The letter from Edwin J. Feulner, Ph.D. - President of The Heritage Foundation which provides leadership for America.
Dear Christine,
The left has been outrageous for many years. But now that they control both the White House and both houses of Congress, they are acting dangerously.
Not only are they trying to shove their radical, destructive agenda down America's throat, but they are carrying out an all-out assault against conservative leaders, conservative media, conservative ideas - in fact, all conservatives, period.
Their intentions were exposed by a highly influential leftist shorly before the election last year. Markos Moulitsas, founder of the Daily Kos, probably the most widely read leftist website, wrote:
...we have an imperative to take advantage of a historic opportunity to break the conservative movement's backs and crush their spirits. In the White House, that means getting Obama a broad popular and geographic mandate for change. In the House, that means annihilating the Republican caucus and working toward a 100-seat Democratic majority. In the Senate it means getting to a 60-seat filibuster proof majority.
"Break the conservative movement's backs." Crush their spirits." "Annihilating the Republican caucus." That pretty much summarizes their agenda.
I've written you before as a Heritage Member about the tremendous threat the left presents to us. The events since President Obama took office have shown that my fears were well founded. The extreme left is doing all it can to exert its influence in ways that could damage America far into the future, perhaps forever.
You'd think their ambitions would be undermined by the recent election results in Massachusetts, Virginia, and New Jersey. But they are still pushing to get as much of their agenda accomplished as they can while they hold power - and they've done enough to damage America for years.
There's the destruction of the free-market economy - the exploding spending and deficits, the unprecedented government takeover of vast segments of the economy, the heavy-handed regulation, the attack on productive citizens along with the subsidizing of irresponsible ones, the favoritism towards some at the expense of others, and a hundred other things.
And the constant apologies for America's history and principles, the weakening of our national defense, the groveling to dictators, the closing of Guantanamo, the attempts to hand over our sovereignty to international institutions, and the lack of spine in standing up to our enemies.
Then there's the ongoing attempt to make criminals of Bush administration officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, and of CIA agents who carried out their jobs with approval from the highest levels of the Justice Department.
Liberals are thus making policy differences into crimes - a perilous path on which to put America's politics.
And the left's campaign to "break the conservative movement's backs" goes even farther. They have the means and the intention to silence conservative voices. In fact, they got a head start during the presidential campaign.
In September 2008, a group aired ads critical of then-candidate Barack Obama in Missouri. Government attorney there warned citizens that they would bring criminal libel prosecutions against anyone who made "false" statement about Obama.
The Obama campaign called for a federal criminal investigation of another group when it ran ads showing Obama's ties to William Ayers. And they emailed their supporters telling them to jam the phone lines and send protest emails when a journalist who was researching Obama's connection to Ayers appeared on a radio talk show.
Now there are the ongoing attacks on conservative leaders, institutions and ideas - the attempt to marginalize Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and other media figures, the demonizing of grassroots Americans who protest government policies as Nazis and racists, the passing of national hate speech legislation that is sure to be applied selectively.
Congressional leaders such a Nancy Pelosi have long made their support known for the re-instatement of the Fairness Doctrine, a move calculated to shut down conservative talk radio.
And Mr. Obama himself testified as a senator at a hearing in support of "localism" - a rule the FCCA could enforce at any time that would cripple syndicated radio shows, meaning all the nationally broadcast conservative talk shows from Rush Limbaugh to William Bennett, from Laura Ingraham to Dr. Laura Schlessinger.
He installed as Chief Diversity Officer at the Federal Communications Commission a man named Mark Lloyd who has stated his determination to implement localism, and has praised the way Venequela's Hugo Chavez shut down opposition media.
That's just on of President Obama's ominous appointments. Thanks to conservative journalists and talk-show hosts, several government "czars" have been exposed a far-left radicals, and a couple have even resigned. But that's a drop in the bucket to the leftists who are now keep in the bowels of the bureaucracries, to remain there for decades to come.
