My statement:
There appears to be a recurring theme of rejection by the liberal, progressive left towards recognizing the need for repentance of sin and thus redemption of one's soul through God.
Take almost any issue heralded by the left as "good," which at the same time is opposed by Conservative Christians who follow Jesus Christ and His Word, the Bible, and you will see that the rejection of the need for repentance of sin and the rejection of the need for redemption of one's life and eternal soul is one of the big reasons why the left will inevitably always clash with the right.
Agree or disagree?
Care to share some examples?

The Word of God -
Ephesians 1:7 - 23
Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Eph 1:8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Eph 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
Eph 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; [even] in him:
Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Eph 1:15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
Eph 1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what [is] the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places],
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph 1:22 And hath put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all [things] to the church,
Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Hi Christine,
Not all the people on the left are non-Christians. And as you know, there are lots of ways of interpreting the Bible. When the Civil Rights movement was going on in the 1950s and 1960s, there were plenty of Christians who were against it. Jerry Falwell was one--he hated the idea the blacks and whites should be mixed and/or married. He claimed it was God's word. How many Christians are against blacks and whites mixing and getting married now?
Anyway, it sounds like you are making it a good/conservative (not suprisingly you consider youurself part of this good/conservative group) and evil/liberal issue. To me, this is the wrong way to think about it and just adds to the divide between the two groups.
The word of God:
Matth 5:38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'5:39 But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also;5:40 and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well;5:41 and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile.5:42 Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.5:43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 5:45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.5:46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?5:47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.6:1 "Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven."
Kevin,
You are missing the point. It is not about the religion of Christianity, it is about repentance and redemption through the Cross of Jesus Christ.
There are people who call themselves Christian because they were brought up that way. However, they may never have taken the step that Jesus specifically stated that they must do - be born again. See John 3 where Jesus says one MUST be born again - and he says it three times in the passage.
It is the leftist churches that downplay the Gospel message of Christ. They usually do exactly what you just did - quote Scripture that doesn't apply to the conversation at hand.
Many liberal leftist congregations either downplay, ignore, or downright reject the Cross of Christ for redemption. They skip right over to the mercy and grace aspect without going through the confession, repentance of sin, and being genuinely born again in Christ Jesus.
Many are following (knowingly or unknowingly) the Marxist social justice crowd.
Forgot this part. Many also embrace the ideology of "collective salvation" - like Obama does.
Hi Christine,
I will agree with the premise that most liberals (Christians and otherwise) reject the need for repentance. I will add that they have in many cases adopted a world view that completely turns Christian teaching upside down.
One of the basic premises of Christianity is that we must repent of our sins. This does not provide the forgiveness, but is a fitting and proper response of gratitude for the grace of Christ. And for this grace, and for all of our blessings, we are not only to be thankful, but to enjoy them as gifts from God.
Modern liberalism makes a mockery of this. Instead, people are taught to be "proud" of their sins as in gay pride marches. They are encouraged by lawyers and accountants to call and be relieveed of their lawful debts and obligations. They rejoice in their "choice" to kill the unborn.
At the same time, the people are taught to mourn for their blessings. They are told to feel shame for being born into America because of it's supposed sins of the past and present. They are told that those who have achieved should be shunned and villified as cheats, and yet heap honor on those who contribute nothing to society and live at public expense. They are taught to ignore reason and instead embrace animal emotion as the basis of policy and decision making. And they are taught to excuse anything except a person who insists that there really is right and wrong.
