His Country's Man

I found John McCain's speech very patriotic, genuine, and filled with America's greatness. This is quite a contrast from the constant negativity being spewed during the DNC convention last week. Obama's speech "among the Greek pillars" was a show - not very genuine IMO.

McCain shared many great points. I think that the best statement was when he stated that after his captivity for five years in a cell in Vietnam, he was no longer "his own man - he was his country's man."

What a contrast between Cindy McCain's life and love of country vs. Michele Obama's statements in the past like when she said, "for the first time in my adult life - I am proud of my country."

Michele must have been coached to change her image at the DNC convention. She certainly wasn't "herself" there. She tried to re-make herself and hide her previously nasty tones. The coaches helped her to put on a new wardrobe and a new hairdo - all with the goal of putting forth a kinder, gentler image. For me? It didn't work. I already knew the real Michele Obama - all too well.

While watching the video of Cindy McCain and all that she has done to help others, I couldn't help but think about one of Michele Obama's most disturbing lines during the campaign. It was when she was "encouraging" a crowd of supporters to get out and work. She also told them, 'Barack will NEVER let you go back to the way you used to live' - or something like that. How arrogant a statement is that?? Does she think that she and her husband will get into office and create some kind of Marxist-type utopia complete with their minions of "worker bees" at their beck and call?

What a HUGE contrast there is between the two would-be First Ladies.

Back to McCain's speech.

Our choice couldn't be more stark, or more clear. Either the country will elect an inexperienced candidate - who is known for his corrupt associates and was was "selected" by the DNC, the MSM, the Soros millionaire types, the Hollywood crowd, and the Obamabot followers - or, they will be wise enough to see through that charade and elect a true patriot, America lover and defender who will work for YOU, protect and defend our nation, and put country first - rather than get into office for the purpose of his own glory.

I continue to pray for the election of John McCain.

More tomorrow. Goodnight!

Excerpt:

I was in solitary confinement when my captors offered to release me. I knew why. If I went home, they would use it as propaganda to demoralize my fellow prisoners. Our Code said we could only go home in the order of our capture, and there were men who had been shot down before me. I thought about it, though. I wasn't in great shape, and I missed everything about America. But I turned it down.

A lot of prisoners had it worse than I did. I'd been mistreated before, but not as badly as others. I always liked to strut a little after I'd been roughed up to show the other guys I was tough enough to take it. But after I turned down their offer, they worked me over harder than they ever had before. For a long time. And they broke me.

When they brought me back to my cell, I was hurt and ashamed, and I didn't know how I could face my fellow prisoners. The good man in the cell next door, my friend, Bob Craner, saved me. Through taps on a wall he told me I had fought as hard as I could. No man can always stand alone. And then he told me to get back up and fight again for our country and for the men I had the honor to serve with. Because every day they fought for me.

I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's. I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I loved it for its decency; for its faith in the wisdom, justice and goodness of its people. I loved it because it was not just a place, but an idea, a cause worth fighting for. I was never the same again. I wasn't my own man anymore. I was my country's.

I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need. My country saved me. My country saved me, and I cannot forget it. And I will fight for her for as long as I draw breath, so help me God.

“…What a contrast between Cindy McCain's life and love of country vs. Michele Obama's statements in the past like when she said, ‘for the first time in my adult life - I am proud of my country.’”

For me, that statement screams out racial intentions. It’s wonderful that there is a black man running for office-----but what about a “qualified” one with experience and the know how?

…”'Barack will NEVER let you go back to the way you used to live' - or something like that. How arrogant a statement is that??”

It’s not only arrogant---it’s ignorant.

On my own blog I had a little debate with someone regarding this.

The most recent comment I got regarding this was: “…If I were the boss I would choose the younger more energetic person who will be easy too work with.”

Isn’t that discrimination of age--- “he’s too old” type of mentality? Older, wiser, more experience as opposed to younger, more energetic and lacking experience, but willing to learn as they go? That idea doesn’t sit well with me, especially talking about a leader for our country. “Oh let him have a shot at it!”

For me, I’d rather an old professor who’s been teaching for many years rather than learning from a new kid who just got out of school trying to teach a lecture hall full of people who need guidance.

...and you know I love to disagree with you, Christine. I can't with this!

Hi Christine,
Like most (but not all) things, I disagree with you on McCain's speech. I thought it was over-staged. I just imagined him in his hotel room for days practicing his facial expressions. It just didn't work for me. But that isn't to say I don't like the man himself or some of his message. If I am going to have to live under another Republican presidency, McCain and Palin would be my first choice out of the rest who were trying to be president.

I watched Palin's speech too. I think she eclipsed McCain by a mile. I suppose that is good. I know that all of these speeches are written by someone else, so I am looking forward to hear what she has to say when it isn't written for her. I have a feeling she will be pretty reasonable. I can only hope that she will be a Republican in the same way that the Gov. of California is.

