Stop The Rot!

While listening to the Michael Savage show yesterday, I heard Mike make an observation about "reality shows." He said, "how 'real' can it be to have a camera crew videotaping everything you are doing?"

Good point.

Plus, there is always the fact that much of what is being said is often staged for the entertainment effect.

It appears that there will be a new "reality" show broadcast from the U.K. entitled, "Make Me A Christian."

My first thought was the FACT that no one can make another person a Christian!

Jesus tells us:

Jhn 3:8
"The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

My second thought was whether or not any of the mentors would be sharing the FACT that Jesus said in John 3 that - "you must be born again."

Jhn 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Jhn 3:7 "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

Jhn 3:8 "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

In fact, Jesus said it three times within six verses of each other in John Chapter 3! I would say that such emphasis demonstrates the extreme importance that Jesus places upon the need to be born again in order to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Excerpt:

An atheist, lesbian and playboy are just some of the non-Christians who agreed to participate in Bible studies and Christian mentoring as part of a new television series airing in the United Kingdom this month.

"Make Me a Christian" follows the three-week journey of 13 non-Christians who also include a witch, a Christian-turned-Muslim, an unmarried couple with a child on the way, and a family of six, who volunteered to give up their normal lives and attempt to live like Christians. Throughout the program, they will get to grips with Christianity through a number of Bible studies and mentoring from an ecumenical team of church leaders.

Quite a diverse cast of characters!

But my favorite line was in this paragraph:

The Rev. George Hargreaves, leader of the Christian Party, and his team of mentors think Britain is in a state of moral decline and aim to show that a return to a more Christian way of life would stop the rot, according to Channel Four.

Moral decline? Certainly!

Stop the rot??!!! How politically incorrect! I wonder. Do the participants (i.e. the atheist, the lesbian, the playboy, the witch) all believe that they are part of "the rot?"

Interesting question.

One comment under the Post article (no name given) summed up the same point that I made about the importance of being born again:

When a person becomes born-again by the spirit of God they are given a new nature created after righteousness and true holiness. If the believer makes Jesus the Lord of his/her life he/she will live the Christian life. Doesn't Rev. George Hargreaves understand that?

People need to be born-again not taught how to live by Christian principles.

Yep...

We never know what a day will bring. Jesus said, “I will build my church” (MAT 16:18) and he is doing just that. He is building the church HIS way and his way is upon the revelation knowledge (the ROCK) that HE is the Messiah, the Son of the living God. This revelation knowledge is not revealed by man, but by God in heaven. Praise His Name!

The power of God can touch the hearts of the atheist, lesbian and playboy during this television series. Do you think we will ever be told if any of them experience the new birth? God uses all things for good in the lives of those who love him and are called according to his purpose (ROM 8:28). Some of this show’s participants may be called. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

I had no idea the Lord planned to deliver me completely from the sins of homosexuality and drunkenness when I moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 1984. I moved here because of the “gay” community and God had me buy a house right next door to the woman he used to deliver me over the next 18 years. She loved me, and she believed God would change my life. He did. I am free today.

Have a great weekend Christine. Shabbat Shalom from the East coast to the West in the USA. (ss)
