like to go back to that?
Who's going to raise, feed, and educate those kids? The people in the “Quiverfull” movement? You? You don't trust the government to do it, the churches won't do it, and you can't do it. So what's your plan—pump out babies in belief that the Lord will provide?
Is it babies you care about, or just American and/or “Christian” babies? Where was this 'sanctity of human life' talk when we were bombing Baghdad?

Most skeptics do not claim that “Behold, I come quickly” is a lie; only that 1900+ years is not “quickly” by human standards. When you've got eternity to play with, the word has no meaning. In any case, it won't be that suddenly—you have 'signs and wonders' to tell you to get ready. Many generations have seen these signs, but Jesus remains a no-show.

Will the Republicans disengage themselves from both TEA Partiers and Birfers? Can they? Maybe 2011 will tell us.
It's gonna be interesting times.

I agree with this blog politically, but see Sarah Palin completely differently. The people of Alaska put their trust in her by voting for her, assuming she would do the job she was elected to, and finish her term. She quit! I've read all the excuses for it, and I just don't buy it.

Christinewjc said...

Well, some people choose not to believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead - even though it is a fact from history.

If either of you decide to read her two books, you might find out the truth of the matter rather than relying on the biased news reports out there.

Anonymous said...

Wow! It is despicable to accuse a fellow believer of not believing in the Resurrection just because they don't agree with Sarah Palin!

I have read every word of Palin'e excuses about quitting and I still don't buy it. That is my opinion which i am entitled to. Your comment that I am relying on the admittedly biased media is a false accusation. I'm going by what Palin herself said.

If you are going to bear false witness against your commenters why do you even allow comments?

Christinewjc said...

Oh gosh anonymous - take a chill pill will ya?

Where did I accuse YOU of not believing in the resurrection of Christ? Don't you understand the use of an analogy in a written conversation?

Look - you can believe whatever you want about Sarah Palin. I just happen to believe you are wrong about her.

That's my opinion and I am entitled to it.

So why did you get on anonymous' case and mine when we expressed our opinions? Is this another example of special pleading?

Note to John:

Clean up your comment or it won't get published here.

Christinewjc said...

Heh heh heh! What a riot! The severe animosity being spewed against Sarah Palin by several commentators here (John's was too vulgar to publish) just proves my point.

Obama (Mr. Selfish extraordinaire)has gotten a pass for all of his terrible policies and miss-steps by all of you slobbering-love-affair ObamaBorgBots, but only hatred is given against Sarah Palin and her family because you choose to deem her leaving the governorship for selfish reasons. What a bunch of hypocrites you guys are! Do you even see how silly you all sound?

And GMpilot, you have a dumb habit of sidestepping the REAL issue (abortion is the murder of babies) by using your own kind of excuses to allow the murder of children in he womb in order to uphold your bombastic accusations against God and his followers. What a sad and pathetic fellow you really are.

Eternity Matters - Pro-Life Responses: Easier Than You Think

GMpilot said...

Oh, I see...I'm an ObamaborgBot, but you're not a Palin fangirl. Two years ago the woman couldn't even name what publications she reads, and now she's an authority on everything from terrorism to the environment.
So then, why did she leave the governorship? For patriotic reasons? If she'd finished her term I'd respect her more, but it seems she has no staying power. Instead, she looks like a crass opportunist who is using her high profile to raise herself (but not necessarily Alaska) even higher.
She's like the Mississippi at its source—a yard wide and an inch deep.
You say she is not the REAL issue here, but you certainly fried enough electrons writing about her!

Now, about your link: it made me pause.
The arguments are good; I'm not sure I could refute them.
But I'm still not certain that you feel that way about babies born elsewhere. I still don't believe you had any thoughts of how precious life is when we were bombing Baghdad.

If Eternity Matters' comments are agreed on by most Christians, there'd be little I could say, but even they acknowledge that all believers don't share that view (and imply that those who don't are not really believers at all).

As someone over at your other site once told me, “Hey...I'm only human. And I'm entitled to my own opinions.”

