What Could Be Better Than This?

Tonight I am studying an awesome portion of Scripture. It is 1 Peter 1:1-16. The gospel of Jesus Christ is revealed through these verses and reiterates why our Lord Jesus Christ faced the horrible death on the cross for the joy that was to come after His subsequent resurrection from the dead.

Why?

For our sakes!

These verses help us, as Christians, to endure the trials and tribulations that we face in this world; for they are temporary and this world is finite. The joy of the Lord that we will share in as we praise Him in heaven will be ours for all eternity! What could be better than that?

~ Christine

1Pe 1:1   Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

1Pe 1:2   who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

1Pe 1:3   Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1Pe 1:4   and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you,

1Pe 1:5   who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

1Pe 1:6  In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

1Pe 1:7   These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1Pe 1:8   Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

1Pe 1:9   for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1Pe 1:10   Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,

1Pe 1:11   trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

1Pe 1:12   It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

1Pe 1:13   Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1Pe 1:14   As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

1Pe 1:15   But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;

1Pe 1:16   for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." [fn]

  Footnote: (1:16) Lev. 11:44,45; 19:2; 20:7

The holiness of God is claimed throughout Scripture. We are admonished to be holy because He (God) is holy. That is certainly a tall order! We can't even dream of being as holy as God! But we can strive for it each and every day of our lives. We will never "arrive" at the kind of holiness that God requires, so that is why Jesus Christ came to the earth to suffer and die for our sins on the cross at Calvary. It is because of His mercy, grace, forgiveness and love that we are cleansed of our sins and re-united with God.

The sanctification process never ends this side of heaven. However, we can see by the definition of "holy" what we are to strive for through obedience to God's written Word, the Bible, God's Living Word, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit's leading in our lives!

From Susan S. via email:

Christine said the Messiah “faced the horrible death on the cross for the joy that was to come . . . for our sakes!”

The Lord leads “me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” (Psalm 23:3, NKJV).

“But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, ‘Let God be exalted!’” (Psalm 70:4, NIV)

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4, NASB)

Beautiful post.

From the east to the west Christine… much love to you and your worldwide readers. I remain yours in the Messiah. (ss)

Hi Susan,

I am currently studying the book of 1 Peter in Bible Study Fellowship. I joined at the tail end of the study (ends in 3-4 weeks), but it is turning out to be a study that I so desperately needed! James message of "controlling the tongue" convicts me of controlling my typing fingers! And now 1 Peter reminds me of what is most important in life - the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and what He has done for us!

I am so sorry that I can't seem to figure out why you are having difficulty posting comments here.

One suggestion is to open up another email account. Use one of the free ones - like Yahoo, Gmail, or others that are available. That way, you can set up an entirely new "identity" for this blog and maybe your comment posts will go through.

I haven't had anyone come along and tell me other suggestions or even why this is happening. It seems weird because you are still on the email blog post list and you are still receiving them.

Things have changed at the Wordpress blogs. I learned that I could not post comments with my google account. I needed to use my FaceBook account. Not sure why that happened, but it is what it is.

Anyway, thanks, as always for sharing additional Scripture verses that add a great deal to the discussion!

With love from a foggy, rainy West Coast this morning,
Christine