Hi Deb,

Based on what she and her husband listened to in the pews of Rev. Wrong's hate America church, I would say that the anger being stirred up via the "Black Liberation Theology" preached there definitely had an affect upon their worldview.

That, combined with the socialism/Marxism gov't mentality and the corrupt personalities that have influenced them throughout their lives makes for a nasty combination.

How nice that we have something that we agree with to discuss!

Sometimes, I wonder if getting Obama elected, then exposing all of these scandals afterwards, is the plan of the DNC? Could Obama's presidential bid just be a springboard to get Biden in the presidency? Or, will the corrupt millionaires like George Soros have access to the most powerful position in the world via Obama?

I realize that this is all just speculation on my part. At any rate, the thought of Obama making it into the presidency is downright dangerous...and SCARY!

Kevin,

Obviously, Senator McCain is not as great an orator as Obama or Palin. He is more comfortable in the town hall venue when speaking to the American people.

With that said, I still think that the speech was wonderful on content.

Despite the fact that speeches are often written by others, would you agree that they must contain what the person believes in their heart of hearts? A writer may have the ability to get the main points across more eloquently, but the speaker needs to proofread the content and approve it. If you want to use the "speechwriter" ploy against McCain and Palin, then you have to say it about Obama, too.

I certainly hope that McCain is NOTHING LIKE Arnold. Our gov. is a RINO. He has lied and has broken countless promises to traditional family groups. He said one thing to get elected (and vetoed dangerous bills); but then a year after the election, he signed similar egregious bills into law. That's downright sinister.

BTW, I have seen your posts about the "shaddup" issue via technorati. Your comment must have been "eaten" by blogger because it didn't appear in the moderation box.

FYI, in one of the comment threads here, I wrote that one of my comments was zapped after I tried to post it. I have learned to copy each comment to the clipboard now in case it happens again.

I have been told to do worse than "shaddup" - much worse. I have saved some of the terrible comments I have received both here at Talk Wisdom and via my Guestbook. One comment was an actual death threat!

For little ole' me?

So, no need to make such a big deal about that comment and my follow up. Sometimes it's better to laugh it off. It's more difficult to laugh off a death threat, but it isn't difficult to just continue to trust in God. When it's my turn to be called home - it will happen. Otherwise, I will pray and trust in God's protection.

Hey Christine,
I really do hope that the speech writer and the speaker do get together. I have said before that all politicians have their speeches written for them, including Obama. I did like some of what McCain had to say. It was just the delivery that drove me crazy.

And I wish you had contacted me about the 'shaddup' comment going missing. I do think, though, that telling someone to shutup is extremely rude. And that is too bad about the death threat--there are some wacko people out there.

Hey Christine:
I forgot to say that I was sorry for calling you a hypocrite for not publishing my lost comment. I really should have just emailed you for an explanation instead of jumping to conclusions!
Take care,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Personally, I prefer honesty, substance, optimism, and integrity in a person's speech. These rank as being far greater than method of "delivery" - to me.

I thought that the "shaddup" controversy wouldn't have bothered you so much and that it would be dropped. However, when I noticed three posts about it in my "blog reactions" list at technorati, I figured that I had better tell you that the comment must have been zapped by blogger.

I don't know why, but a few times in the past when I attempted to view your site it often took a long time to load. My computer often runs slow as it is, so I avoid the sites that do that. I don't like to visit MySpace sites either.

I probably shouldn't speak for Pastor Foster. However, to me, it was just a humorous way that he used to let John know that we don't appreciate him immediately attacking someone with whom conservative Christians want to celebrate.

While cleaning up after dinner tonight, I noticed a very positive report about Palin - done by Greta Van Sustern on Fox News. When I switched over to Anderson Cooper's show, EVERYTHING being presented about Palin was negative! He found people who were willing to say negative opinions about her. He even had an interview lined up with the ex-brother-in-law. In a brief clip before a commercial, the interviewer asked, "did you make a death threat against your ex-wife's mother (or, was it parents?)." The clip showed the man saying, "no." Then it went to commercial. I didn't bother sticking around to hear the rest.

The Obama worshippers of the MSM wouldn't DARE place him in a bad light! No interviews with any of his accusers (like Larry Sinclair). That man had to change his blog provider over six times because of harassment! He also had his National Press Club event censored from broadcast on the networks. He has been stating his case on radio shows and blogs.

Now, compare this type of protection over Obama with the immediate firestorm being leveled by the MSM against Palin. They all jumped at the chance to smear her with the first scent of any hint of a scandal! When it came to trashing Palin, Cooper immediately zeros in on an accuser. What's wrong with this picture??

Thank you for your kind apology for calling me a "hypocrite." Perhaps I deserve it sometimes. Don't we all?

I have had other Christian bloggers censor my comments at their sites. Usually, they are of the liberal leftist worldview. They don't like any "Bible-thumpers" coming over and sharing the truth of God's Word!

Have a good weekend!

Christine
