I have to admit, this was quite a surprise for me!
I'm humbled, excited and... a bit scared. Now I really need to "do well for the Lord." The pressure is on.
On second thought, I am going to keep in mind what my wonderful sister in Christ, Susan Smith, said over in the nominations thread at Weblogs 2007. She wrote:
Religion is man trying to reach God. Christianity is God reaching man. This blog is not "religious." However, it shows true LIFE in Jesus the Messiah. When we accept the way and understand the truth, then we have the LIFE.

Jesus the Messiah is where my focus has been and where it will always remain.

TalkWisdom needs all the votes it can get. Some tough competition on the list...especially the big, well-known blogs like "Evangelical Outpost" and "What Does the Prayer Really Say?".
Compared to these giants, this blog is the proverbial "little fish in the big pond!" lol

I'll pitch you some votes on my blog on Monday when my traffic is back up -- it always slows a bit on the weekend but kicks in pretty good on Mondays with the fresh column up.

congratulations - that's really a compliment.
why i closed my blog: i've had some stuff going on in my own life that caused me to go awol from work a couple of days. i shared with my boss a couple of posts that i said kind of explained what was going on.
anyway, he felt obligated to show them to the head of HR, who called and said that, from he read, he was worried about me. we talked a bit, and i seemed to settle him down a bit. but his concern was genuine.
so i decided just to shut the thing down for awhile - it's been good for my soul-wrestling, but if i can't be genuine (ie, because "someone may be watching"), i'm not going to do it.
and the arguing has gotten me down a bit. actually, a lot.
but i'll get back in the saddle in awhile.

i didn't say those weren't the rules, silly - but living here in georgia, it just sounds like the old days when people voted "early and often" in elections. reminds me of the herman talmadge days (look him up).
so...will the weblog awards have a poll tax next year, too? :)
when they have the awards, will you need someone to present the award to you - like they do at the rock & roll hof?

From the looks of the current voting trends in this category, I don't think that I will need to worry about anyone presenting me with an award. This blog is currently in the running for 7th place.
Perhaps I should fight for being in last place? After all, in Matthew 19 Jesus did say:
Mat 19:30 But many [that are] first shall be last; and the last [shall be] first.
Of course, Jesus wasn't talking about anything as insignificant as an earthly "award."

Go see Holy Schmidt; especially this post
It appears that the commenters there enjoy "having their ears tickled" rather than seeking out the truth of God's Word. It's just a typical sign of a generation lost in spiritual oblivion.
I could use the Bible to counter much of what is in that second post, but I think it might anger the Weblog Awards people. They might label me as a "Holy Schmidt" basher...or something.
Non-Christians don't like being told that Jesus is the only way to God the Father and that the Bible is God's Holy Word, instructive for living on this earth. Man likes "the less rules, the better." Obedience to Holy God often isn't even on their radar screen.
Perhaps when the contest is over, I might engage in a dialogue with some of the other nominees...who knows.
If I were to do so with "Holy Schmidt," I'd start with sharing these three posts:

On second thought, maybe I'd better not share those posts there. Anyone who seriously believes the following about "holiness" would not be open to a biblical discussion about it:

Seems a bit enraged at the Catholic and evangelical Christian nominees...
But she states that like myself, she will refrain from commenting at the blogs she disdains until the voting is over.
Look out...I sense that the UU storm is eventually a'comin towards Talk Wisdom and other Christian/Catholic blogs!

I must admit, she is certainly entertaining, obviously intellectual in her approach to spirituality, proud of her "tolerant" stance, and amusingly good with communicating her wrath at those she perceives to be inferior (a.k.a. Christians and Catholics).
It's O.K. though. I'll be up for a challenging discussion come Friday morning...as long as we can keep it civil.

UU - i think, more and more, i'm considering myself a christian agnostic universalist. want to follow christ's ideal, even believe he died and rose again, but don't believe everything in the nt about him, plus believe everyone will ultimately be saved.

you mentioned holiness the other day as "set apart for god."
so if god is holy, who is he set apart for...us?