It wasn't so long ago that the fringe left was just that - a fringe. But radical groups like MoveOn and radical websites like the Daily Kos are now fully a part of the mainstream left, and thus a strong influence on what Congress does.
And thanks to their enablers in the media, their ideas have spread throughout American society. A few years ago only a small radical fringe of conspiracy theorists ventured the idea that the 9/11 attacks were a plot by the Bush administration. But in 2007 a Rasmussen poll found 35 percent of Democrats believe President Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks in advance.
I'm writing to tell you that we need to take all these people seriously - the fringe left, the "respectable" left, the media left, and the left in Congress and the White House. They are on their way to destroying everything you and I hold dear about our country. This is why I'm working with my colleagues at The Heritage Foundation, America's leading conservative organization, and together we are asking for your help in fighting back against the left.
I believe you are one of the special few who have shown yourselves willing to step up and help out when it counts the most.
This conflict with the left has been going on for more than 40 years. Liberals succeeded in taking over so many American institutions that they thought they'd all but won the culture war.
Since September 11, 2001, the divisions in our society have deepened with every passing day. Through their friends in the media and on campuses, liberals have promoted their delusions about America, the free enterprise system, and traditional values, and have made serious inroads into the American people's resolve in the face of our enemies. And now the left is in power.
If they have their way, we will surrender in the war against radical Islamist terrorism, giving our enemies free rein around the world and eventually here at home.
Inside America, if they have their way, they will nominate and confirm only judges who conform to the left's agenda...from dismantling anti-terrorist programs to barring sports teams from saying a prayer to eliminating our Second Amendment rights.
If they have their way, the government will continue to take over more and more of the economy in the name of fighting the recession,...impose crushing regulations on business...put your health care under government control...dismantle our domestic energy production...and pass rules and regulations controlling the very details of your life.
If they have their way, we will treat our enemies in battle like Americans with full constitutional rights...give the UN authority over our national security...and end the intelligence and surveillance programs that have helped to keep us from attack since 2001.
And sad to say, they have long outdone our side at mobilizing the media and other institutions to get their way.
Over the last few years, with funding from billionaire George Soros and other wealthy liberals, the left has devoted tens of millions of dollars to building what the Washington Post called "a network of think tanks and advocacy groups to compete with the potent conservative infrastructure built up over the past three decades." Their goal is to help institutions "equipped to take on prominent think tanks on the right, including The Heritage Foundation."
As we have repeatedly seen, the left will say anything to win. They will make up lies about their opponents, deny things they've done and said that are a matter of public record, and distort conservative policies to convince people that their prosperity and freedom are in peril unless the country moves far to the left.
They resort to insults in place of reasoning, as their reaction to Sarah Palin shows. During the presidential campaign a Philadelphia group of Obama supporters shouted "Let's stone her." Leftist web stores sold "Abort Sarah Palin" bumper stickers. An artist created a picture to go with his slogan "Mother I'd Like to Punch" - a man slugging Sarah Palin in the face.
The Heritage Foundation has played a big role in defending and promoting conservative ideas and policies - and in fact some of these radicals have attacked us by name.
One leftist web site called us a "propaganda operation disguised as scholarship." It continues, "In our view, The Heritage Foundation with its offshoots is the single most pernicious influence in politics in the United States of America today."
If by "pernicious" they mean that we're influeincing America in a conservative direction, we'll wear that label proudly!
And now it's essential that we intensify this work to a level we've never reached before.
We need to push for strong policies in the war with radical Islamist terrorists, pointing out how wrong the left is when they side with Europe and the United Nations against their own country, when they insult ordinary Americans, when they push for weakness in the face of our enemies.
We need to identify and ooppose the political correctness in our institutions - including the armed forces - that allows radical Islamist terrorists to remain in place until they commit an act of violence.
