When Changing Your Mind Could Save Your Life

Today's Turning Point television presentation was the final one in a series of ten where Dr. David Jeremiah concludes with When Changing Your Mind Could Save Your Life.

It is eye opening to realize how much an immoral, fallen culture can slowly lull unsuspecting people into conforming their lives towards what would have been unthinkable in the past. Take a look at the many definitions of the term "conform" posted at Dictionary.com:

con·form   /kənˈfɔrm/ Show Spelled[kuhn-fawrm] Show IPA
verb (used without object)
1. to act in accordance or harmony; comply (usually followed by to ): to conform to rules.
2. to act in accord with the prevailing standards, attitudes, practices, etc., of society or a group: One has to conform in order to succeed in this company.
3. to be or become similar in form, nature, or character.
4. to be in harmony or accord.
5. to comply with the usages of an established church, especially the Church of England.

If we focus on the dictionary description #2, we find:

2. to act in accord with the prevailing standards, attitudes, practices, etc., of society or a group: One has to conform in order to succeed in this company

Question. What if conforming to the "prevailing standards, attitudes, practices, etc., of a company (in order to succeed)" goes against your own morals, values, and ethics? Should one (especially a Christian believer) conform in such a case?

I can still recall some vague details about an assignment I had received via a temporary employment agency back in the early 1980's. I had just completed through working a temporary two week job where I answered constantly ringing phones and tried to fit in my typing assignments during each hectic day. I was hoping that this next job would be more pleasant. Well, I didn't even last one day there. When I arrived, the men in the office were using foul language. I didn't want to hear that! They were also very sexist. I could see this through the mistreatment that the one woman I present in the office at the time was going through. The sexual innuendos flying around that office were disgusting! The one woman there looked at me and her eyes seemed to be saying, "get out while you can." When I discovered what the work would entail, (I can't remember exactly what was done there) but it was obviously immoral.

Within about 20 minutes, I could not see myself working there.  I abruptly got up from my chair and said, "I'm leaving now. I do not want to be associated with your associates." The company was named "(Something) Associates." I was not about to be conformed to their unethical ways of running a business. When I told the Kelly Girl office what I had experienced, they quickly went to work and found another assignment for me.

Another definition of the term "conformed" reads:

verb (used with object)
6. to make similar in form, nature, or character.
7. to bring into agreement, correspondence, or harmony.

This reminds me of another incident that happened after I met my husband. We both worked in the engineering dept. of a large grocery store chain back east.  I loved the nature and harmony between the employees at that office.   When we became engaged, the proper protocol within the company was for us not to continue working in the same department. I was transferred over to health and beauty aids which was located in a more industrial, dirty, and dangerous area of the city. I thought, well, I can get through this for the six months until our wedding day. It was a much further drive away from my apartment so I had to get up much earlier each day.

Long story short, my supervisor there was a nasty, verbally abusive and ugly person! I am not exaggerating when I tell you that he resembled the cartoon character face of MAD Magazine. Unfortunately, he wasn't funny...at all. Just downright NASTY. He bashed me continually for not getting enough work done. He would purposely deride me about everything.  I decided to stay two hours extra for several nights over the course of one week in order to complete more work - and he criticized me about that too! Unfortunately, instead of commending me for getting all the work done he was angry because I ended up going into the overtime pay realm.  I was supposed to ask him  for permission (which I didn't need to do at the engineering office department)  to do that and he didn't want to pay me extra for what he thought I should have been doing from 8 - 5 each day.

I can remember crying while driving home.  I tried to hold it in but ended up crying when I told my then-fiancee what I was going through.  He wanted me to quit. But I didn't. We needed the money to start our lives together and I continued on at that job.  I  became friends with many co-workers there who also knew how mean and critical Mr. Urkquart was! I wasn't going to let him change me. I wasn't going to let him "make [me] similar in form, nature, or character." In fact, I eventually became immune to his rants. I also honed my typing skills by practicing diligently and was able to reach a level where I completed documents much faster than before!

Perhaps this could be a small (and probably insignificant) example of transforming my mind?

There are several different dictionary meanings to the word, "transform." Here are the relevant ones to this discussion:

trans·form   /v. trænsˈfɔrm; n. ˈtrænsfɔrm/ Show Spelled[v. trans-fawrm; n. trans-fawrm] Show IPA
verb (used with object)
1. to change in form, appearance, or structure; metamorphose.
2. to change in condition, nature, or character; convert.

In Dr. Jeremiah's sermon, he informs us that when we become Christians, we are to transform our minds through Bible reading and through the power of the Holy Spirit!

Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what [is] that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

2Cr 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

THE most significant transformation that can happen in any one's life is through being born again in Jesus Christ! What Jesus and the Bible are telling us is:

verb (used without object)
7. to undergo a change in form, appearance, or character; become transformed.

Ultimately, such a change in one's heart, mind, soul, and spirit; because of the transforming nature given to us through the sacrificial death of our sins by Jesus Christ at the cross of Calvary (and his subsequent resurrection to life for our eternal sakes) DOES save our lives for all eternity! What could possibly be more important in this world? Answer: NOTHING!

My prayer today:

As we approach Thanksgiving Day, my heart is filled with gratitude and thanks to Jesus Christ for saving me from my sins. I am grateful for the wonderful family I have and all that God has provided for us over the course of our lives. I know that without Him, I am nothing; for He is my everything!

In Jesus' precious name I pray, Amen.

When America Would Turn Her Back on Israel

On October 23, 2011, Dr. David Jeremiah's book I Never Thought I'd See The Day: Culture at the Crossroads reached #1 on the New York Times bestsellers list under the category of "Hardcover Advice & Misc.!" Since then, each week it has stayed in the top five.

I think that the popularity of the book demonstrates what MILLIONS of people here in America have concluded:  Our nation genuinely has reached a critical juncture in the culture wars. Since the book's release, hundreds of Internet searches have led new visitors here when they type in "I Never Thought I'd See The Day," "David Jeremiah," and dozens of other combinations. There is a huge desire to learn the information contained in this book!

I haven't read the chapter "When America Would Turn Her Back On Israel," yet, but the sermon broadcast was so excellent and relevant for today that I find myself drawn towards transcribing the entire message here at Talk Wisdom!!

This Week’s Television Broadcast

When America Would Turn Her Back on Israel | Week of November 13, 2011

A most unusual promise in Scripture pertains to how one treats the nation of Israel. Those who bless Israel will be blessed while those who curse Israel will be cursed. In recent years, America's support for Israel has wavered, which could have disastrous results for our nation.

I Never Thought I'd See the Day!
ABOUT THE CURRENT TELEVISION SERIES

The world is changing rapidly. Many people are witnessing upheavals in the world’s structures and values that they never thought they would witness. Debt is skyrocketing, the Middle East is in turmoil, millions are unemployed, standards of morality are falling, and marriage and family are being completely redefined. Jesus Christ is the butt of jokes in the nation that historical honored him the most. And the Bible--the book that informed the philosophies of the founding fathers--has been shuffled further and further to the edges of meaningful cultural conversation. We are even seeing these changes in the Church. With over 40 years in ministry, Dr. David Jeremiah has witnessed many of these changes and sheds light on Western culture’s decline in his newest television series, I Never Thought I’d See the Day! He examines nine changes in our world and a biblical evaluation of each: angry atheists, profaning of Jesus Christ, redefining marriage, irrelevance of the Church, rise of militant nations, marginalization of the Bible, and more. He also provides the Bible’s strategy for standing firm on the truth when the world is searching for answers to modern crises. Tune in to Turning Point Television on Sundays from September 18 to November 20 for this enlightening series.

Here is an outline of the Scriptures used during the broadcast:

Genesis 12:3

I. God’s Providence in the Story of Israel
Psalm 33:12
Deuteronomy 7:6-8
Genesis 12:1-3

II. God’s Promise of a Land for Israel

III. God’s Punishment of the Enemies of Israel
Zechariah 2:8
Zechariah 9:8

IV. God’s Preservation of America Because of Israel

V. God’s Program for the Church and Israel
Romans 11:26-27
Jeremiah 31:35-37

VI. God’s Plan for the Peace of Israel
Psalm 122:1-9

Dr. Jeremiah does not parse any words about the fact that the Obama Administration has been, and continues to be, the most unfriendly entity towards Israel of any previous American administration in our nation's history! He also suggests that much of the economic, moral, and culture decline could be a direct result of the current administration's way of turning its back on Israel, plus the obvious mistreatment against Her current leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

[Added note from Christine: While reading the news during my lunch break from transcribing Dr. Jeremiah's sermon, I ran across this blog post:

Now The End Begins: Israel Refuses To Tell US Its Iran Intentions.

