The Gunrunner Scandal [Update]

For weeks now I have been getting emails from two organizations that claimed that Obama was working to get more gun control done "under the table." According to one of the latest Ulsterman/White House Insider reports, the Congressional investigation by Darrell Issa that is scheduled to begin this Monday could be a very serious threat to the Obama Administration. The Ulsterman Report - Is Obama's Watergate Moment Coming?

Congressional hearings begin on Monday pertaining to Barack Obama’s Department of Justice and its repeated refusal to give full disclosure regarding the now infamous and tragic Project Gunrunner. Attorney General Eric Holder is most certainly at great political risk – is President Obama himself far behind?

[W]hat is certain for now is the overt confidence coming from Congressman Darrell Issa. For weeks prior, Congressman Issa expressed growing frustration at the Obama administration’s refusal to comply with repeated requests to release information pertaining to the Gunrunner program. This frustration has now been replaced by a resolute determination to fully utilize the authority of Congress inherent in a Congressional hearing to bring the matter to full public disclosure via Issa’s subpoena authority as Chair of the House Government Oversight Committee. And with the issuance of those subpoenas, and the resulting scheduling of Congressional hearings on Obstruction of Justice charges against Obama’s DOJ, the battle lines have clearly been drawn. Congressman Darrell Issa is now in a full on confrontation with Attorney General Eric Holder and President Barack Obama.

“This is not a discovery process of what happened. We know what happened. We know that this Administration at the highest levels approved a process that allowed thousands of high powered weapons, basically AK-47s and M-16 look alikes, to go to the worst of the worst on both sides of the borders.”

“This was an operation approved in Washington.” -Congressman Darrell Issa

What was basic aim? or goal to achieve?

Remember a little while back Obama said that they were working on gun control “under the table”? Well, this is part of that. They wanted to show US guns feeding the violence in Mexico. And use that to push for more gun regulation.

But I don’t think that will work now that people are aware of the fact that it was Obama who was sending the guns to Mexico in the first place!

Does anyone happen to know if this hearing was made public? On C-Span?

I saw a brief interview with Issa about this topic on the Fox News Channel this morning. When I find the video, will post it.

Don't miss this scathing article written by Michele Malkin and published over at National Review:

National Project Gunrunner

Buried in Barack Obama’s failed trillion-dollar stimulus program was a $10 million bloody border racket that has now cost American lives. This goes far beyond the usual waste, fraud and abuse underwritten by progressive profligacy. It’s bloodstained government malfeasance overseen by anti-gun ideologues — and now anti-gun ideologue Attorney General Eric Holder will “investigate.”

Welcome to Project Gunrunner. Prepare for another Justice Department whitewash.

You can read about the background information at the link, but here is the conclusion:

Project Gunrunner’s reach and authority continues to grow despite dire, prolonged warnings from insiders and whistleblowers that countless monitored guns have been passed on to violent criminals without being intercepted as planned. Following up on leads first published at and the blogs of gun-rights advocates David Codrea and Mike Vanderboegh, CBS News reported last month that Project Gunrunner “allegedly facilitated the delivery of thousands of guns into criminal hands.”

One of those guns was used by Mexican gang thugs who murdered U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry last December. At least six veteran ATF agents and executives stepped forward to expose how ATF presided over the purchase of hundreds of high-powered rifles and pistols — over the objection of the very private gun shops that the Obama administration’s anti-gun zealots have vilified.

One whistleblower familiar with Project Gunrunner’s Phoenix offshoot, dubbed “Operation Fast and Furious,” told CBS News: “The numbers are over 2,500 on that case by the way. That’s how many guns were sold — including some 50-calibers they let walk.” The weapon used in the Mexico slaying of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent Jaime Zapata has also been linked to Project Gunrunner surveillance operation subjects.

As investigative watchdog Republicans Sen. Charles Grassley and Rep. Darrell Issa step up pressure on the administration to come clean this week about who knew what and when, Obama denied any knowledge of Project Gunrunner on Spanish-language Univision TV. He blithely allowed that “there may be a situation here in which a serious mistake was made. If that’s the case, then we’ll find out and we’ll hold someone accountable.”

Coming from a man who appointed crime-coddling, accountability-evading, open-borders corruptocrat Eric Holder to uphold the law, that is a bloody, cruel joke.

Obama sounded almost exactly like Reagan in that quote! So, what's your problem, then?
