Update: 11:00 a.m. PT

You just never know what you'll find when reading other people's comments!

In an article at ABC trying to debunk the whole notion that Obama went to a radical madrassa, they let slip this tidbit:

Obama's mother, divorced from Obama's father, married a man from Indonesia named Lolo Soetoro, and the family relocated to the country from 1967-71. At first, Obama attended the Catholic school, Fransiskus Assisis, where documents showed he enrolled as a Muslim, the religion of his stepfather.

The document required that each student choose one of five state-sanctioned religions when registering Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic or Protestant. Gibbs said he wasn't sure why the document had Obama listed as a Muslim.

"Senator Obama has never been a Muslim," Gibbs said

HT: Commenter "zombie" over at LGF.

P.S. Go see zombie's collection of "Hall of Shame" photos.

WARNING! Many photos in the "Hall of Shame" link are visably and verbally, terribly offensive... and some are awfully gross!

Just don't claim that I didn't warn you before you venture over there.

However, my Christian friends, (as well as anyone else who reads here) IMO, you NEED to look at them.

You will see clear and absolute evidence that my new label for the "LOONIE LIBERAL DAFTS" is exceedingly accurate!!

P.S. I'm SO GLAD that I don't live anywhere near Berkeley or San Francisco!

Thank you Lord for your mercy upon me!!

I do have a new title for the liberal left. They call conservatives wing-nuts because they are actually loose bolts! And you know what would happen to the loose bolt without the wing-nut!

Jaded said...

Loose bolts...that's funny!

The thing that I find so ironic is that the extreme left is nothing more than a mirror image of the very thing they say is bad about the extreme right. They are just as much a part of the problem as they consider conservatives to be, but they're so full of their self-righteous indignation that they can't see it.

Both sides need to compromise, but not in a way that leaves the American people vulnerable to any number of possible catastrophes. I don't agree that we should have ever gone to war in Iraq based on the information we gained after the fact, but, the information at the time was credible. No matter how we feel about the war at the present moment, we can't just pull troops out now to appease the people at home because it would not only destroy Iraq, but it would further destabilize the Middle East. We might as well just hand Osama the key to the city in DC if we do that. No war is ever good. Statistically, however, you have a greater chance of being randomly murdered, assaulted or raped walking down the streets of Philadelphia than you do on the streets of Baghdad. The violent crime in this country is rampant, but I don't hear any of the left crying for something to actually be done here.

And perhaps you're right about our previous conversation, Christine. We may have had more in common originally, but because of the context of the conversation it was difficult to tell. I still think we have differences of opinion on some large issues, but it's nice to be able to discuss rather than attack one another.

There are a lot of nutjobs in the world indeed.

"Scrotal inflation" cracked me up I have to admit.

Christine...I enjoy your pointing out the excesses of the loons at the extremes. I'm really looking forward to your expose of the loony right. :)

Love it Faultline! Loose bolts...hah!!

Their title is certainly getting long!

Loonie Liberal Left Loose Bolts!

We need to start using an acronym...LLLLB's! he he...

I'm having too much fun today!

Jaded,

Many would deem me as being part of the "extreme" right! It's all in one's own perpective...I guess.

I know that we disagree on the homosexual "gay" Christian debacle. However, I found an article last night about Chad Allen starring in a new movie about sexual brokeness and ex-gay therapy.

It appears that he has learned that his first impression about evangelical Christians was skewed, and he has been treated warmly by many that he has met.

Although he disagrees about the results of ex-gay therapy and wouldn't go through it himself, at least he shows an open mind about it...unlike that "Ex-Gay Watch" blog which has a nasty habit of cutting down any ministry effort for people who desire such therapy.

Christinewjc said...

Ebsfwan,

I know!!! That one completely floored me! I thought...why on earth...what on earth...who on earth...would do such a crazy thing!!

Ugh!!!!

Anyway...back to some saneness.

I have already spoken out against some extreme right groups. I've done several on the Westboro Church loonies...here's one about:

Fred Phelps

In the "Getting Our Terms Rights" thread, I mentioned:

The Jim Jones cult.
The abortion clinic bombers.
The abortion doctor killers.
The Oklahoma City bombing killers.

I've discussed leaders that are money driven and also taking people towards a false gospel...Benny Hinn comes to mind.

But I think that you would likely include some legitimate preachers just because they may have made some politically incorrect comments and/or condemn that with which you don't think needs to be condemned.

The T.V. preachers whom I respect are:

Dr. David Jeremiah
John Hagee
Billy Graham (of course)
Franklin Graham
Anne Graham Lotz
D. James Kennedy
Jerry Falwell
Pat Robertson (although he has made some mistakes and had a few biblical inaccuracies in his statements.)

The ones I don't trust and think are "wolves in sheep's clothing" are:

Benny Hinn
Joel Osteen (don't yell...fellow Christians...I know that a lot of you like his books!)
Bishop Spong
Gene Robinson

I'm sure there are many others that I just can't think of right now.

On my list of "questionables" are:

Rick Warren (I was sorry to see him drifting towards the emergent church movement and not emphasize the cross of Christ enough.)
Joyce Meyer (really loved her book called "Battlefield of the Mind" but found some new-agey and questionable pentecostal stuff in her beliefs.)

How do I base my judgments about such preachers? On the biblical accuracy of what they share.

Granted, no one is perfect, but the preachers that I trust most are generally completely biblically accurate in their preaching and beliefs. That's the true measure (for me) in establishing them as accurate preachers of the Gospel of Christ.