Can anyone blame them??? Obama IS NOT ISRAEL'S FRIEND!

Note this portion from the link:
Mr Panetta conveyed an urgent message from Barack Obama. The president, Mr Panetta said, wanted an unshakable guarantee that Israel would not carry out a unilateral military strike against Iran’s nuclear installations without first seeking Washington’s clearance.

The two Israelis were notably evasive in their response, according to sources both in Israel and the United States.

“They did not suggest that military action was being planned or was imminent, but neither did they give any assurances that Israel would first seek Washington’s permission, or even inform the White House in advance that a mission was underway,” one said.

Alarmed by Mr Netanyahu’s noncommittal response, Mr Obama reportedly ordered the US intelligence services to step up monitoring of Israel to glean clues of its intentions.]

Back to my original post:

It will take several days to complete the transcript version here at this blog. I highly suggest that you listen to the broadcast TODAY. It is most relevant concerning the signs of the times that we are living in these days, and it will become increasingly important to tell your family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances what you have learned from the video sermon! Again, I cannot stress enough how terrific Dr. Jeremiah's new book is for discerning how, and why, we are at such a decision-making crossroad to save our culture and nation from further disaster due to both the mistreatment of Israel and the dangerous administration that is hell-bent on destroying our nation!

See if you agree with this statement, "The nation of Israel is the key to America's survival." Hello, I am David Jeremiah and I invite you to stay tuned as I explain the statement that I just made. You are watching a very special Turning Point series called, "I Never Thought I'd See The Day: Culture at the Crossroads" where we are taking a look at unsettling development in our world. Today's message, I Never Thought I'd See The Day When America Would Turn Her Back on Israel explains how America has begun to look beyond Israel for allies in the Middle East. But She does so at Her own peril. For God has said clearly in His Word, that nations who abandon Israel will not be blessed by Him. And there are many examples in history that prove God's promise. So join me on today's Turning Point while I explain why Israel is the key to America's survival.

I believe that America's future depends in large part on one single factor: Our relationship with the tiny nation of Israel. And given the political trends in recent years, I believe that America is putting Her future at risk. We supported Israel in the 20th century when She was reformed politically in Her homeland, and if we do not return towards our previous supportive policies toward Israel, our future as a nation is in peril.

You may be wondering if my thinking is upside down; after all America is the world's greatest super-power. Israel is a sliver of land accommodating only a few million citizens. One would think that America is the key to Israel's survival, not the other way around. Given our history of vast economic and military aide packages to Israel over the years it would seem that America could use the threat of withdrawn aide to leverage Her influence over Israel and get that tiny nation to do whatever we want. surely the larger independent nation holds in Her hand the survival of a smaller independent nation. But I am saying the opposite is true: that Israel is the key to America's survival and here are the reasons why:

It is clear that America's leaders, at least in recent administrations have not been looking at Israel with spiritual or biblical eyes. Had they done so, one small verse would have guided their policy decisions. That verse is Genesis 12:3 which says, "I will bless those who bless you and I will curse him that curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

God has a perfect track record, men and women, for keeping His promises. A fact that is demonstrated by several thousand years of history. Yet in spite of God's well demonstrated trustworthiness, American leaders in recent years have rationalized and justified their way into denying Israel the free expression of Her sovereignty as a nation.

America has coddled and tolerated, and even financially supported some of Israel's neighbors who have openly declared that their goal is to drive the Jewish people from their homeland and scatter them back into their pre-1948 homes around the world; if not to exterminate them altogether.

No nation should take lightly the promises of God in Genesis 12:3. If for no other reason, then for self-preservation. And that includes America; even if American leaders don't fully understand or agree with the Judeo-Christian teachings of the Bible, matching up Genesis 12:3 with the thousands of years of history involving Israel should be convincing enough. Bless Israel, and you will be blessed. Curse Israel, and you will be cursed.

What is so special about Israel?
I. God's Providence in the Story of Israel

To answer that question we have to look briefly at the beginning of the nation of Israel. While Israel is often called "God's chosen people," it is more accurate to say that God chose a person by the name of Abraham. Rather than choosing an existing nation, God chose a man and created a nation through him and his wife Sarah. That nation became God's chosen people. Actually, the phrase "God's chosen people" doesn't occur in the Bible, the New King James Version, but there are abundant examples in Scripture to support the idea.

Psalm 33:12 - Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.

The best summary of why God chose Israel to be His own people is found back in a passage in Deuteronomy Chapter 7:

Deuteronomy 7:6-8 For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. Now the LORD did not set His eye on you or choose you because you are more in number for you are the least of all peoples; but because the LORD loves you, and He would keep the oath He swore to your fathers..."

That's why He chose you! There was nothing in Israel to cause God to embrace Her as His people. Moses spoke the words in Deuteronomy to a new generation of Israelites whose parents had been poverty-stricken slaves in Egypt for over 400 years! Not exactly the kind of resume that would make a people appealing to a God who wanted to show off His best work. Israel became the people of God for two reasons:

1. Because of a promise that God made to Abraham centuries before.

2. Because of God's faithful love in keeping His promises.

Here is the complete promise that God made to Abraham as is recorded in Genesis 12:

Genesis 12:1-3 Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family, and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I shall curse him who curses you, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

These passages contain a warning, but why such a warning? What is so important about Israel that God protects Her by promising to bless her benefactors and curse Her enemies? The answer is found in the passage that bookends the warning:

Genesis 12:2-3 And you shall be a blessing and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Through His chosen people God intended to bless the rest of the human family. He chose a Mesopotamian man named Abram and promised that he and his descendants would be a channel of that blessing. People who recognize God's promises for Israel and do whatever they can to preserve, protect, and defend Israel will likewise be preserved, protected, and defended and God will see to it.

Let me ask you, has God blessed us through Israel? He gave us His Word through the Israeli people, He gave us our Savior through the people of Israel, He gave us the code of law through Moses which is now the basis for jurisprudence of every free nation of the world. Oh yes, we have been blessed by the people of Israel, by the Jews. And people who stand in the way of Israel's prosperity will find themselves standing in the direct path of God's purposes for Israel. And history gives us the tragic story of what happens to anyone, individually or nationally who puts himself in that unenviable position - God's providence in the story of Israel.

II. God's Promise Of A Land For Israel

Part of God's promise for Abraham was a land in which he and his descendants would dwell. That land was known as Canaan when Abraham first arrived there and it became known as The Promised Land when Israel moved in following the exodus from Egypt. Not only did God promise the land of Israel from the river of Egypt to the Great River, the river Euphrates, He also promised it to Abraham's son Isaac, and Isaac's son Jacob, and He promised it to Jacob's twelve sons and all of their descendants. I have all of the Scriptures marked down in my notes.

Israel moved into this land and prospered exceedingly. She became rich and powerful; to be reckoned with under the successive reigns of Her kings, David and Solomon. But then the nation fell away. Fell away from Godly principles to the point that God stepped in and allowed the Jewish people to be conquered and dispersed throughout all the nations of the world. Israel began moving back to Her land following World War I, under the British mandate of Palestine. And then in earnest following World War II, tension developed between the returning Jews and the Arabs who were then living in the land who did not then, and haven't since taken kindly to Israel coming home. This tension came to a head when Israel's statehood was announced in 1948.

It's easy to slip into a kind of sympathetic mode towards these occupying Arabs. But the bottom line is simply this. The land belongs to God first, and God gave it to His people as an inheritance forever. That's what the Scripture says.

To get a proper perspective on this let me give you a little illustration:

You are sitting in a reserved seat at a theater production. Just before the curtain rises, you get an important call on your cell phone. So you leave your coat on your seat and return to the lobby to take your call in private. You return to find a stranger, sitting on your coat in your seat. The squatter refuses to leave and only does so after an embarrassing scene in which the ushers force him to abandon a seat for which he cannot prove ownership. You, however, have your reserved seat ticket stub so access to the seat is given back to you.

