Covering The Shame of Sin

Weekend, August 5 and 6

The Garment District: Clothes for Adam and Eve

Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
Genesis 3:21

Genesis 2:25; 3:7, 10-11

At one point, Adam and Eve enjoyed a totally transparent relationship with one another as symbolized by their physical nakedness. A few moments later, they had covered their bodies with fig leaves and had hidden from God. What happened? Their sin had destroyed their innocence. Their lack of fidelity to God and to each other had plunged them into a realm of hidden motives, shame, and suspicion.

Fig leaves were a temporary substitute only. After meeting with God and receiving His instructions on living with the curse of sin, a better solution to their nakedness was needed. God sacrificed an animal to provide skins for garments. But even those would wear out and need to be replaced - an ongoing reminder of their original sin and shame. In due time, God provided the sinless Lamb of God as a permanent sacrifice for the defiled consciences of all Adam and Eve's descendants (John 1:29). When we "put on" Christ, we wear His sinless righteousness forever (Romans 13:14).

Have you put on the Lord Jesus Christ to cover the shame of your own sin? You can do so by faith and never again have to hide from God's presence.

The precious Lamb of God gave up His precious fleece for us. Christopher Nesse

Hi Christine - Nice post (as always)

This is very fitting for lesbian Deb - Have you read her latest rant?

Check it out => Animalistic or Human Nature? Or are Both the Same?

I decided not to comment because I don't want to start anymore controversy or waste my time on deaf ears - but I thought you might have some good insights for her.

Take Care and God Bless!

Christine,
A needed message indeed! I love your site and it always encourages me just when I need it. That ain't no accident!

Hi Dani, I said what I could at Deb's site re that post. It makes my heart hurt, but in the end God is in control and will take care of the justice we all deserve.

Christine,
you know scripture....you know Jesus.....
we don't necessarily get justice and we don't DESERVE anything...oh yeah, except that piddly little death punishment that we all get outside of our faith in CHRIST...and none of that judgement stuff is really up to us, is it? and it doesn't happen or isn't carried out by US, in this age...is it? Hmmm...what would it look like to engage folks who firmly did not believe in the way of the Master? What did it look like when He engaged those folks? I'm not sure I know what it does look like...but i've read the scripture and i have a good idea of how it doesn't look.

Hi Everyone -

Just thought I'd jump in here. I've been meditating on how the Gospel is presented these days.

It seems the whole issue of the choice between life and death is missing these days. We continually hear how wonderful our life will be with Jesus, how He will help us with all our problems. While all this is true, the primary reason Jesus died for our sins was to reconcile us to the Father. It's not just something which affects this life, but our eternal destiny.

There's a Scripture in the O.T. (sorry can't recall the address and don't have time to look it up), which tells us if we warn people their blood is on their hands. However, if we do not warn them, their blood in on our hands.

It's sad that believers have bought into political correctness. Jesus was pretty blunt with the Pharisees, Sadducees, scribes and lawyers, who were just looking to entrap Him. With honest seekers, He helped them come to faith.

Blessings,
Anna

Anna,
You hit on something so correctly...Jesus was more blunt and "offensive" to the religous folks. He did not mince words with sinners about their sin....and yet, from what we can tell from scripture, he had more of a reputation for "hanging out" and "fraternizing" with sinners than with religious folk. There's something about that which should ring some chords with us, particularly as it relates to our own walk into salvation. I, for one, didn't come to know Christ because He "rebuked" my bad behaviors, but rather, because He loved me as I was...no, He didn't want to leave me that way...but before I could begin to change, I had to be introduced to Him...begin to know and understand just how very much He loves me. It's incredible, really.

Great post Christine.

But you know that talk of God killing an animal for clothing is not going to go over well with the folks at PETA :) . I'm sure they are angry enough already that Jesus actually fed people fish :) .

Groups like PETA seek salvation in works of their own design, instead of seeking the covering of Christ that you speak of.

Hey Friends!
I've been traveling over the last two days so that's why there have not been any new posts. I'm visiting in Whistler, British Columbia. It's really beautiful here and the people are all so friendly! Only have a moment to post right now, so I'll include more details tomorrow.

Hey Ubersehen, where in Canada do you live?

It's been....well...a bit different here. Have to adjust to the metric system and figure out what a blinking green light means! haha

I haven't seen many churches. In fact, the only one that I have seen so far was a kingdom hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses on the way from Vancouver to Whistler.

LOTS of construction going on along the route between the two cities. Maybe they are widening the road for the 2010 Olympics?

Welp...time for a nap with the hubby and then out to dinner!

Christine

P.S. For some reason, Blogger wouldn't let me publish a new post so I put this in the comment section!

Oh great. Now we have yet another reinvention of Christianity. It's called, Christianity without religion.

Only problem is that the launcher of such an idea says this:

"Out goes the "archaic mumbo-jumbo" of church services and the "silly arguments about things that don't and shouldn't matter"; in come chats about anything that makes you feel good and the world's first dedicated "laughter room" because "laughter is as important as prayer"."

Silly arguments about things that shouldn't matter? Sounds a bit similar to the doubt placed in Adam and Eve's minds caused by Satan when he said, "...Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" and "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

It's the "don't worry....be happy" type of non-evangelism being popularized by the new heresies these days; just like the emergent church techniques being used!

Wow...don't get fooled by such blatant, non-biblical gibberish people...