We need to defend and explain the free-market economy, and how our current econimic problems were caused far more by government interference than by lack of regulation. We need to show the disastrous results whenever governments take over important segments of the economy. We need to remind people of the entrepreneurial roots of our long history of economic growth, and identify high taxes and other policies that are destroying jobs and prosperity.
We need to continue to proclaim and explain our support for judges who belive int he Constitution, and for giving schoolchildren a true picture of America's history and greatness.
Heritage experts are on TV dozens of times each month, and in newspapers hundreds of times, explaining the policies and point of view you and I believe in, and telling the truth to the American people. We had more than 2,000 radio and 1,000 TV appearances last year.
We have ongoing promotional partnerships with talk-show hosts Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, getting our research and our ideas out to a larger public than ever before.
Rush recently said, "The Heritage Foundation is a group of smart thinkers and scholars, excellent writers, and they churn stuff out faster than you can keep up with it: How to move the country forward, how to provide information that people can digest and then spread to others." [Note from Christine - this is EXACTLY why I'm typing this letter out here at my blog!]
And at least as important as our defenses of conservative institutions, people, and policies, we're attacking the problem at the root - by working to change the climate of moral relativism, and to give young people a true sense of the greatness of America and of our founding principles. Just one example: We have distributed more than 3 million pocket Constitutions over the last two years.
We're standing up for Western civilization and proclaiming it superior to other cultures such as those that allow no dissent, repress their women, and worship death. We're doing this in our media appearances, in our op-ed columns, and in the facts, figures, and analyses we give our allies in Congress and elsewhere as intellectual ammunition.
As Ronald Reagan said, there's no limit to what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit. You don't always see our tag-line on our efforts, but many of the facts and analyses you hear elsewhere originated here at Heritage.
As a Member of Heritage's Board of Trustees, I have sent you this letter in the hope and the belief that as a patriotic Heritage Member you will join us in our fight.
It's absolutely necessary to fight bvack against the danger posed by the radical left - to fight against a socialist econmy, and for lower taxes, opening up land for oil and natural gas exploration and giving Americans more fredom and responsibility in their own lives.
It's necessary to support the war on radical Islamist terrorism and not allow it to be watered down by those who would rather please the UN and European governments than to protect America.
It's necessary to fight against the moral relativism that has led to this split in America - between those who see clearly that we have enemies who want to destroy us, and those who think that we are worse than any of our enemies.
And it's necesary to fight against proposed judges who believe that their role is to create new rights and privileges based on what the cultureal elites want to impose on the rest of America, instead of to follow the law and the Constitution.
Most of all I hope that you want to help do something to restore our country to a place where our fellow citizens are not ashamed to call right and wrong by their names, where we honor America's great history and her unique contribution to the world, and where we understand that somethimes we have to fight our enemies for our survival.
The Heritage Foundation relies on the support of Member like you.
The leftist groups I've described are supported mainly by limousine liberals, Hollywood moguls, billionaires like Soros's friends and the like.
In sharp contrast, Heritage is supported by over 580,000 Americans, some on fixed incomes, mostly middle-class citizens who have to think carefully about where they spend their money.
Christine, I know you are not a billionaire like George Soros or a wealthy Hollywood ideologue like Barbra Steisand. Heritage and I are grateful for every dollar you give, because we know it comes from your heart, and you are sacrificing to support the principles and ideas you believe in.
[A]nd of course, every extra dollar you give adds to our effectiveness in standing up for America and American values, getting our ideas out to where they count, and discrediting the radical, destructive ideas of the left.

I call for Dalia Mogahed's immediate dismissal. While our country's men and women, sons and daughters, friends, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers are shedding their blood on foreign soil, being maimed and slaughtered while fighting to defend of our liberties, our rights, our freedom, our Constitution, and the very foundation of our way of life, an official connected to our own White House is sitting down next to known, vocal, avowed enemies of our Constitution and our nation, giving them aid and comfort, defending Sharia law as an overthrow of our Constitution, and having it broadcast all over the world on Islamic television.