In that illustration, the theater-goer is Israel, the seat is Israel's homeland, the ticket is the Bible where legal assignment to the land is recorded. The temporary vacancy of the seat represents Israel's temporary absence from the land from AD70 to 1948. The squatter represents various groups who avail themselves of the opportunity to take the land in Israel's absence. The coat represents the historical artifacts that exist throughout the land that show that Israel's previous habitation really happened. And the usher at least in 1948 which was the League of Nations turned United Nations that said, "this is Israel's seat."

Israel is not taking land that she does not deserve. She is just occupying the land that was given to her by God. She is not doing something that she should not do; for which she should apologize or stand in defense. She is simply doing what God allowed her to do by His promise to her in the Scriptures.

The Jews were not restored to their homeland because they earned the right or turned back to God. In fact, if you know what is going on in Israel today you know that it is primarily a Zionist movement; it's not such a spiritual movement. So far they have failed as a people to embrace Jesus as their Messiah although the Bible tells us one day they will. But Israel remains to this day the "apple of God's eye." And woe to any nation today, including the United States, that tries to deny that fact for the sake of politics, preference, or popularity.

Thomas Newton was the bishop from Bristol, England from 1761-1782. He was an expert in biblical prophecy. He summarized well the economy of Israel's uniqueness. He wrote,
"the preservation of the Jews is one of the most single and elustrious acts of Divine Providence. What but a Supernatural Power could have preserved them in such a manner as no other nation upon the earth has ever been preserved. Nor is the providence of God much more remarkable in the destruction of their enemies that in their preservation, we see that the great empires which in their turns subdued and oppressed the people of God are all come to ruin. And if such has been the fatal end of the enemies that had been suppressors of the Jews, let it serve as a warning to all of us, who at any time, or upon any occassion, are raising a clamor and persecution against the Jews."

Being Salt and Light in the World

Chapter five - When Morality Would Be in Free Fall - from Dr. David Jeremiah's book I Never Thought I'd See The Day: Culture at the Crossroads shares some insight on what it means for Christians to be salt and light in the world.

Excerpt:

[Following] God's moral standards is the only way to be strength and light in the world. It is different in that we don't try to follow the law to attain righteousness in God's sight, as Israel did. Instead, through our faith in Christ we are credited with His righteousness because He kept the law perfectly in our place. We now receive the law of God written on our minds and in our hearts. As Paul wrote, we do not nullify the law as Christians; rather, we uphold it (Romans 3:31). We do not keep the law to become the people of God but to manifest our relationship with God and to be salt and light in the world.

What does it mean to be salt and light in the world? Salt is strong because it overcomes bacteria that would cause food to rot and decompose. It is unique in that it adds flavor to food and creates thirst in those who consume it. We are to do the same. As we keep God's law and manifest His character, we preserve the character of His creation; we prevent the deterioration and degeneration of human society and we add a unique flavor to it. We hope to create a thirst for God in those whose lives we touch.

The role of light is obvious - to bring truth into spiritually dark places. And what truth are we to bring? To "love the LORD your God with all your hear, with all your soul, and with all your mind," and to "love our neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37, 39). Think how different the world would be if those two summary laws, on which "hang all the Law and the Prophets" (v.40), were kept by all the human race! And think how much more powerful and effective the Church of Jesus Christ would be if Christians were not bending God's rules to satisfy themselves.

Christians who decide to adjust their moral stance to align more favorably with that of the world would do well to remember Jesus' words at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount:

Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heave; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. for I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds to righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-20).

The Pharisees' moral standard was external. They carefully tithed in great detail, even down to giving a percentage of their herbs, while at the same time neglecting "the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith" (Matthew 23:23). They kept the letter of the law but ignored the spirit of it. They kept their hands clean but failed to cleanse their hearts (Matthew 23:27). They were guilty of the same thing for which their forefathers were condemned: honoring god with their lips while their hearts were far from Him (Isaiah 29:13).

The warning to today's church is this: Going through the motions of morality is not the morality God desires. Clean hands do not make a clean heart. but the opposite is true: Moral hearts will make moral hands. If we commit to keeping the spirit of the law, the letter of the law will, by default, be kept as well. and that is precisely the message Jesus delivered on that mountainside in Galilee.

News Roundup

Dear Readers,

I have been away from blogging for about 11 days. So much has happened since then that it is difficult to choose just one topic. Therefore, I thought that I would share a news roundup this morning.

First, I would like to acknowledge Dr. David Jeremiah's new book, I Never Thought I'd See The Day - Culture At The Crossroads. It is now listed as a #1 New York Times Bestseller! I urge everyone to get this book and read it!!

Dr. Jeremiah states, "We must understand that we are in a war for the very heart and soul of civilization or the consequences will be catastrophic."

The good news is that
in "I Never Thought I'd See The Day!, Dr. Jeremiah identifies the nine major indicators of this looming disaster and then issues a strategy for turning the tide and equips us with the weapons we need for the battle ahead. Above all, he brings a message of hope that our "culture at the crossroads" can be put back on the right path.
Just as Dr. Jeremiah's The Coming Economic Armageddon book helped to biblically explain what was going on during America's (and the global) economic near-collapse, Jeremiah's new book focuses on how our nation has changed so drastically due to the destructive cultural trends that started in the 1960's and continue on to this day.

What In The World Is Going On: 10 Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford To Ignore is another must read!

Description:

The Bible has much to say about the end times. Yet it is hard to piece together all that information in a way that gives a comprehensive picture of what that time period will look like. That's why so many theories abound. And that's why Dr. David Jeremiah has written What In the World Is Going On?, a unique book that cuts through the hundreds of books and numerous theories to identify the essential 10 most important bible prophecies. There is no other prophecy book like this. You'll find it the ultimate study tool for understanding the future. And this book will also motivate readers to live a more holy life and make greater efforts in evangelism. If bible prophecy as always been a mystery to you, Dr. Jeremiah's book will help you solve the mystery.

Christians know that Bible prophecy points directly to Israel as being the focal point before, during and after the end times!

Another book that I would recommend is John MacArthur's The Truth War: Fighting for Certainty in an Age of Deception.

All of these books will give you biblically-based information and answers from the Scriptures.

Each of us only needs to watch the news and look around at all that is transpiring in the world today. Have we ever known such uncertainty, chaos, evil, and deception? Perhaps when we look back at all the wars - especially World War II and the War On Terror - we can all recognize that the battle for truth is raging.

On the back cover of John MacArthur's book, Albert Mohler writes:

"[The postmodern age] is the age of no truth, an age that has reached a point of deadly fatigue when it comes to facing the truth--a generation that no longer believes truth can be known. Dr. John MacArthur knows better, and he is armed with the courage to confront this age with a bold defense of truth.....His argument is compelling, his defense of truth is brilliant, and his concern for the church is evident on every page. The evangelical church desperately needs this book, and it arrives just in time." --R. Albert Mohler, Jr., President, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

On to the News Roundup.

If you have been a reader here since 2007, you will know that the very first objection I had against Barack Obama as a candidate for president was the fact that he was (and remains) rabidly pro-abortion. In order to remain consistent, I must choose who to vote for in the Republican primary based on his or her pro-life views. My first link it to Neil's Eternity Matters blog, where he asks the question, Did Herman Cain Lie About Planned Parenthood?. When you go to that link, you will see some concerns I recently had about Cain's position on this issue. Hopefully, Neil and others will reply to my comment.

If you read my comments at Neil's blog, then you will see that I do not trust Mitt Romney. There are many, many reasons for this. Here is an email excerpt that I recently received from Conservative Action Alerts:

In past campaigns for Governor of Massachusetts and U. S. Senator, Romney has been FOR gun control, FOR abortion, FOR socialized medicine, FOR same-sex marriage, and FOR amnesty for illegal aliens. He says, NOW, that he has changed his views on all of those issues. But can we trust Mitt Romney to support Reagan Republican principles?

The email was written regarding support for Herman Cain. Here is the entire email:

Dear Conservative Activists,

If you support Herman Cain for President, prepare to be outraged.

Crass political manipulation by Mitt Romney and his supporters in Florida threatens to undermine Herman Cain's chances of winning that critical early primary state.

It's all about the money. With his liberal fat cat Wall Street supporters, Mitt Romney has it in spades.

He raised $19 million in the last quarter.

Herman Cain raised just $2.8 million in the last quarter. But, his daily fund raising receipts were growing rapidly near the end of the quarter.

Mitt Romney has another serious problem— about 75 percent of Republican voters do not want him as the nominee of the party.