I am just speechless about this protester's sign:

OK...got my jaw back up from the ground...

See!!!! And you think the conservatives haven't been warning you??

"You die last"

So funny. I'd actually think they were more likely to die first if Islam ever became entrenched.

Jaded said...

I completely disagree with you on Falwell and Robertson. One's power hungry and the other's competely insane, in my opinion.

I agree with you about Osteen. I know he's sort of the golden child of Christianity right now, but I think anyone who is put in charge of a congregation should, at the VERY least, have gone to seminary to become formally ordained. I think it's irresponsible for anyone to just call themselves a pastor because they happen to believe in Christ and happen to have read the Bible. Even a kindergarten teacher has to have been to college to teach 5 year olds how to play nicely with one another and how to recite the alphabet. Why would we seek answers and guidance from, or trust our very souls to, someone who hasn't bothered to go to seminary? To think that you know more than those scholars whose teachings you'd study in seminary is arrogant.

My opinions on the gay Christian debate are based on the idea that we're all sinners, and we can not know what's in another person's heart. We can not know anything about their walk with the Lord, so we can't sit in judgement. No sin is greater than another. If we continually bash, belittle and attack anyone who identifies themselves as a Christian and happens to be gay, all we do is drive them further from Jesus. No matter how good our intentions might be, if we cause resentment which alienates anyone from Christ, we've gotten it wrong. In the end, I really don't think it'll work to say "Oh, I know I drove people away from you, Lord, but they were homosexuals so they weren't really Christians anyway." I think it's only through compassion, understanding and testimony that we can witness to anyone with the hope of reaching their souls for Christ. It takes baby steps and love, not agressiveness and Bible thumping. These are just my opinions, which I know aren't necessarily popular here.

I do agree that there are those who seek ex-gay therapy, and it should be available to them. I believe that anything is possible through Christ, so if someone says that Christ changed them, it must be so. But people like Fred Phelps destroy any positive strides that others have made. I truly believe he's gotten it wrong, only his is the name most people know.

And I'm not trying to imply that you're aggressive or that you drive people away from Christ. I am only speaking in generalities here.

Alright, it's very late and my eyes are crossing, LOL. I hope I made sense, and that I didn't make too many typos!

Christinewjc said...

Jaded,

Regarding Falwell and Robertson, which one is "power hungry" and which one do you deem "insane"? Why?

Mark over at Chester Street has a good blogpost called Reducing God's Holiness where he makes some great points on the "gay" Christian issue.

I know that you probably won't agree with his post or my opinion here, but since you shared yours I thought I'd share mine in reply.

Here is a copy of my comment over there:

Even though dictionary.com doesn't have this in it's list of definitions of the word, it is interesting to note that the term repent, comes from two root words that mean the following:

re - meaning "return."
pent - meaning "highest position."

So, when we put both of these together, we find the positive side of the term "repent" means:

Return to the [past] highest position with God; just like what Adam and Eve enjoyed and had before the Fall. Their original position was lost because they deliberately disobeying God,
succombed to temptation, and ultimately committed sin (which separates us all, now, from Holy God).

In Genesis, Adam "walked with God" and all was good. When Adam and Eve sinned, they lost their position in the highest position with God [man was made a little
lower than the angels] and as a result, died spiritually...immediately.

The call to repentance for sin is the "bad news" that we must face in order to be born again through Christ's sacrificial death at the cross. It is a crucial step before the Good News of the Gospel of Christ can be applied to the individual, repentant soul.

Jesus in Matthew:
Mat 9:13 But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Mark stated: "Remember folks, we are not free from the law of Christ. To teach others that the sin in our lives is ok with Christ, is to trample His blood."

Awesome point! It is exactly why I have a problem with the "gay" Christian theological stand that "homosexual behavior is not sin."

Jesus himself told us that he didn't come to abolish the Law and the Prophets, but to fulfill them!

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

He did what no ordinary human could ever do. Be the Perfect Substitute and Perfect Sacrifice to save us from the consequences of our sins! Those who would, as you said, deliberately trample on his blood are grieving the
Holy Spirit of God.

Jesus doesn't want just a part of our lives...he wants all of our life!

This is well said:

The law of God, prepares the heart for His grace!

It takes NO faith to celebrate those sins which you are unwilling to give to
God!

It is a form of self-deceit when one is not willing to give certain sins (most likely that are pleasurable) to God.

Isa 44:20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, [Is there] not a lie in my right hand?

Fausett and Brown commentary on this verse:

19. considereth--literally, "layeth it to heart," ( Isa 42:25 Jer 12:11 ).
abomination--the scriptural term for an idol, not merely abominable, but
the essence of what is so, in the eyes of a jealous God ( 1Ki 11:5, 7 ).

20. feedeth on ashes--figuratively, for the idolater delights in what is
vain ( Pro 15:14 Hsa 12:1 ). "Feedeth on wind." There is an allusion, perhaps,
also, to the god being made of a tree, the half of which was reduced to ashes by
fire ( Isa 44:15-17 ); the idol, it is implied, was no better, and could, and
ought, to have been reduced to ashes like the other half.
deceived heart--The heart and will first go astray, then the intellect and
life ( Rom 1:28 Eph 4:18 ).
lie in . . . right hand--Is not my handiwork (the idol) a self-deceit?

*******
If one is self-deceived, (on the homosexuality issue or any other issue) then what a self-deceived person teaches others to believe pushes their "student" towards deception, also. Not a good thing...
