Legislator encourages Californians to keep sending emails

April 4, 2006
Update from CCF President Randy Thomasson

It’s hearing day at California's State Capitol for SB 1437 (the transsexual-bisexual-homosexual school curriculum bill). And that means a jam-packed morning and afternoon for me and Campaign for Children and Families (CCF). First, I’ll be holding a news conference with parents to publicly expose SB 1437 in the media. Then, I plan to testify against this nightmarish bill at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Please pray for me and that the media coverage will expose the facts about this horrible bill.

Thank you to everyone who has used CCF’s Email Lobbying System to urge Governor Schwarzenegger to veto SB 1437 and its companion bill, AB 606, with a copy of your email message being delivered to virtually every state legislator. Several thousands of you have sent email messages, and your values are definitely being heard in Sacramento.

The best response we’ve seen from any legislator comes from Assemblyman Ray Haynes, who said you and pro-family Californians have done the right thing by emailing him and the Governor, and to please keep it up. Here’s a copy of Haynes’ encouraging message:

Thank you for your recent email regarding various bills in the Legislature. I received thousands of emails, many to me, and many copies of letters sent to Governor Schwarzenegger. I just wanted to respond to let you know my position on these bills, although most of the individuals that wrote me may already know.

I voted against AB 606, but it passed out of the Assembly and into the Senate where it awaits a hearing in the Senate Education Committee. If the Democrats want it passed, they have the votes to do it, which is why your letters to the Governor are in order. It may very well fall to him to veto the measure.

SB 1437 was just recently introduced in the Senate and must make its way through the Senate before it reaches the Assembly floor. I will oppose this bill as well.

I appreciate your taking the time to inform me of your opinions and encourage you to continue to do so.

HELP CCF FIGHT TO DEFEAT SB 1437 AND AB 606
If you haven’t sent an email message to the Governor and legislators, I want to encourage you to please do so right now by using CCF’s free and powerful Email Lobbying System. It only takes a minute.

As you and I know, Campaign for Children and Families can't find this battle alone. We need your help to protect the children and defeat SB 1437 and AB 606. Your donation will enable CCF to fight in the Legislature and in the media on your behalf. Will you help?

UPDATE 4/5/06!

April 4, 2006
DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED COMMITTEE PASSES SB 1437, THE TRANSSEXUAL-BISEXUAL-HOMOSEXUAL CURRICULUM

BILLThomasson: "This bill is frightening for parents who want trustworthy schools"

Today in Sacramento, Campaign for Children and Families held a news conference with local parents, followed by CCF President Randy Thomasson sitting next to Senator Sheila Kuehl in committee testifying against her sexual indoctrination bill requiring transsexual, bisexual, and homosexual curriculum in every California public school.

CCF wishes we didn't have to report that SB 1437 passed committee with the "yes" vote of Senator Joe Dunn (who's running for state Controller). But you shouldn't give up or be discouraged. There will be four to five more committee votes, and at least two floor votes before SB 1437 gets to Governor Schwarzenegger's desk. Let's keep going! Email, call, pray, donate, and help CCF go for the veto!

Following is the news release issued today by CCF after the passage of SB 1437 in committee:Sacramento – The Senate Judiciary Committee of the California State Legislature today passed highly controversial legislation that would teach schoolchildren as young as kindergarten to accept and embrace transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality in all its forms.
Voting “yes” for SB 1437 were all three Democrats on the committee: Joe Dunn (the committee chairman, who’s running for state controller), Martha Escutia, and Sheila James Kuehl (SB 1437 author). The sole Republican on the committee, Dick Ackerman, was absent during the hearing on the bill.

Testifying against SB 1437 was Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), a leading pro-family organization based in California. Thomasson, who, earlier in the day, held a State Capitol news conference with concerned parents opposed to SB 1437, said the bill is all about mandating curriculum that will promote transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality in all California public schools, in grades as young as kindergarten.

“SB 1437 means good-bye to textbooks that you’re either a boy or a girl, or that marriage is only for a man and a woman, or that the natural family is a father, a mother, and their children,” said Thomasson. “SB 1437 means radical curriculum changes that include transvestite speakers and transsexual videos, classroom handouts on sex-change operations, and curriculum that tells children homosexual ‘marriage’ is normal. This bill is frightening for parents who want trustworthy schools, not schools that sexually indoctrinate their own children -- children as young as kindergarten!”

For the first time, SB 1437 requires public school textbooks, instructional materials, and school-sponsored activities to positively portray “gender” (which includes transsexuality, transvestitism, cross dressing, sex-change operations, etc.) and “sexual orientation” (meaning bisexuality and homosexuality in all its forms). SB 1437 incorporates the strange Penal Code definition of “gender” and places it into the Education Code, reading: “Gender" means sex, and includes a person's gender identity and gender related appearance and behavior whether or not stereotypically associated with the person's assigned sex at birth. A legal analysis is posted at www.savecalifornia.com.

“If Arnold Schwarzenegger wants conservative voters to support his reelection bid, he can’t afford to sign these radical sexual indoctrination bills targeting schoolchildren,” said Thomasson. “There are already enough laws that prohibit violence and threat of violence in the public schools. SB 1437 and AB 606 are pushing non-academic, extreme sexual indoctrination that take public schools backwards, not forwards. Parents don’t want it and vulnerable children don’t need it. The Governor should prepare his veto pen.”

SB 1437 now goes the Senate Education Committee. A companion bill, AB 606, which would empower the state schools chief to yank two-thirds of funds from school districts that don’t adequately promote transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality in all their policies, has already passed the state Assembly, and is currently awaiting a hearing in the state Senate.

NOTE FROM CHRISTINE:

THESE ARE REALLY TERRIBLE BILLS!! WE MUST DO ALL WE CAN TO PREVENT THEM FROM PASSING. IT HAS GONE WAY TO FAR!! THIS CRAZINESS BEING HURLED AT OUR KIDS IS DEPRAVED AND EVIL! IF THE LOONEY DEMOCRATS ULTIMATELY PASS THIS BILL FOR THE GOVERNOR'S SIGNATURE, WE MUST EMAIL, CALL, WRITE AND PRAY THAT OUR GOVERNOR WILL HAVE THE COMMON SENSE TO VETO IT!!

PLEASE DO ALL YOU CAN, MY CALIFORNIA FRIENDS, TO KEEP THIS BILL FROM BECOMING LAW.

IF IT DOES BECOME LAW, I'M SURE THAT THERE WILL BE A SWIFT EXODUS OF CHRISTIAN STUDENTS FROM THE PUBLIC INDOCTRINATION CENTERS CURRENTLY CALLED "PUBLIC SCHOOLS."

Knight said the bill is touted as being part of education reform — but it's really about "corrupting education and making it a fully owned subsidiary of the homosexual activist movement."
