Holy Is His Name Alone

In response to Charlie LeHardy's excellent post called "Bragging Rights," Stephen W. had some really great points to share. He stated:

I agree with Charlie. I don't think Jesus was bragging.

However, we Christians should not think that because of this we should be permitted to "brag" about our relationship with God.

Paul (being a Jew himself) admonished the Jews that they should not "boast" in their special (favoured) relationship with God. That they should not boast in their knowledge of the law, because God, at any time, could bring them down and raise another up (and He did so).

Likewise, we have no cause to boast either. God could just as easily choose to raise another above us. Our special (favoured) relationship with God through Jesus is entirely His doing, not ours.

I know you know that though :)

Well said Stephen! I think that there is a huge difference between bragging about our relationship with Christ and just having the joy of the Lord attitude which means that we want to shout it from the rooftops for the sake of bringing people to consider the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Jesus told us that when we confess our sins, repent and invite Jesus into our hearts to be Lord and Savior of our lives, then we are born again. It is then, that the Helper, the Holy Spirit indwells our hearts and minds, leading us towards sanctification and a life that is more pleasing to God. We still have our free will and sin nature to cope with on this side of heaven, but the penalty for sin, which is the second death of separation from God forever, has been paid for and satisfied by Christ's sacrificial death at the cross for our sakes. The Bible tells us that our sins are forgiven and are "as far as the east is from the west." Christ rising from the dead is a fact of history. We can therefore be confident in Him, as well as the Bible which points to Jesus as the Messiah and is the testament of God.

What an awesome Savior we belong to!! It is the ultimate, agape love of Christ that just amazes me. Sometimes it's hard for me to believe that he loves me that much! He died on the cross at Calvary, for me, for my sins, so that I would never suffer separation from God! I can't think of anything else in this world that is a more powerful demonstration of His love for me; for us!

I think of the power of the Holy Spirit working in my life day by day, and I think that in my finite mind, I could never really grasp what it means to be completely holy. It is a position that God reigns in and I can only see, and share, a glimpse of it. I can see His Holiness as clearly as possible from my current vantage point here on earth, in the life of Jesus Christ. It is when I read and study the Bible that I gain more and more of Christ so I can share Him with others. I take Jesus' words within Scripture that were written for his followers very seriously. He said:

Jhn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Jhn 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

About the unsaved, he told us:

Mat 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

Luk 6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

Sharing the gospel of Christ is paramount in the life of the Christian. Jesus last command before he ascended to the Father tells us this!

Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

Some mornings, I wake up with a song in my head. It may be because I heard that particular song on Klove radio, or on a Christian CD playing in my car while driving around doing errands.

But today, for some reason, this song was brought to my mind probably because I was recalling Charlie's post. I awoke thinking about and playing in my mind this portion of the lyrics:

Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone
Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone

It is you
We adore
It is you
Only you

Here's the entire lyrics to the song:

It Is You

by Newsboys

As we lift up our hands
Will you meet us here?
As we call on your name
Will you meet us here?
We have come to this place
To worship you
God of mercy and grace

It is you
We adore
It is you
Praises are for
Only you
The heaven's declare
It is you
It is you

Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone
Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone

It is you
We adore
It is you
Only you

As we lift up our hands
Will you meet us here?
As we call on your name
Will you meet us here?
We have come to this place
To worship you
God of mercy and grace

It is you
We adore
It is you
Praises are for
Only you
The heaven's declare
It is you
It is you

Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone
Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone

As we lift up our hands
As we call on your name
Will you visit this place
By your mercy and grace

As we lift up our hands
As we call on your name
Will you visit this place
By your mercy and grace

It is you
We adore
It is you
It is you

Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone
Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone

Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone
Holy, holy is our God Almighty
Holy, holy is his name alone

It is you
We adore
It is you
Only you