Christine;
I love this post of yours. Sarah Palin is a quality woman and if she would run against the likes of B.H. Obama, not a problem supporting her. I'm hoping though that the real conservatives can find someone that will represent them (us). We have to have a REAL president; an honorable one.
It's written; "These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
How much more innocent can an unborn child be? You are absolutely correct in that many women that have had abortions feel immense regret. (I was married to one)
Personally, I don't Mrs. Palin should run for president. I don't think she has any chance of winning, though if she's the choice as opposed to any liberal, I have to support her. Jeez Christine, we need a strong military, conservative, America loving man to head this nation into recovery. I have more to say but I'm tired. I see the usual weasels commenting and if it's okay, I'll be back tomorrow to speak my mind.
Oh, and if for some reason I don't get back in the next couple of days, I sincerely wish you and your family a safe and prosperous New Year.

Hey Christine;
When I read the comments by GMpilot, and your responses (very good ones I might add), and how he continues to 'stiffen his neck' I call to mind the scripture ... "speak not in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of thy words".
I know, I know, next I'll be accused of calling him a fool... jeez.
Sarah Palin left the governorship to run for vice-president, plain and simple. I have yet to figure out what's wrong with that. I notice that no one mentions that Obama served less than 4 years in the U.S. Senate ... it's a 6 year term.

Christinewjc said...

Steve,

Amen to both of your comments!

After reading your reminder about what the Bible has to say about "the ears of a fool" I did a quick search on the quote:

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Some comments at the site were claiming that Mark Twain or Abraham Lincoln coined the phrase. But one person acknowledged that it probably originated in the book of Proverbs!

Peter Lewerin has suggested Proverbs 17:28 as an early source of the line: "Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."

Then, we have these verses:

Pro 26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him.

Pro 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.

What do they all have in common? I think that it is the need for discernment.

GMpilot has been battling against me and my faith for several years now. At first, I responded to his ramblings in the hope that he might open his ears to "hear what the Spirit says to the churches." But when I realized that he was just here to mock, ridicule, disparage and angrily rail against believers in Christ, I decided that I would still answer when I thought it might be beneficial to others who may come along and read what was being said.

Good point about Obama not finishing his term in the Senate. In fact, he was rarely there during the years of campaigning and didn't cast many votes in the year before. But of course, the "Won" gets a pass on that fact as well as many other negative facts surrounding this would-be socialist dictator.

The wisdom of God's Word is awesome! I couldn't live my life without God's Living Word - Jesus Christ, or His written Word - the Bible!

Good morning Christine!
Well, here we are, the last day of 2010; it's been a delightful year communicating with my blogger friends.
A few ups and some downs ... but isn't that the way it's supposed to be?
The scripture I mentioned is Pro. 23:9. I'm somewhat old fashioned as I've read only the KJV since 1972.
In my humble opinion, the book of Proverbs is one of the most important books (of course all are) to build one's character, if attention is paid to the writings there of. Many years ago I was reading "The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; to know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding ..." At that point it hit me ... "The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: ARE to know wisdom and instruction ..." For the next 10 years I read 5 chapters of Proverbs every day, beside my regular bible reading. I know how that sounds but it's quite true.
Anyway, you and your tender heart towards God have been a tremendous blessing to me, and I'm honored to have your friendship.
Blessings for you and your family for the New Year.

Well Steve, I'll tell you what's wrong with that. It's not plain and simple...it's just not true. She quit her role as governor on July 3, 2009. That would be AFTER she ran for VP, and thankfully lost!

What an ignorant statement...but a nice try at rewriting history.

I sure hope this comment isn't too vulgar!!

Hi Christine,

Just got back from vacation. Hope you had a good Christmas. As for John, GM, and any others...

I'm sure that I've written this before, but I'll try again since I know that liberals find it difficult to process information that conflicts with their world view. Alaska law allows for the citizens to make allegations of ethics violations with little to no substantiation. Considering the number of politicians on both sides of the aisle that were ticked off when she won the governer's race, the investigating office was flooded with a rash of claims. Little to no merit was found to any of them, but the constant tide made it difficult to impossible to do the job that she was elected to do. Rather than continue to cost the people of Alaska money for a job that she could not fully perform, she resigned. A sad event, but with considerably more honor than politicians like Obama, McCain, and countless others who continue to remain on the public payroll while doing little more than campaigning.

stevex09 said...