For over a year, every voter survey has shown Romney's support at between 20% and 25% of Republicans. Nothing more, nothing less.

The surveys also show that the vast majority of Mitt Romney's support comes from two groups--the moderate/liberal wing of the Republican Party, and those who say that they DON'T identify with the "tea party” movement.

Herman Cain's support comes from the heart and soul of the party—Ronald Reagan conservatives, and "tea party” Republicans.

The truth is that Mitt Romney is out of step with most Republicans. Since Mr. Romney ran for, and lost, the Republican Presidential nomination four years ago, we have witnessed the rise of the "tea party” movement. This time, Romney is running as a conservative, but that was not always so.

Most Republicans say no.

Despite the ups and downs of the other candidates, Mitt Romney has failed to rise above the level of support that he had a year ago.

When Donald Trump flirted with running for President, he shot up in the polls past Romney. When Trump dropped out, his support went to the other candidates or the undecided category— NOT to Mitt Romney.

When Michele Bachmann entered the race, she skyrocketed to first place, and she won the Iowa straw poll.

When Texas Governor Rick Perry entered the race, much of Michele Bachmann's support shifted to Perry, NOT to Romney, and Rick Perry took the lead in the polls.

Then, Rick Perry's poll numbers tumbled into the basement after two disastrous debate performances, but Romney's level of support DID NOT change. He failed to pick up any trace of Perry's former supporters.

Finally, Chris Christie and Sarah Palin both announced that they were not running for President, and their supporters, along with most of Perry's, stampeded over to the Herman Cain campaign.

Clearly, Republicans are looking for someone other than Mitt Romney to be the standard bearer of the party.

Herman Cain now leads Mitt Romney in the polls nationwide, and in four of the first five states that will be choosing delegates in January and early February, 2012.

Mitt Romney, and his advisers, recognized that their candidate's inability to go above 25 percent support was a serious vulnerability for their campaign.

Romney's campaign team knew that the one advantage that they had was money. But that wouldn't last forever if another candidate caught fire with the voters. A surge in support would eventually mean a surge in contributions.

To maintain their money advantage, they devised a strategy to shorten the amount of time available for fund raising before the voting began in the early states.

Unfortunately for Herman Cain, the plan worked.

Romney supporters in Florida succeeded in moving the date of the primary election from March 6, 2012, to January 31, 2012.

This set off a chain reaction among the other early voting states, because they were determined to maintain their influential early positions on the calendar. As a result, Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina will all select their delegates in January, before the Florida Primary takes place on January 31, 2012.

The entire early primary and caucus schedule was advanced by over a month because of the change in the Florida Primary date.

This gives Mitt Romney a significant advantage, because Herman now has 36 fewer days to raise the money necessary fund a statewide media campaign in Florida.

Florida is, by far, the largest, and most important, state in the early voting, so it is a must win for both Romney, and for Herman Cain.

Florida's population is over 18,000,000 people. It is not possible to run a statewide campaign without television and radio advertising. A media budget of $5 million, or more, will be necessary to advertise statewide for the final three weeks of the campaign.

It comes down to this. If Herman Cain wins the Florida primary, he will be well on his way to winning the nomination.

Herman Cain clearly has the momentum in Florida.

Not only did Herman trounce Romney in the recent straw poll of Republicans held at the Florida GOP convention in Orlando, he has now come out on top in two consecutive surveys done by two different polling groups. The American Research Group poll of Florida Republicans showed Herman 6 points ahead of Romney, and the NBC/Marist Poll shows Herman leading Romney by 1%.

The question is: Will Herman Cain lose because the rules were changed in the middle of the game? Will Romney's overwhelming money advantage be the deciding factor?

We don't have to let it happen. There is enough time to rally behind Herman Cain, and to help him create a winning campaign in Florida.

In consultation with experienced political pros in Florida, ones who helped elect Marco Rubio to the U. S. Senate last year, we have mapped out a strategy to help Herman Cain win the Florida primary.

A statewide media campaign must start on January 10, 2012, and run for three weeks, straight until election day on January 31st--that's less than three months away.

The email goes on to request donations for Cain's campaign. I am still waiting before I make my final decision regarding whom I will ultimately support. But the Romney money machine (and all the liberal elitist Republicans who want him as their candidate of choice) eerily reminds me of how Obama came to power.

Another reason I don't trust Romney (for the position of president) is the fact that Mormonism is not a genuine, biblical, Christian faith. If you are a secularist reading this, Romney's religion may not matter to you. So be it. But in this critical election climate where we are at war for the soul of our nation (including individual souls for Jesus Christ!), I am praying for God's grace to shine upon a true Christian conservative to become the next President of the United States!

Received an email from Brannon Howse where he stated two things:

World View Weekend: VIDEO: JOEL OSTEEN SAYS MORMONS ARE CHRISTIANS

I will include more information about why Mormons are not Christians later today or tomorrow.

Also see:

World View Weekend: THE MYTH OF BINDING AND LOOSING SATAN AND JOEL OSTEEN’S LACK OF COMMITMENT TO SCRIPTURE.

Brannon Howse has a video (I think you purchase it) which involves Exposing The Heresy of the Word of Faith & Prosperity Gospel Preachers Through Their Own Words.

So you see my friends, new and regular readers of this blog, we must be VERY CAREFUL who we support in ministry! The best advice I can give you is to MAKE SURE that any pastor, preacher, or teacher of the Bible does NOT go against what is written in the Scriptures!

One more link to share. Do you think you know what is going on at these Occupy rallies around the country? Think again!

Please see this detailed blog post from Mass Resistance about:

What the media isn't telling you about the "Occupy Boston" protest.

It is just one example of why so many Christian authors are warning us that as Christian believers, we are to watch, wait and WORK before the coming of the Lord!  Those of us who see the chaos all around us,  but may believe that resistance is futile,  would be wrong to think that way!

This is why I started this blog post with Dr. Jeremiah's important message:

Dr. Jeremiah states, "We must understand that we are in a war for the very heart and soul of civilization or the consequences will be catastrophic."

The good news is that in "I Never Thought I'd See The Day!, Dr. Jeremiah identifies the nine major indicators of this looming disaster and then issues a strategy for turning the tide and equips us with the weapons we need for the battle ahead. Above all, he brings a message of hope that our "culture at the crossroads" can be put back on the right path.

Deception, Division, and Destruction Are Satan's Favorite Tools

While reading Dr. David Jeremiah's new book I Never Thought I'd See The Day - Culture at the Crossroads, I have come to realize that the three D's - deception, division, and destruction are Satan's favorite tools in the spiritual war against those who believe in Jesus Christ.

One very obvious example is the current Occupy Wall Street uprisings. There are some people who may have thought that they were protesting for the right reasons. But the truth is, many desperate people who have been out of work for so long have been deceived (and paid) to protest. They are spewing hate, lies, intolerance, and bigotry. They are hell bent on causing deception, division and ultimately destruction. Why? The first reason is because they are being deceived.

Dr. Jeremiah:

Satan is the great deceiver. John 8:44 records Jesus' reply to a group of Jews who were resisting His message. Jesus boldly told them that they were children of their father the devil, and that they were not hearing the truth because their father's native language was lies.

Well, guess who is the main father of lies in the Occupy Wall Street staged protests? None other than George Soros. He has often been described as a mini-me of the anti Christ - and with good reason. Do a Bing search on the man and find out what evil and destruction he has wielded across the world. He is one of the top ten billionaires in the world but uses his money to manipulate others to do his bidding for evil purposes.

Dr. Jeremiah:

Revelation 12:9 refers to Satan as the one "who deceives the whole world," which he does by imitating the work of God with counterfeit and camouflage.

The key thing to realize is that once people fall for those who do Satan's bidding, they are led astray and away from God.

Dr. Jeremiah:

Spiritual deception may be Satan's most insidious weapon in his guerrilla warfare against us. Jesus and the apostles speak of it nearly thirty times in the New Testament. One of Satan's greatest deceptions today is leading people, even Christians, to believe he does not really exist or that he isn't as bad as he's made out to be. The problem is, deceived people don't know they're being deceived! Undetected deception makes us extremely vulnerable because we do not know the enemy is even there, which means we neither watch for nor erect defenses against him. The continual deception of the great deceiver requires constant vigilance and dependence on the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.

