Christian News Update

Ruth Bell Graham: The First Lady of Evangelism.

There are hundreds of posts, news articles and websites with tributes to this wonderful woman of faith. She truly was Billy Graham's soul mate in life. What an excellent example she was for showing women everywhere what it means to be supportive of her husband in his evangelistic endeavors; as well as a great mother and grandmother.

Note one of her quotes:

Ruth Graham Quotes : " Just pray for a tough hide and a tender heart."

Describes the Christian life quite well!

She is enjoying eternity in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Well done, good and faithful servant!

2Cr 5:6 Therefore [we are] always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

2Cr 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

2Cr 5:8 We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord

Lots of Christian news to share!

Let's start with the good news:

1. Christian teen debaters think, speak on their feet
500 homeschoolers from 34 states compete in national championship.

Notable:

While the NCFCA debate league is young, the success of its alumni speaks volumes about its positive repercussions. Many alumni have been recruited by top-tier universities and are participating in debate and moot court at the collegiate level. Former debater Lila Rose, a UCLA student who exposed a Planned Parenthood cover-up, was recently featured on "The O'Reilly Factor."

The good and the bad news:

2. In honor of Father's Day tomorrow, Pastor Greg Laurie writes Fathers: Now More Than Ever.

Excerpt:

British preacher C.H. Spurgeon once wrote, "A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you, and were helped by you, will remember you. So carve your name on hearts and not on marble."

Men, I am calling on you today to be the fathers God has called you to be. You cannot even think about deserting. You are on the front lines. Our wives, our families, our communities and our country need you.

The bad:

3. On a pivotal social issue, the people will have no voice in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts.

Excerpt:

More than 170,000 Massachusetts citizens signed a petition to bring forward a proposed amendment to the state constitution defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. The amendment already had been approved at an earlier Constitutional Convention and needed one more vote to get on the 2008 ballot. The measure would have taken effect upon passage. Critics noted that this would have grandfathered in 8,500 “gay marriages” already licensed in the state.

The amendment, which was opposed by Massachusetts’ political elite and local and national homosexual activist groups, needed one more tally of only 50 of 200 legislators. But the elites crushed the attempt, 151 to 45, and the media don’t particularly want Americans to know what happened.

A candidate for the Alice-in-Wonderland award for upside down perception goes to ABCNews.com, which gave the story this headline:

Gay Marriage Safe in Massachusetts: Vote to Redefine Marriage as a Union Between a Man and a Woman Was Defeated.

Redefine? Now, let me get this straight.
Just who is it and what group(s) are attempting to redefine history's definition of marriage (which has always been defined as a union between a man and a woman)? ABCNews, you are screwy!

The People’s Republic of Massachusetts
Yep!

Similar to the no-voice censorship going on in the "People's Republic of China!"

The ugly:

4. Gaza: What A Surprise!

Joseph Farah writes:

It didn't have to be this way.

It turned out this way because, under international pressure, Israel caved, capitulated and appeased these Islamo-fascist terrorist monsters, presumably thinking an act of goodwill would win the favor of a population that has been bred on hatred of Jews, Christians and the West.

It was a stupid, counter-productive decision to evacuate Jews from Gaza and turn it over to the Palestinian Authority. It showed weakness. It encouraged more terrorism, more murder, more unprovoked attacks.

It was predictable. I saw it coming. I repeatedly warned of the consequences of the action.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say that "I give up on Israel." We must continue to pray for the Holy Land and observe the Lord God's admonition:

Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Regarding this verse, Pastor Chuck Smith states this in his commentary:

And from that is the promise that the Messiah would come from Abraham. "In thee all the families of the earth." Not just the Jews but all the families of the earth will be blessed from Abraham's progeny, even Jesus Christ.

I wrote about the huge error that the Israeli government made when they pulled out of Gaza!

Excerpt:

I totally agreed with Benjamin Netanyahu when he appeared several times on the Fox News Channel insisting that the Gaza pullout was a big mistake. How correct he was! Israel can give forth all the concessions, appeasements, and "land for peace" deals it wants but it, unfortunately, will never be enough in the eyes of her enemies!