My humble apologies for the timing of my "ignorant statement" John.
I will readily admit my error. Forgive me.
You're slightly mistaken as well; she announced on July 3, 2009 that she would step down.
This is Christine's blog but if I may, your comment isn't vulgar ... it's your attitude.

Hi GM,

" I still don't believe you had any thoughts of how precious life is when we were bombing Baghdad."

I know that your default position is to either blame Christians or blame no one at all, but try to put together a logical chain of accountability.

The tragic loss of innocent life in Baghdad occurred for one reason and one reason only: The ruling regime under Saddam Hussein failed consistently to abide by the agreements he had signed to maintain the peace. There was absolutely no snap judgment involved. He had not abided by these agreements for years and it was well known. He had no reason to believe that force was not coming. The military build up around his country took place over several weeks, and at no point during that time did he reverse course and abide by his agreements. Thanks to years of dealing with the spineless Clinton regime, he felt that hiding behind a wall of innocents would shield him from major reprisals. He was wrong. It was a horrible event, but nowhere near as horrible as the liberal cowardice that allowed him to maintain such posturing for nearly a decade. One of the greatest horrors of tyranny is that it never seems to die alone. It revels in taking innocents with it. That is the nature of evil.

The tragedy of this collateral damage, however, is in no way morally equivalent to the callous murder of innocent unborn children except perhaps that both stem from a form of selfishness. Dictators feel that the entire nation should take the consequences of their wrong actions. And liberals argue that an innocent child should be murdered for their inability to control their own selfish impulses. Despite their claim to stand up for the helpless, they wantonly kill the most helpless of all to maintain a life of as little moral responsibility as possible, a lifestyle that demands everything as right and accepts no obligation. Your judgment on how little others care for foriegn children is as hollow as it is pathetic.

Sarah Palin attracts lawsuits and quit her job which is polarizing and I think one of the reasons she stepped down is Alaska couldn't afford to defend her in State government and she became polarizing. Can you really depend upon her in time of crisis or war knowing that she might just quit? They are spending more time searching for her emails than she spent time in office so how can you get your job done when you have to spend time on these requests?

Wikileaks revealed that when it comes to the Bill of Rights or the Constitution, some of these leaders are pseudo-Christian or just plain hypocrites with one set of rules for the public and another set of rules for private (secret). What happened to loving their enemies behind closed doors in public or secret policy?

Sarah Palin could win the Primary but I don't think she could win the election because the Republican Party is becoming smaller and the ones who are influencing everyone are viewed by everyone as the crazies. If I go to the polls, there will be several Democrats trying to talk to me at the polls while it would be unusual if one or two Republicans showed up that weren't already running for office.

Republicans aren't making the local news here and they often flip flop with the Democrats (Don't ask don't tell) to get any kind of legislation passed so what good is it voting for them especially when the Republican Party ignores their own voters?

"I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful, and I think she's very happy in Alaska. And I hope she'll stay there."-Barbara Bush

Sosthenes,

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding your last comment train.

"Sarah Palin attracts lawsuits"

Which may or may not be true and, if true, may or may not indicate a problem with Sarah Palin. Lots of groups with access to lawyers use lawsuits as a form of intimidation and obstruction (e.g., ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton). The fact that someone is constantly being attacked is just as much a comment on her enemies as it is on the person, and considering the "charges" used to attack Sarah Palin, her enemies in many cases look more than a little unbalanced.

"Wikileaks revealed that when it comes to the Bill of Rights or the Constitution, some of these leaders are pseudo-Christian or just plain hypocrites"

I don't know or support "some leaders." How about a name attached to some creditable allegations?

"Sarah Palin could win the Primary but I don't think she could win the election because the Republican Party is becoming smaller"

The Republican Party may be getting smaller, though I haven't seen any facts to demonstrate the assertion. I am not a Republican myself, choosing to align myself by principle, not party. Considering that most people in the US with a preference identify as conservative, party size may become much less important than policy. That wouldn't bother me.

"If I go to the polls, there will be several Democrats trying to talk to me at the polls while it would be unusual if one or two Republicans showed up that weren't already running for office."

So you find it more impressive that more Democrats find themselves unemployed or otherwise able to spend time hanging out at poles to talk to people who theoretically have already decided?

" so what good is it voting for them especially when the Republican Party ignores their own voters?"