If a person has not been born again - as Jesus told us was necessary in John 3:3, then THE most powerful weapon against spiritual deception is missing in that person. The Holy Spirit indwells believers and helps to guide them unto all truth through discernment strength when studying the Bible.

I hear people often say that they don't "understand" the Bible, or they "disagree with" some of what the Bible teaches. Why? Because they have not submitted to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Until that happens, the revelation in the Bible that points to Jesus Christ as the long-awaited Messiah will just sound like a "horrible (crucifixion) turned nice story (resurrection) to them.

When I grew up in the Catholic church, Bible study wasn't emphasized as much as the catechism of what the church taught. That is why I was personally confused about the crucifixion of Jesus. I can remember looking up on the front wall of the church, seeing the huge image of Jesus Christ being crucified on the cross and thinking, why did he have to die such an awful death?

My confusion about this remained until I was invited to a Pentecostal church by a friend I had met at work. Previously, I had not known what it meant to be born again.

Years after I took that step, the Lord led me to a Bible study in my neighborhood. It was during the inductive study of the book of John that I re-dedicated myself to Jesus Christ.

Back to the topic.

Dr. Jeremiah:

Satan is the great divider.

Satan has always been a divider. When he was cast out of heaven he divided the angels, taking a third into rebellion with him (Revelation 12:4). He divided the first couple, bringing sin and disharmony between Adam and Eve. He divided the first family, pitting Cain against Abel (Genesis 4:8). In the early Church, Satan influenced the heart of Ananias, dividing his loyalty between God and money (Acts 5:3).

Satan continues all three of these deceptions today. Deception against the goodness of God through dividing people away from Jesus Christ through various ways (i.e. false religions, mocking Christ, atheism, etc.) is increasing at an alarming rate. Dividing couples is seen through the breaking of an oath to a spouse through the rampant divorce rate, adultery and other forms of sexual sin, the killing of babies in the womb through abortion, and the list goes on and on. We see the greed of people and their nefarious activities through the evil use of wealth, which is a sign of division between such a person and God. We know the truth of the saying, "the love of money is the root of all evil." When a person loves money and what he/she can do with it for their own purposes rather than God's purposes, then we see how deception, division, and destruction can occur all around us.

Dr. Jeremiah:

Satan is the great destroyer.

The Bible liken Satan to five different animals:

He is a serpent trying to deceive God's people.
Genesis 3:1
Revelation 12:9

He is a bird trying to despoil God's harvest.
Matthew 13:4:19

He is a wolf trying to defeat God's flock.
John 10:12
Matthew 10:16

He is a lion trying to devour God's children.
1 Peter 5:8

He is a dragon trying to destroy God's Son.
Revelation 12:1-9

Satan is consumed by his obsession to destroy the work of God in the universe, and specifically on Planet Earth.

Dr. Jeremiah goes on to say that Satan will do anything - destroy, wreck, ruin, kill, inflict grief, disease, pain, and anguish - to cause the victim to blame it all on God. Unfortunately, such a strategy often works. But the faithful can stay steadfast through it all because they know Who wins in the end.

Recall all of Satan's attempts to embitter Job? He destroyed everything in Job's life - except Job's faith in God. And when Satan couldn't achieve that, God restored everything that Job had lost.

The thing to remember is what Dr. Jeremiah states here:

"all the evil and destruction inflicted upon us have their ultimate source in Satan, the great destroyer. His evil presence in our world is not God's doing; it is ours. We open the door to him by yielding to his temptation."

The account of Job is an illustration of what we must do today. No matter what happens, we must be steadfast and strong in our faith. I know it's hard - especially when we lose a loved one. But the promises of Jesus Christ lift us up and give us a hope that is beyond anything that this world could possibly offer! Jesus told us that "he is not of this world" (see John 8:23)   Jesus also told us, "in this world you will have trouble. But take heart! For I have overcome the world" (see John 16:33).

Jesus Christ overcame the world at the cross! Confession and repentance of sin and simple faith (like that of a child!) in Him and what He did for the redemption of mankind at the cross is all that is needed.

Every person who ever lived has this choice:

Jos 24:14 "Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD!

Jos 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

I Never Thought I'd See The Day When Jesus Would Be So Profaned [Transcript]

Tomorrow, October 4, 2011 is the date for release of Dr. David Jeremiah's new book, I Never Thought I'd See The Day - Culture at the Crossroads. I already pre-ordered my book so I hope it arrives tomorrow! Meanwhile, I have thoroughly enjoyed the first three broadcasts on Turning Point T.V., and highly recommend this series.

The three broadcasts are available for viewing at David Jeremiah.org or they can also be seen at LightSource.com.  At the beginning of the video, you will see short presentation of The Account - which is Dr. Jeremiah's way to explain the campaign for moral change that started back in the 1960's - through a public relations campaign for a particular "client."

Excerpt:
Not long ago in America, Jesus Christ was honored and respected as the One worshipped by the majority of citizens. But today Jesus and His name are profaned throughout our culture, especially in entertainment. Once Jesus is known for who He is, profanity will turn to praise.

Yesterday's broadcast entitled When Jesus Would Be So Profaned brought back to my memory the post I shared back on September 19th - The Paganism of the LBGQT Agenda Within the post, I had a cut and paste link to a blog that exposed one of the most vile demonstrations of profanity against Jesus Christ that I have ever seen.

During Dr. Jeremiah's sermon, he stated, quite emphatically, that the example he shared (Stephen Colbert's show which included both mockery of Christ and the act of receiving communion) was without doubt one example of utter blasphemy against Jesus Christ that saddened and angered all of us . But Dr. Jeremiah confessed that he was unable to show the utterly disgusting examples he found via the Internet. Perhaps he also saw what I did at that homosexual event in San Francisco.

This sermon was so awesome that I am compelled to work on transcribing it here. That way, when anyone does a search for Dr. Jeremiah's book and ends up visiting here, they can not only click over to view the video presentation, but also read the powerful biblical message that Dr. Jeremiah presents about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

It is for this very reason that my blog, Talk Wisdom exists:

Talk Wisdom's goal is to defend the tenets and values of Biblical Christian faith. We defend our Constitutional Republic and Charters of Freedom, especially when speaking out against destructive social and political issues. As followers of our Savior and Lord, we should boldly stand up for Jesus Christ in our present circumstances. He is our Savior, Lord, and King, and His love needs to be shed abroad in our hearts and in our world - now.

We must continually pray for the lost. We must pray that their mocking would turn to worship once they know about the REAL Jesus!

Again, don't miss this opportunity to learn about THE REAL JESUS!

Transcript will be forthcoming as time permits. The following outline will assist you in searching for the Scriptures mentioned during the video sermon presentation.

Question: How Do You Picture Jesus?

Dr. Jeremiah: The way people view Jesus in America has changed dramatically. Jesus has gone from the revered Son of God, to the subject of ridicule and jokes. I'm David Jeremiah welcoming you to the third part in a series called "I Never Thought I'd See The Day: Culture at the Crossroads." Today's message, "I Never Thought I'd See The Day When Jesus Would Be So Profaned" focuses on how our modern culture views Jesus Christ. In today's world, many people give Jesus Christ less respect than any other religious leader. And unless Christians aren't careful, they will find themselves in a culture where they treat their Savior with shocking disrespect, something I have rarely seen before. But if we present the picture of Jesus Christ presented in the book of Hebrews, we will see Him as He truly is. That biblical picture is coming up on today's edition of Turning Point.

Chorus: I exalt Thee, I exalt Thee, Oh oh Lord. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, there is just something about that name. Master, Savior, Jesus, like the fragrance after the rain. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Let all heaven and earth proclaim. Kings and kingdoms will all pass away. But there is something about that name.

Dr. Jeremiah: I have been in ministry four decades and over that time I have seen incredible changes in our world. Some developments have been beneficial, but others have taken our culture away from it's spiritual and moral foundations. In my latest book, I Never Thought I'd See The Day, I discuss some of the ways our moral values have declined and most importantly, how we as Christians can reverse this downward spiral.

Dr. Jeremiah: Stephen Colbert, who is the host of Comedy Central T.V. show The Colbert Report, spoofed a controversial ad designed for television that was about the Doritos brand of corn chips. In 2010, the makers of the Doritos product created a contest to choose a video commercial that would be shown sometime during the 2011 Superbowl. The commercial spoofed by Colbert was one of the entries received by Doritos though it was not chosen and did not air during the Superbowl. Nonetheless, it was picked up by various websites and ultimately spoofed on the Colbert Report. In the commercial, a priest is worried about how to boost attendance in his church. As he is praying for ideas heaven reveals the solution. Replace the bread or communion wafers in the service with Doritos.

