Stand Up For What Is Right

Each morning, I look for a brief devotional piece that lifts my spirit and praises God. Sometimes I pick up one of the devotional books that I have on a coffee table in the living room, or on the shelf next to my computer. Other times, I simply open my email and there are several waiting there to be read.

This morning, I chose to open up my daily "Turning Point" devotional. God continues to amaze me! The following devotional reiterates a portion of what was said during my first The Truth Project lesson!

Dr. David Jeremiah:

"So if you believe in something that's good, honest, and right, stand up for it."

That is what I attempt to do at this blog. That is the reason Talk Wisdom exists! That is why I often share book excerpts, essays, guest blogger newsletters/essays and links to other blog posts written by Bible-based Christian authors here. These are all ways that I have chosen to share things that are good, honest, right, and most important of all Jesus Christ honoring!

There is a saying - "If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything." Take a look at what some random people said about that quote. Some responses/opinions are good at that site - but most are very inadequate and incomplete. How ironic that the site titles it "Resolved question."

Then, take a look at the wisdom shared by Dr. David Jeremiah in the following devotional!

And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord . . .Deuteronomy 6:18

Standing up for what's right is not an easy thing to do. In fact, some people feel it is easier to go with the flow of whatever is popular at the time or avoid the issue altogether. Sadly, this can lead to an entire culture of weak, misguided, and apathetic people. As one person states, "When 40 million people believe in a dumb idea, it's still a dumb idea. So if you believe in something that's good, honest, and right, stand up for it."

There is one person in the Bible who perhaps understood this better than anyone. When Joseph was approached by his master's wife, he not only stood up for what was right, he ran, leaving his coat behind him. Most people would think he was crazy for running away from such a proposition; but he knew what was right, and he stood by it. For that, he was immeasurably blessed by God.

Whether you're dealing with ethical issues at work or moral issues with friends and family, don't be afraid to stand up for what you know is right. It may be difficult, but it will be worth it. Take God's hand, and take a stand!

My basic principle is that you don't make decisions because they are easy; you don't make them because they're popular; you make them because they're right. - Theodore Hesburgh
