White House Insider: Obama Hesitated – Panetta Issued Order to Kill Osama Bin Laden [Update]

Pamela Geller has the inside scoop about what REALLY transpired during the decision process of whether or not to kill bin Laden!

Skulking Towards bin Laden: Obama Overridden by Military and Intel Officials in Takeout of OBL?

Excerpt:

As Obama continues to politicize and mine the takedown of Osama Bin Laden and the outrageous "Islamic burial" that followed, new details emerge of his reluctance and refusal to sign off on the mission. It is the height of hypocrisy and crass opportunism to draw out the release of the death photos so as to prolong the news cycle on the story, and to neglect the tornado-ravaged parts of the country -- instead, Obama campaigns at Ground Zero on Thursday for an "O-victory lap," while it appears that in fact Obama had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the OBL operation.
The story that follows is deeply disturbing, but hardly surprising. When news broke that Obama rejected bombing the complex last month, one had to wonder why. It was reported that Obama feared collateral damage, despite being assured that the walls of the complex were high enough so that no civilians would be killed. Instead, he risked losing Americans in a mano-a-mano raid.
A reluctant American president who was ultimately overridden by senior military and intelligence officials to finally take out terrorist Osama Bin Laden… Ulstermann (hat tip CO)

RE Osama Bin Laden.  Significant push to take him out months ago.  Senior WH staff resisted.  This was cause of much strain between HC and Obama/Jarrett.  HC and LP were in constant communication over matter – both attempted to convince administration to act.  Administration feared failure and resulting negative impact on president.  Intel disgusted over politics over national security.  Staff resigned/left.  Check timeline to corroborate.
Now Intel already leaking to media facts surrounding how info obtained. Namely from enhanced interrogation efforts via GITMO prisoners.  Obama administration placed in corner on this.  Some media aware of danger to president RE this and attempting protection.  Others looking for further investigation.  We are pushing for them to follow through and already meeting with some access.  Point of determination made FOR Obama not BY Obama.  Will clarify as details become more clear.  Very clear divide between Military and WH.  Jarrett marginalized 100% on decision to take out OBL.  She played no part.  BD worked with LP and HC to form coalition to force CoC to engage.
IMPORTANT SPECIFIC:  When 48 hour go order issued, CoC was told, not requested.  Administration scrambled to abort.  That order was overruled.  This order did not originate from CoC.  Repeat – this order did not originate from CoC.  He complied, but did not originate.
Independent military contacts have confirmed.  Stories corroborate one another.  This is legit.
The killing of Osama Bin Laden was in fact a Coup within Obama WH.
Speaking with additional contacts RE info.
Stay safe.

Read the entire thing!

Now when I look at the photo of everyone watching the mission, I see that Obama DOES look angry! He is also wearing his typical Sunday best - a golf shirt. Seems plausible that he WAS pulled off the golf course to be briefed rather than being "in the know" about the entire operation. No wonder it took him several hours to come out and make that created-for-him teleprompter speech!

White House Insider: Obama Hesitated – Panetta Issued Order to Kill Osama Bin Laden
by Ulsterman in Issues, May 3, 2011

"What Valerie Jarrett, and the president, did not know is that Leon Panetta had already initiated a program that reported to him –and only him, involving a covert on the ground attack against the compound."

At the conclusion of the mission, after it had been repeatedly confirmed a success, President Obama was once again briefed behind closed doors. The only ones who went in that room besides the president were Bill Daley. John Brennan, and a third individual whose identity remains unknown to me. When leaving this briefing, the president came out of it “…much more confident. Much more certain of himself.” He was also carrying papers in his hand that quite possibly was the address to the nation given later that evening on the Bin Laden mission. The president did not have those papers with him prior to that briefing. The president then returned to the war room, where by this time, Leon Panetta had personally arrived and was receiving congratulations from all who were present.

In my initial communication to you of these events I described what unfolded as a temporary Coup initiated by high ranking intelligence and military officials. I stand by that term. These figures worked around the uncertainty of President Obama and the repeated resistance of Valerie Jarrett. If they had not been willing to do so, I am certain Osama Bin Laden would still be alive today. There will be no punishment to those who acted outside the authority of the president’s office. The president cannot afford to admit such a fact. What will be most interesting from here is to now see what becomes of Valerie Jarrett. One source indicated she is threatening resignation. I find that unlikely given my strong belief she needs the protection afforded her by the Oval Office and its immense powers to delay and eventually terminate investigations back in Chicago, but we shall see

Update from Atlas Shrugs 5/4/11:

Atlas Shrugs: 9 Months, 16 hours ...... Obama's Reluctance, Osama Poised to Flee

Excerpt:

More details from the Daily Mail on Obama's reluctance to pull the trigger on OBL. My first posting on this subject had heads exploding across the blogosphere. It definitely hit a chord. What is it that they say? If you are getting a lot of flak, you know you have hit the target.
Obama took SIXTEEN HOURS to make up his mind about Bin Laden mission Daily Mail
Barack Obama kept military commanders hanging by declaring he would 'sleep on it' before taking 16 hours to give the go-ahead to raid Bin Laden's compound.
Hit squads of specialist Navy Seals - who were not even told who they were preparing to capture - had practised the mission at two reconstructions of the terror chiefs sprawling compound.
The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan. Read more: here
It is disturbing that the safe-house was discovered last August and that we risked losing OBL over the course of the past nine months. The courier's name who led to Bin Laden through Bush's CIA interrogations was leaked in the latest WIKILEAKS dump. So it was only a matter of time.
"Osama bin Laden had 500 Euros in cash and two telephone numbers sewn into his clothing when he was killed, CBS News has confirmed." It was a miracle we got there in time.
But OBL appeared not to be worried. OBL was at the compound without armed guards or any sort of organized unit of protection. OBL was so confident, so safe, so assured. He lived there for some time (as opposed to moving from cave to cave under Bush). Clearly he was not worried under an Obama administration, and it's a miracle he was still there.
The media won't vet this story. So once again the blogs will go about getting to the bottom of things. The following update makes sense of what we know about Obama's reluctance to fight jihad. He seemed more concerned with getting Osama's Islamic burial right and the "Muslims sensitivities" that might be inflamed by the release of the OBL's death photos. Striking when Obama has insisted OBL was "not a Muslim leader."

*******

Not only that, but now Gateway Pundit reports:

White House: We Won't Release bin Laden Photo.

This White House doesn't know WHAT IT'S DOING!!!! The incompetence is AMAZING!!!

Interesting write-up. This is my first time at this site, so I can’t determine how valid this account is. But it is interesting in hindsight how Obama has been so casual and going to fundraisers, being on the view, etc. – not quite the activity you’d expect with something so serious being planned.

Additionaly, this would tie into the reports from the MSM that he was pulled off the golf course- you certainly get the feeling from the photo of the command room they sent out, that Obama was completely superflous to the activity taking place.

Wellllll…if this is true, it explains the photo in the situation room. Obama looks like the smallest person there. That didn’t seem right if he was the one running the show.

Also, it would explain why the press briefing was over an hour late on Sunday night. They had to write the script and get him to rehearse it until it sounded authentic. I’ll give him credit–he was a pretty good actor–but now that details are starting to come out, it’s looking like everything was a lie, as usual.

WOW. This is incredible but also very believable. The photo might be the most concrete proof that this is legit. Why is the president in his golf clothes? Where is Jarrett? Why is the president sitting in a corner? It looks like Hillary Clinton has the operation folder in her hands. The president has nothing. Just WOW. This was quite a read.

If indeed it happened as described here you have to hand it to his cabinet. They figured out a way to get around his indecisiveness. And they did it in a way that was not in direct violation of what he had told them to do.
Certainly Ms. Jarrett did not approve, but she is only an advisor. Daley is the Chief of Staff; Clinton, the Secretary of State; Gates, the Secretary of Defense; and Panetta, the CIA director and future SecDef. They would all outrank Jarrett. It seems Panetta played it well by going with the prior approval and then letting the President know when it was almost over.
Quite frankly you could look at it as they were protecting the President. He could certainly have claimed he was unaware if things had gone poorly.
Of course, that all depends on whether this is in fact, true. As for that… Who’s to say?

This is way more believable than Obama’s speech. He stated Bin Laden was located in AUGUST 2010. We, the top nation with the top intelligence, take 8-9 months to verify this is where he is?
As a resident of IL, please remember Obama is part of the Chicago machine….he was a JR senator, and his most prominent vote was to abstain or vote, “not present.” The fits what he was in IL….an expert in social function, but a spineless, worthless, leader.

Damn! Hadn’t read any insider stuff in a few months and then this popped in the old in-box today and all I can say is Damn!!! This was one fun and interesting read. And now a lot of the after the fact media reporting seems to be supporting this version of things. And that pic of Obama sitting in the corner cracks me up. Goodness what a dweeb. Kudos to our special forces. They done good!

Interesting. More believable than the official story with barry at the helm. After all, it took him days to give the green light on the Somali pirates. Although some say that decision was taken out of his hands as well.

If this is true, it’s remarkable. I have to say, seems consistent with Obama’s character. While he’s kept many of Bush’s policies in place with respect to Iraq and certainly Afghanistan, this seemed to be far too difficult and risky a decision to make for someone who repeatedly voted “present” as an Illinois state senator. The lack of respect for the President and his authority here are amazing if true.

The reason you know this is true is that Obama was golfing, note the shirt. What POTUS this close to killing Bin Laden would be out on the golf course, unless they were not aware of what was happening.

This makes sense, and is certainly better than what I originally expected which was that Obama did not even know until after it was done, which could not be squared with the photo from the situation room.