[Audience groans]

After the commercial didn't air, Stephen Colbert decided to spoof it on his T.V. show. I will read this to you with the caveat up front that it almost made me cry and I'm sure it will have the same effect on some of you.

Colbert begins, "Now folks, I may be a devout Catholic."
And the audience cheers and laughs. He pulls out a bag of Doritos nacho chips from beneath his desk.

"I know that Eucharist is usually bread, but through transubstantiation, it becomes the body of Christ. So I honestly can't understand why Jesus can't be a Dorito. Doritos are unleavened and after all, He did "snackrafice" Himself for us and our sins. And remember at the Last Supper according to Mark 14:20, Jesus said he would be betrayed by one of the twelve - the one who dips with me in the bowl."
Once again, there is audience laughter and an image of the Bible and the text of Mark 14:20 appears on the screen.

"They had dip," said Colbert, "therefore Jesus was a chip. Everybody knows the Catholic Church could use a little extra scratch right now. What better way than product placement. Next Wednesday, we can all get our foreheads marked with Dorito dust. For the right price, there is no reason why people can't be baptized in Mountain Dew. That would be the most extreme baptism ever. Once and for all, it would show Islam which religion is more radical."

Dr. Jeremiah: Unless you saw Colbert's commercial spoof on his show or on another website, you probably didn't hear much about equating Jesus with a corn chip, or about the saying, "he snackrificed Himself for our sins." Indeed, incorporating Jesus Christ into profane situations here in America is so common that it hardly gains any attention anymore. Never before has the biblical portrayal of Christ been so foreign to our culture.

In fashion, He appears on Urban Outfitters as "Jesus is my homeboy" tee shirts. On television he often appears in the animated shows of The Simpsons and South Park. On the big screen he has been the subject of The DaVinci Code. In a 2010 interview, Elton John provocatively stated that Jesus "was a compassionate, super intelligent gay man that understood human problems." Renowned atheist Richard Dawkins claimed that  "reborn Jesus would gladly wear an atheist for Jesus tee shirt today and "we owe Jesus the honor of separating the genuinely original and radical ethics that he held from the supernatural nonsense which he espoused as a man of his time."

In their book, "Dethroning Jesus," - opposing biblical scholars popular views of Christ - scholars Daryl Bouk and Daniel Wallace claim that the popular view of Jesus today is not of biblical Christianity, it is "Jesusanity."  Jesusanity is a coined term for the alternative story about Jesus Christ. At the center of the story is still Jesus, but Jesus as a prophet or teacher of religious wisdom. His role is one of teacher, guide, or example. Jesus' special insight is into the human condition, and the enlightenment he brings to it. In this story, the key is that Jesus inspires others but there is no throne for Jesus. He is one among many; the best perhaps, and certainly one we can learn from and follow. I never thought I'd see the day in America where Jesus Christ was fair game for comedians and commercial entrepreneurs. Especially those who profess to believe in Him, like the self-professed Catholic Stephen Colbert. My point is not to pick him out and criticize him above the others because he is actually one of the more tell-able stories in this report. Some of the material that I gained in my research I would never tell or speak of because it is so profane and vile.

The point is how easy it is for us Christians to get squeezed into the mold if we are not constantly filtering what we find entertaining and at whose expense.

Someone did some homework on the Colbert Report and said in the months just before the episode where I cited there were 1.2 million viewers of that program. And, according to an ABC Beliefnet poll, 83% of Americans say they are Christians I know that's an inflated number and I know that's not true but that is what they claim. So that means that 83% of the 1.2 million viewers of the Colbert program that night saw what I told you about. Using these unscientific numbers let me ask you why nobody ever said anything about it and you never heard about it, and it never got in the news? It went nowhere. If that's true then somewhere around 800,000 Christian people heard Colbert do that. We are so tolerant these days and so afraid of criticism we let it go by and we never raised our voice.

The Jesus that we need to know will not be found in the secular media. John Piper said that the degree to which the church is trained to distrust the Jesus of the gospels and to look for ever new human creations of Christ, the real Jesus will be blurred and his power to break free from the unbiblical traditions that bind him will be blunted.

Some of you know what "muzak" is. It is elevator music. It is the music that plays in elevators that you don't even know about until you stop and think - oh, there is music playing. When you are in an elevator alone, there is some music playing. It is background music. It plays in elevators and malls,  and in department stores. It sort of just gets into your consciousness without an invitation. Elevator music is always there so we don't pay to much attention to it. But our subconscious mind takes it in.

Cultural messages like the one I just told you that tends to be tolerated is like background music. Little by little it tends to slip into the consciousness of Christian Americans. It is like cultural noise, whether its in our lives from a late night comedian or whether it's from a pastor of a mega church, or it's in the news from the media, or from a new leader of a mainline denomination. Messages about Jesus are always screaming into our heads. And if we are not careful, those messages like a silently stored song, subconsciously change the way we think about the Jesus who is our Savior.

In the midst of this sordid view of Jesus Christ in our culture we have the Bible. And in the Bible, we have the New Testament. And in the New Testament we have the book of Hebrews. And I don't know if you know this, but there is more about Jesus in the book of Hebrews than in any New Testament book except the four gospels. If you want to know about Jesus, obviously, read the four gospels. If you want to know even more about Jesus, read the book of Hebrews. For the book of Hebrews is all about Jesus Christ.

Hebrews was written to a group of first century Christians, most of whom had been saved out of Judaism. Many of them had been exposed to the danger of giving up. They were under great pressure, having been ridiculed and persecuted by their families for having turned from Judaism to Jesus Christ. Many had accepted this adversity joyfully but others were ready to quit. So the letter of Hebrews appeals to these believers to keep their faith anchored in truth and confident in Christ. And the writer of Hebrews, whose identity we do not know, teaches us that no believer can cope with adversity unless Christ fills his horizons and sharpens his priorities and dominates his experiences.

And more importantly from a theological perspective, Hebrews is the only book that begins with the word God. Did you know that? It's the only one. Now, in the Greek it's not like that. For some reason, God caused the book to be translated into English so that the first word in the book of Hebrews is God. Most other books begin with the name of the human writer, Paul, Peter, or John. But, we do not know who the writer of Hebrews was so it begins with God. We have to allow Him to be the writer, right? God is the writer of Hebrews, as He is of all the other books. And the theme of Hebrews, as I have mentioned,  is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the one that these young Hebrew Christians need to know. He's the one they needed to wrap their lives around. Only Jesus Christ, in a full orbed [Note:  means "emblem of sovereignty" in this context] understanding of who He was could get them through the difficulties they were facing. And, my friends, I think that is true of our world today. I believe as Christians we get our thoughts and our minds on a lot of things and we turn away from Christ, and we wonder why we are having such a difficult time.

Jesus Christ is the one who has promised to be closer to us than a brother and keep us in the midst of every situation.  And just as the Hebrew Christians needed Christ we today need Christ in our lives - not as just our Savior, but as the constant friend and companion in our lives.  Not every book is so up front about what it's about, but if you turn to the eighth chapter of the book of Hebrews you will discover what this book is about.

This is what it says in Hebrews 8:1 (NKJV) Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.

That is what the book of Hebrews is about. It's about Jesus! In the book of Hebrews, we learn that Jesus is better. He's better than everything. He's better than the angels. He's better than Moses. He's better than Joshua. He's better than the old covenant. He's better than the priests. In fact, the word betteris in Hebrews thirteen times! Jesus is better!

I remember reading a book some years ago by Max Lucado, and he was talking about Hebrews. He said, "the best just got better has become the favorite slogan. It's not because the previous product was poor, it's just that the current one is superior."

The book of Hebrews might well use the same slogan. The best just got better. Here in the first few pages of the book of Hebrews is the REAL Jesus. And I think that instead of spending our whole time railing on the world's comprehension of who Jesus is, we do well to focus our attention on what the Bible says about him. You know, there is an old adage that when you are trying to figure out whether a bill is counterfeit - don't study the counterfeit bill - study the real bill. When you know what that looks like, you will spot a counterfeit bill wherever you go! It's easy.

