Wednesday evening/Thursday this week is the most holy day, Yom Kippur, observed in Judaism. The country's borders are closed, no television, radio or newspapers that day. Even the traffic lights in the capital city of Jerusalem are turned off. One can be arrested for driving a car on this day.
This post is a wonderful way to start my week at work on Monday morning. Thank you. (ss)
Yes Susan,
Sitting in the quiet just talking with God and praying can be one of the highest forms of worship. When we say our prayers and then just listen for His voice in the silence of the moment, that is when His Spirit ministers most. We must be willing to listen.
I also find much comfort in listening to the messages being shared through Christian worship songs.
Jesus promised us that he would return, and in the wake of all the natural disasters happening at such an alarming rate, how could we not perceive them as the "birth pangs" spoken about in the Bible?
We do not know the hour or day, but we DO know Who holds the future. He is our hope and salvation in the good times and our comfort and strength in the bad times.
Because we do not know the day nor hour, we must continue to 'be a light for future generations'. The Great Commission commands us to share the Gospel with all who are willing to listen in order 'To save somebody’s life' as the song lyrics below instruct us. It is not only the physical life of persons that we are called to help with in times of war, disaster and famine, but this song is referring more to helping to save someone's spiritual life. However, we can only share, where the Holy Spirit of God does the saving.
Jesus Christ is Lord over all and knowing Him is the point to this life on this earth. But this world isn't our real home.
Because we belong to Him, we are not of this world either. How do I know this? Jesus told us when he said, "I am not of this world." He told the Pharisees that where he is going, they could not come. Unless we believe that Jesus is who he said he is, the Son of God, Savior and Lord, then we 'could not go' to where he is either. The ONLY way to inherit the kingdom of heaven with our Lord is to be born again in the Spirit of God. (John 3:3). These are Jesus' words, not mine.
Thank God that the cross of Christ has provided the way for us. It is the bridge of reconciliation for sinful man (all of us) to Holy God. We have Jesus to thank for His sacrifice at the cross for our sin. His resurrection to life is the proof that he keeps His promises. As a song I recently heard says, "when I cross over Jordan, I know that I'll be running home to You."

My translation reads one cannot see "the kingdom of God" and I think there might possibly be a difference. Matthew 13 is describing the kingdom of "heaven" when it tells of the tares growing with the wheat. And the same chapter describes the bad fish being thrown out of the dragnet to describe the kingdom of heaven.

You are right, Susan. I should have put (SEE John 3:3) because the post wasn't an exact quote of John 3:3.
John 3:3 - Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Then, in John 3:7 Jesus states:
John 3:7 - Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
I don't think you are being nit picky...it is so important to be accurate when sharing God's Word! I appreciate your clarification because it is SO IMPORTANT!

You never cease to be a blessing with your humility, Christine. Thanks for not taking offense.
What in the world makes you even think about a masters in apologetics? Reading your kind replies on "Not everyone deserves an answer" almost boggled my mind! If you continue to stay filled with HIS SPIRIT, then what more could you possibly need? With the call comes the provision in the kingdom of God and I believe you will always stay "intensely eager" on the West Coast to build God's Kingdom!

Dust to Dust
After church, Johnny tells his parents he has to go and talk to the minister right away. They agree and the pastor greets the family.
"Pastor," Johnny says, "I heard you say today that our bodies came from the dust."
"That's right, Johnny, I did."
"And I heard you say that when we die, our bodies go back to dust."
"Yes, I'm glad you were listening. Why do you ask?"
"Well you better come over to our house right away and look under my bed 'cause there's someone either comin' or goin'!"
Laughter is good medicine... My apartment is small here so I keep my luggage under my daybed... there is no room for dust; however, it does accumulate during the dry summer months since I live on the edge of the Judean desert! Actually, I live on land the world media calls the West Bank. This is land formerly occupied by Jordan before the six day war in 1967.
That's it! I cannot handle anymore before I retire. Tomorrow is a half day for me due to Yom Kippur (public transportation stops early). I will be back tomrrow.