An excellent point! I hope that the Republicans get it.

Gary,

Sarah Pailin supported Miller for Senate in the last election. When a write in candidate like Murkowski wins then that means the other candidate is no good. If Alaskans won't support Sarah Palin or never vote for her again then why should I?

Sosthenes,

"When a write in candidate like Murkowski wins then that means the other candidate is no good."

No, it means that the write-in candidate won. Many times, write-in candidates are low-level unknowns. In this case, Murkowski was an established political figure with a family history in Alaska and a lot of connections in high places. Now, let's put aside the irregularities in the ballot and assume the votes were correctly counted. What that means is that a majority of the voters preferred Murkowski. They saw it in their best interest to elect her. The most a reasonable person can do is say that was a referrendum on the candidate Palin liked, and a very close referrendum it was. To say that indicates that the people of Alaska will never support or vote for her again is making a very large extrapolation with no evidence.

Anonymous said...

Gary,

It is very hard to unseat an incumbent and the fact that no one voted for Palin via Miller shows that Palin isn't getting the votes needed so Palin could win the primary but she wouldn't get enough votes to win an election.

Sosthenes

Unknown said...

Sosthenes,

Your argument is a complete non-sequitor, as in not only does "A not follow from B" but you haven't evenly accurately characterized "A".

Lots of people voted for Miller, so your opening is false. And there is no logical way to equate a vote for Miller with a vote for Palin. However, if you want to go strictly by rating candidates that Palin supported, my understanding is that better than 60% of the candidates that Palin supported in the previous election won.

If you don't like Palin, don't vote for her, but to claim that she can't win because Miller lost shows no intelligible logic.

Anonymous said...

Gary,

Sarah was only Governor for three years so it is possible that people had a more favorable opinion of her before she was Governor than after. They had more of an incomplete picture of her record as Governor before she was elected. You're only as good as your last record and people don't care what you did years ago. We're not talking about what she did in the previous election. We're talking about what she did in the last election and Miller lost.

There is a big difference between dog catcher and mayor. When you look at someone as a quitter then you don't give them the highest office of the land.

Sosthenes

Christinewjc said...

Sorry to butt in guys, but here goes. Gary obviously has the better argument going. Sosthenes? Not so much. Of course each of us are entitled to our own opinions about any candidate, but Sosthenes, you appear to be especially critical of Palin. Is that really necessary? I wonder - is there something else at work in your mind regarding her? Are you possibly against her because she is a woman (not accusing, just asking) and as a Christian male, perhaps you think that God does not want women holding such high positions in government?

Gary has already explained to you why she resigned. Personally, I think that was a more noble gesture than hanging on to her job (and salary) while knowing that she could not get anything done for the state with all of the frivolous lawsuits filed against her.

Sosthenes, I have quit some endeavors in my life. Does that mean that I wouldn't be fit to at least RUN for the highest office in the land?

I could be wrong, but you don't sound like the same "Sothenes" from my message board. Perhaps I missed the fact that you dislike Palin.

Anonymous said...

Christine,

I don't dislike her but even though I believe she is on our side, I don't think she has the right stuff. I just think that if you run for a particular office then you should finish out your term instead of looking for higher office. And if a person quits then they lack the resources to do their job.

Where is the exception clause in the Oaths of Enlistment and Oaths of Office to be able to quit when attacked when you are sworn to "...defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic...."?

I might be a wonderful candidate for office and I might have high ideals and I might be able to get a lot done for people but if a candidate lacks support then they can't defend themselves let alone do their job.

From hindsight, I would guess Palin looked to John McCain to escape Alaska. I think I couldn't have joined John McCain for the same reason why Dr. Dobson couldn't support John McCain. Dr. Dobson comes out of this looking wise because John McCain is gay friendly.

Sosthenes

Christinewjc said...

As Gary pointed out, Obama didn't finish his duties as senator of Illinois.

Didn't George W. Bush not complete his second term as governor of Texas to become president?

If you didn't vote for McCain, then you are partly responsible for getting Obama elected.

A LOT of Christians made the mistake of voting for Obama. They did not heed God's Word in doing so. Plus, those who didn't vote at all got us in this Communist dictatorship via Obama too. Shame on them!