So we need to get back to knowing who Jesus is, according to the Scripture. Now in the first three chapters of Hebrews we learn several; things about him and I'm just going to take you through this because I'm so excited about preaching Hebrews because I get to teach about Jesus straight on. You know I preach about Jesus all the time but he is kind of like in the places between other things. But when you teach Hebrews, Jesus is the focus of every lesson. First of all, Jesus is the final word from God.

In Hebrews 1:1-2a:

Hbr 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

Hbr 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by [His] Son...

Now watch carefully what that says. That says that in the Old Testament, God spoke in various ways and in various times. He spoke to Adam a little bit, He spoke to Moses a little bit, He spoke to Abraham a little bit. He spoke to David and to Solomon here and there. He spoke in various seasons; from Moses in the Pentateuch all the way through the prophets ending with the book of Malachi. But listen, He never spoke it all to any one person or at any one time. So, it what "here a little" and "there a little" and we are blessed because we have the collection of what He said to all of them. But, there was never a time in the Old Testament where there was a full orbed, final word from God! But when you come to the New Testament we are told, "but in these last days he [God] has spoken unto us by His Son..." (Hebrews 1:2 NIV). We know that one of the titles of Jesus is He is the Word. In the beginning was the Word. Jesus is God's last word to man. When Jesus came into his place on this earth, he was simply God walking around in a body. When God wanted to communicate who He was to us, He took Deity and poured it into humanity. This is who I Am and Jesus walked upon this earth!

[audience applauds]

So Jesus is God's final word to man. If you are looking for another word from God besides Jesus, you are going to wait a long time. He has spoken finally, and Jesus is the message. Jesus us God's final word to man. When He spoke in Christ, He said everything that He meant to say. If you want to know who God is, study Jesus! If you want to know what God is like, God is a Spirit. If we try to understand a Spirit, we cannot, so God incarnated Himself in a human body so that now we can know how God is through watching Jesus. Jesus is God in the flesh. Jesus is the final word from God. But if you keep reading in the book of Hebrews you find that Jesus is the First Cause of Creation.

A lot of people read Genesis 1:1 that "God created the heavens and the earth..." and we all believe that but when you get to the New Testament we discover that the part of the Trinity that was involved in the Creation process was Jesus Christ! Did you know that Jesus Christ is the Creator God. You say Jeremiah, where did you find that? Well, I'm glad you asked. Hebrews 1:2 states that, "through whom (Jesus) He also made the worlds." If you didn't get that listen to John 1:1 -

Jhn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jhn 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Jhn 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Dr. Jeremiah: Now that's about as clear as you can get and I want to say to people who don't believe that Jesus is the Creator God, what part of that don't you get?

Col 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Dr. Jeremiah: So we are building a little picture of Jesus. He is the last word from God and He is the first cause of Creation. Then the Bible tells us that Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead.

Hbr 1:3 Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Colossians 1:19 For it pleased [the Father that] in Him all the fullness should dwell,

Dr. Jeremiah: That means that Jesus Christ is exactly the same as God for He is God! This is one of the clearest statements in the Bible of the Deity of Jesus Christ.

John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

We can't see God, He is a Spirit. The Bible says you can't see God and live but you can see Jesus in the pages of the New Testament the Bible says you have seen God.

In his letter to Timothy, Paul says:

1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Dr. Jeremiah: And Jesus says if you have seen me, you have seen the Father.

John 3:19 He who has seen me has seen the Father.

Dr. Jeremiah: I want to be clear about this because one of the great debates about Jesus Christ today as I have read to you in the "Jesusanity" quote is that he is a good man but he's not God. You cannot believe that and call yourself a biblical Christian. Because the Bible teaches that Jesus is not just a good man, he is the God-man! And if we do not understand that we cannot understand Christianity.

[audience applauds]

Dr. Jeremiah: Here in the first chapter of Hebrews is one verse that is the clearest of proof texts the Deity of Jesus Christ:

Hbr 1:8 But unto the Son [he saith], Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness [is] the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Dr. Jeremiah: Here is God the Father calling Jesus, His Son God! You say 'I don't believe Jesus is God' well you and God don't agree! God says He is God and if you don't think He is God well then you have a problem with the Father! Because the Father said to Jesus, "Your throne O God, is forever and ever."

I read this about a biblical scholar named Scott McKnight who took his students in class through an exercise. On the opening day on Jesus of Nazareth, he gave a standardized, psychological test divided into two parts. The results are nothing short of astounding. The first part is about Jesus. It asks students to imagine Jesus' personality with questions such as, "does He prefer to go his own way or by acting by the rules?" Is he a worrier? The second part asks the same question of the students. But instead of asking "is he a worrier," it asks, "are you a worrier?" And the test is not about right or wrong answers, it is not designed to help students know Jesus. Instead, if given to enough people the test will reveal that we all think Jesus is like us. Introverts think that Jesus is introverted. And on the basis of the same questions, extroverts think Jesus is extroverted. Spiritual formation experts would love to hear that students in my Jesus class are becoming like Jesus. But the test actually reveals the reverse! Students are fashioning Jesus to be like them!

If the test were given to a random sampling of adults, the results would be measurably similar. To one degree or another, we all conform Jesus to our own image - and that's where we get into trouble. Because Jesus isn't who we want him to be - Jesus is who He is! Jesus is who the Bible says He is! The Bible tells us who Jesus is and if we would read our Bibles we wouldn't go down that strange road.

I don't know if this ever happens to you, but people come up to me periodically and if I preach on hell or judgment or something I'll get a letter or email. Invariably, I've had people come up to me and say, "Dr. Jeremiah, my God would never send anybody to hell." And do you know what I tell them? That's exactly right because your god doesn't exist!

[laughter and clapping]

Dr. Jeremiah: He doesn't exist - you made him up! We love to take our faith and when there are hard parts of it that we struggle with, we take the out! We excise them from our understanding. Like hell, we do away with it. You want to find a way to get everybody into heaven? Write a book about it, get on T.V., and everybody will think it is true. But that's NOT true! The Bible says that "it is appointed unto men to die and after that comes the judgment." Do whatever you want to it but you can't take it out of the book. Some people think that 'if I don't want it to be true, then it is not true.' Well, you know what? It's true whether you want it to be true or not!

So, if you want to get any place in your life, find out what is true and get on the bus! But don't go down all of these blind alleys trying to make the Jesus you say you love just like you are. Jesus is not!  He wants you to be just like He is. When you get on that track then something good will happen.

[applause, cheering]

Jesus is the final word from God. Jesus is the First Cause of Creation.  Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead.  And the Bible says in Hebrews 1:13, Jesus is the facilitator of all things.

Hbr 1:3 Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

He keeps this whole world from flying off in a different direction or going out of orbit and finally destruct. Jesus has got it into control. He was before history, he was at the beginning of history, he will be at the end of history, and he is the one that controls history. He is the Sustainer and upholder of this world. This is what Paul communicated in his letter to the Colossians when he said to these believers, "He is before all things:

Col 1:17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

There has never been a moment from the beginning of Creation that Jesus has not been performing this mighty work, holding everything together as the facilitator of the universe.

Jesus is the final word from God. Jesus is the First Cause of Creation. Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead. And the Bible says in Hebrews 1:13, Jesus is the facilitator of all things. And here is my favorite on all the list - He is the Forgiveness of Our Sins. Listen to what it says in verse three. In verse three it says:

... when he had by himself purged our sins,...

Christ is not only the revealer of God, He's the redeemer of man. This book of Hebrews is a book about cleansing, and here we are told that Christ purged our sins. He cleansed us. Please note where these words appear in the context of this verse. He who is before all things, and in whom all things are summed up, the one who is the Father's delight and the Father's glory, the one of infinite power and infinite glory; it was He Himself who purged our sins.

For what purpose did he come? He didn't come down to set up his kingdom; primarily he came to seek and to save those who are lost. The Bible says in Hebrews "he came to taste death" for every man. And not one of these things that people talk about when they say these wonderful things about Jesus is worth anything if He didn't come down here to purge our sins.

Think of it, folks. He who created the universe is the one who died for you.

The only one who could do that work on the cross was Jesus Christ. And the Bible says that He Himself purged our sins.

Now remember, I've been telling my people I've been teaching the book of Hebrews for a while and I always tell them about every week that the book of Hebrews was written to that group - the Hebrews. That is a really important thing to keep in mind that it was written to us but it was primarily written to the Hebrews. Now remember, the Jewish Christians knew all about the purging of sins. They had been brought up in Judaism and they knew through Judaism that the blood of bulls and goats and all of that - that their sins were forgiven in advance of the cross. In the Old Testament, the purging of sins was never, ever finished.