What would this man do if there was a nuclear attack?

any time the truth comes out…you are a birther or racist if you consider anything other than the lies told to us…the night of the killing the state dept \’s info conflicted with the White House\’s…the stories got crazier and crazier…even today the story has changed….people were told by the Nazi\’s they were going to have a shower and sadly the followers just walked in to their deaths…so shut up to those who won\’t listen to the possiblity we\’ve been \”had\” by the WH just one more time….

I have never ever, never ever, never ever, never ever, never ever, never ever, never ever, never ever met a Democrat that would listen to reason and who did not operate off of raw emotion rather than logic and truth. It’s sad to see how polarized we Americans are and it is so evident when you read the above posts. Most of the Dems posts are foul mouthed, angry, and defensive. Whatever – you believe what you want to believe, but the more you open your mouths the more you show your true colors – and I don’t think they are red, white, and blue. I would just assume believe this “dribble” than anything that comes out of Obama’s mouth. Congratulations Panetta.

Rings true. It is President Obama’s method of operation to a T. I believe it. It will be interesting to see what comes out in the years to come. This man is an empty suit. He had no practical experience in any field that would qualify him for the position that he now holds.

Think about it people, how could anyone play golf when you know you are just hours from directing one of the most historic covert missions in history. You would think Obama would have been involved in the planning all day and golf would have been the last thing on his mind. I believe the story

This fits perfectly with the scenario I have been pondering since the news broke. Obama had to be forced to make a decision, leveraged as he knew that too many people knew what he now knew about OBL’s location, and he could not afford to have it get out that he had passed on the chance to get him. His involvement as a leader was said to be that he “authorized” the mission.
The cry that he led this, was the driving force, or even had the respect and confidence in our military to initiate this all rang as hollow and clearly unlike Obama. The only two positives to date of his administration is his “authorization” for the marksmen to take out the Somali pirates, and this “authorization’ to allow this mission to proceed. With this revelation, his “authorization” in fact being a coup d’etat really demonstrates how ineffectual a clown he is. He was elected as a token, with no thought to his background, his experience, his ideals, or his Chicago-rooted political and malevolent Marxist disrespect and dismissiveness of the core threads of American fabric.

Ahhh!!! There are just too many great comments! A few furious liberal rants, but for the most part - great observations and indications that what Ulstermann has reported is exactly how the operation went down!

I'm surprised no one here noted that OBL was killed eight years to the day from Bush's "Mission Accomplished" sham speech.

Unlike his predecessor, Obama didn't strut the deck of a carrier dressed as if he'd personally just returned from bombing Baghdad. He simply announced it as an accomplished fact, without all the red-white-and blue banners and blustery rhetoric.

Say what you want, drop all the insinuations and dark hints you like, but the fact remains that Obama achieved in two and a half years what Dubya couldn't do in seven. He certainly would have gotten all the blame had the mission failed; it galls you that he succeeded, doesn't it?

Unknown said...

" but the fact remains that Obama achieved in two and a half years what Dubya couldn't do in seven."

An interesting (and possibly drug induced) interpretation of the situation, considering that Obama was one of the major people speaking against the techniques and procedures that allowed gathering information essential to the mission. I will, however, give Obama the credit he deserves: He broke his word (no surprise there) and rather than dismantle an effective intelligence gathering organization, he continued using methods put in place by Bush and Rumsfield and did not screw that up as much as he has the organizations(treasury, justice, etc.) that he has taken a more hands on approach.

I will also admit that Obama's method of dealing with the international community has had an astounding effect on the stability of the region. Encouraged by his outreach to Islam, it's likely that the Muslim Brotherhood will control most of the mid-East by the end of his first term in office.

Christinewjc said...

Hey Gary!

Good to see you back here. I was wondering what you thought of this "White House Insider's" evaluation of what really happened regarding the run up to the bin Laden killing.

Unknown said...

Hi Christine,

I am remarkably neutral on the whole thing. When I heard that he was dead, my reaction was to hope that meant that no more innocent lives would be ended by the man. No sense of justice or vengeance. Simply negation. I suppose that it might have been nice to capture him for intelligence purposes, but given our current administration's ambivalence towards dealing with Islamic terrorists, he probably would have been given his own room in the White House so that Obama could show the world that he was not torturing the man. The man is dead. On to the next murderer.

GMpilot said...

It seems the Middle East region is in turmoil all by itself: no CIA moles destabilizing Egypt and Yemen and Morocco. Unless, of course, you believe the so-called "Muslim Brotherhood" has coordinated all this discontent in order to focus it at the West.
As an engineer, you're a fine political analyst.

I in fact tried to look at it from your point of view, Mr. Baker, but my head won't go that far up my ass. How's the view in there?

Unknown said...

You tried to look up there? I thought it was a hemorrhoid...

I have no idea how much radical Islamic groups may or may not be coordinating as far as encouraging Muslim discontent. Let's face it: When dealing with savages, it just doesn't take a lot to get the mob whipped up. I do believe that there is a large presence there willing and able to take advantage of the ineptitude of our current president and his lack of any coherent policy outside of Muslim achievement.

As a political analyst, you can generally spell most of your comments correctly.