Hebrews 9:25-26 says:

Hbr 9:25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;

Hbr 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

I want to tell you some Good News, this Jesus that I'm telling you about that you could tell I'm a bit excited over - this Jesus who is the final word from God, and Jesus is the First Cause of Creation and Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead and is the facilitator of all things, this Jesus is the forgiveness of our sins. And when we come to know Him, He not only hears our prayer for forgiveness, but because of who He is, He can do something about it.

{clapping and cheering from audience]

He can heal us from our sin. He's the final word from God. He's the first cause of Creation. He's the fullness of the Godhead. He's the facilitator of all things. He's the forgiveness of our sin. And He's the finisher of our faith.

Listen to what He says here:

Hebrews 1:3 And He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

In the Old Testament tabernacle, did you know that the high priests never sat down? In fact, in all of the tabernacle with all of its wonderful furniture; there was a lampstand, there was a laver, there was an altar, but there was no chair. If you were an Old Testament high priest you could never sit down because your work was never done. There was always somebody who needed forgiveness and you needed to be there as the high priest. But when Christ entered the Holy of the Holies in High Heaven, the Bible says that He sat down. Say that with me, "He sat down." And I want to tell you something friends, he didn't sit down because he was tired, he sat down cause He was finished!

[clapping and cheering from audience]

He sat down because what He cried on the cross was true. When he was dying on the cross, at the end of it he said, "IT IS FINISHED." And he paid the price for all of our sin and when he went back to heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father, He sat down to signify that nothing else ever needs to be done for sin. He did it all and it's DONE!

[Audience claps and cheers]

Hbr 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

You may be thinking well there is something that I need to do in order for me to go to heaven. Something I need to do for my sins to be forgiven. No, there is not anything that you need do - Jesus did it all. He did it all so well that when He got done He sat down! And He's not waiting for you to do anything except accept what He already did for you! And I'll tell you some more about that in a moment. I'm almost finished, but let me go through this list one more time. He's the final word from God. He's the first cause of Creation. He's the fullness of the Godhead. He's the facilitator of all things. He's the forgiveness of our sin. And He's the finisher of our faith. And here's that last one for all of us faithful Christians - He's our faithful High Priest. Did you know that? This Jesus who created the world. This Jesus who holds it all together. This Jesus who Himself purged our sins on the cross and went to heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father. The Bible says that He is at the right hand of the Father, always there making intercession for the saints.

And over in the second chapter of Hebrews:

Hbr 2:17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like [His] brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

Hbr 2:18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

What that means is that Jesus became for a limited time a little lower than the angels. That He might be one of us and walk among us, and live as we have lived on this earth. And the Bible says over in the fourth chapter:

Hbr 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.

Let me expel some of the nonsense that is out there about this fact. People say, "well if Jesus couldn't sin, how could he be tempted like we are?" Let's face it, I can't not sin. So if Jesus wasn't able to sin, there is this big argument. Was Jesus not able to sin or was he not to sin? Well, I believe Jesus was not able to sin. He was the sinless Son of God. So now they say, "well how could he have been tempted like we are?"

Now I remember reading this somewhere that "is a bridge tested fully when the first car drives over the bridge or is it tested fully when cars have been driving over that bridge for years and years and years? Let me ask you this question. Is a bridge tested when it is found first not to fail? Or is it tested when it is found never to fail?

Jesus didn't give in to any temptation so he felt the full brunt of it all. Whatever it is that you went through, you haven't faced anything like what Jesus faced. You know why that's true? Because you gave in! And the temptation of Jesus was to the fullest extent, yet He never sinned. And the Bible says that when I go to Jesus with my trouble, I can talk to someone who knows what it's like to be a human. He became like us and he exposed himself to all the hazards and perils of life and death and He was not protected from troubles and adversity. When we find ourselves immersed in the harsh realities of human experience where do we go? We go to Jesus.

Think of the blessing of it all. How He shares our labors. How He knows the dull, drab drudgery of some of the common tasks we have to do. The heavy misery of back-breaking toil. He shares our trials and limitations. He was poor with no place to lay his head. He was hungry. He was thirsty begging water from a Samaritan woman. He was weary and exhausted and sat for a while on the well. He bore our sorrows and our heartaches. When there was death in the home it brought tears to his eyes. When he looked upon the crippled, the leper, the blind and the helpless, his heart was moved to compassion. Anybody could approach the Lord Jesus and be welcomed. The poor, the weak, the publican, the simple. In Jesus, God is with us.

In all love and infinite blessing, my favorite name for Jesus outside of the name Jesus is Immanuel - God with us.

Yes, He is the Creator of the universe. He's the one that holds it all together. He's the one that purged our sins. But He's the one who hears your prayer when you cry out to Him in the darkness of the night. When you are going through that thing that you thought you never would go through. When you go through that thing that I've written about - a bend in the road. And you wonder if you know of anyone who has experienced what I've experienced. I'm telling you - there is One. There's One who felt the pressure of it all! And He is our High Priest.

Now I'm going to tell you something - if you haven't figured this out - I'm recommending Jesus to you. I'm recommending Him to you. The book of Hebrews says that we need to do something with Jesus. The Bible says you have to receive Him, you have to accept Him. The book of Hebrews says you need to consider Him, you need to accept Him. You need to be careful that you don't harden your heart against Him. In fact, in chapters 3 and 4, on four occasions we are warned against hardening our hearts against God. And the Bible says today - if you will receive Him do not hardened your heart.

You know people come to churches and they come to events like this and they've heard the Gospel so many times - on Christian radio, on Christian television, in their churches, in their Bible studies, but they still haven't yet received Him. And every time you hear the Gospel and you don't receive it, another little callous forms on your heart, and your heart gets harder. And the Bible warns us that now we know who Jesus is, there is something that we need to do with Him. John 14:6 -

Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

If you want to go to heaven some day, if you want to spend eternity with your Creator God, if you want to be with other members of your family who are Christians and have already gone ahead you better be sure that you have accepted Jesus into your life. Because He is your Creator, He is your Sustainer, He is the one who purged your sins, He's the one who is coming back some day and those who have received Him with be caught up together with Him and to be with Him and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

[audience clapping and cheering]

I went through my Bible in these first few chapters of Hebrews and I put a circle around the word "today" every place I found it. I've come to this conclusion: today is God's Word, tomorrow is Satan's word.

Let me tell you what I have been learning in studying the book of Hebrews. Also, before that in the study of the book of Galatians. Listen carefully, when God tells us to do something and we hear His voice clearly, the space between having heard what He told us to do and understanding it and doing it, does not belong to God - it belongs to the enemy. The Word from God says, "do this." The enemy says "no, you can do that tomorrow." Some say, "I'm going to do that someday. I'm going to get my affairs in order, then I'm going to take care of Christ." But the Bible says in between the command and obedience is the wasteland of the wilderness and Satan occupies that territory like no other part of your life. When you hear what God tells you to do - you should say, "TODAY!" But if you don't say that, you will hear tomorrow ringing in your ears. And, one of these days there will be a tomorrow that's too late.

D.L. Moody was a great evangelist. When he started to preach in Chicago, he would have four or five days of meetings. His method of preaching was that he would preach the Gospel with enthusiasm and passion. At the end of the service, he would say to the people, "I want you to go home tonight and think about what I've said, and come back tomorrow night ready to make a decision." He did that for a number of years, and one night he did that and the Chicago fire happened. And many of the people who were in his congregation, the night he had told them to go home and think about it and come back the next night, perished in that fire and never had a next night. From that day until he died, Moody never ever did that again. He learned the power of today. He realized that the message of the Gospel, when it comes home to our hearts, usually comes home to our hearts in a meeting something like this. Maybe a light goes on. Maybe you've know about Jesus but you've never trusted Him as my Savior. When that happens and you know God is speaking to you, the time to do something about it is not tomorrow, not the next time you meet with God's people, but TODAY!

Dr. Jeremiah's final comments:

Has your picture of Jesus been influenced by how our culture depicts Him? Do you find yourself laughing along with comedians when Jesus is made the object of crass humor? There is no better way to keep a biblical picture of Jesus in mind than by dwelling on the embodiment of Him in Scripture.
