Rethink Conference Is About Compromise

I just became aware that Stacy over at Active Christian Media attended the first day of the "Rethink Conference" in Garden Grove, California yesterday.

Stacy writes:

Today has been a very interesting day for me as I had the opportunity to cover day one at the first annual Rethink Conference here in Garden Grove, California.

My day began by arriving around 8:30 to the media center and then checking in with the appropriate people so I knew where to go for the panel press conference two hours later. After that I went into the main sanctuary and sat and listened to the Senior Dr. Schuller fumble around introducing the speakers that actually arrived late to the conference. It was actually very interesting. At one point Dr. Schuller made the comment about not being tempted by anything at the age of 80 and Erwin McManus ,who was standing on the stage with him, started laughing. Dr. Schuller asked why he was laughing, and Erwin said that he was going to say "there are pills for that" - Well, then Dr. Schuller made a comment about that and let’s just say it was really awkward for me as I was sitting there hearing these guys make subtle sexual innuendo first thing in the morning. So…

Then Bishop Charles Blake was introduced, after they introduced Chuck Colson because I’m guessing Bishop Blake was late. And it was interesting listening to Bishop Blake because I knew nothing about him. He didn’t really say much, and his main point was to "Rethink the Future" and something about if you want to have great plans, make sure they are big enough so that God can make it a miracle and for something that He has do to. He also talked about building a $65 million dollar cathedral in Los Angeles, which I was stunned by. And mentioned an organization that he founded called Save Africa’s Children that is supposed to be a ministry to, well, help out Africa’s children.

Then near the end of his speech he made some comments about the war that seemed like he was saying that he’d like the war to end. It may be me misunderstanding what he said, but I got the feeling like it was a liberal comment. Regardless, it was an interesting way to start the day.

Obviously, Stacy felt something within her spirit that was telling her something is not right here. Thankfully, her discernment ears have already been turned on.

This is the comment I wrote at her blog:

Why am I not surprised that this sexual innuendo conversation occurred at this conference and made you feel uncomfortable?

In one word?

Compromise.

Just this one incident should awaken all true Christians. The Bible tells us, “all who have ears to hear let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Stacy, I suggest that you should be very wary of this “Rethink” conference.

Here are some links that may be of special interest to you:

What Is Rethinking?
Reinventing Rethinking
Rethinking Culture

There are several more posts about the heresy dangers of this conference at that blog. The above links will get you started in having a discerning eye.

This portion from the “Rethinking Culture” link pretty much sums it up quite well:

Perhaps that is why everyone needs to “rethink” things. Warren Smith writes in his article posted today that

“in his latest book, “Don’t Throw Away Tomorrow: Living God’s Dream for Your Life,” Schuller eagerly writes about the virtue of compromise. In this book, that bears New Age leader Gerald Jampolsky’s endorsement on the back cover, Schuller states, “We need to learn the healing quality of wise compromise.” He further states, “Perhaps the only way to deal with contradictions is to combine them creatively and produce something new. That’s ingenious compromise.” Whether Schuller knows it or not, he just presented the recipe for a New World Religion.”

Just how far will the evangelical church go in its “compromises” with this “rethink” agenda? Just how far will its leaders go to build bridges, coalition and partner with the New Age leaders who also want to build a kingdom on earth for peace?

The Truth:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 55:8)

God bless you for taking the initiative to attend the conference and report on it!

Your sister in Christ,
Christine

This conference is a gathering of demons disguised as angels of light.

I hate to be that blunt, but it is wicked.

I was just talking to a friend in Dallas today who was saying how shocked she was to see some of the names that are there.

Christine this is diaprax. The doctrine of collusion with evil. I will be doing a post tomorrow about it.

Bishop Blake is one of them and the COGIC [www.cogic.com] should be ashamed that its leader is cavorting with the company of Babel spirits.

It's amazing to me how well this fits in with the "Emerging Church" movement, and how much it doesn't fit with what God says in the Bible.

Exactly gcmwatch and Matt!

D.L, do you remember me sending you a copy of an email sent to me by Pastor Miles McPherson of the Rock Church regarding his appearance at the ReThink Conference?

Well, as it turns out he now has a blog and I posted a comment there about my concerns.

It has been very interesting to follow that thread of comments. I think that there were only 2 people who thought that it should be approached with caution.

Here's the link. You will notice that Miles also attended and spoke at a non-Christian event regarding "The Secret."

When I retrieved the link, I noticed a video is now up with Miles' recap of both the "Secret" and "Rethink" conferences. Going over to watch it now.

It has been my experience that whenever I have heard Miles speak or give a sermon, his messages are solidly biblical and true-gospel driven.

It is my sincere hope and prayer that Miles was able to share the true gospel of Christ and the truth of the Bible amongst those who are tending towards (or, are already completely immersed) in the heretical Emerging church movement.

Viewed the video and Pastor Miles does not disappoint!

Since the comment moderation is on over there, I am posting my comment here, too:

Jesus is smiling at you and I would imagine that his words would be something
similar to "well done, good and faithful servant!"

Thank you so much for sharing this recap of the events and your wonderful
message!

I loved hearing that the true gospel message does not move. That is
so important during this postmodern time in history where, unfortunately,
heresy and apostasy often abound...even in some prominent churches!

By saying that "the true gospel message presented through you in your messages
at both events does not move," then those who do not yet know Christ or
those who may knowingly, or unknowingly, be steeped in error will need to do
the moving towards the true gospel message of Christ!

Awesome!

You had many people praying for you. How great it is to find out that the
Lord's hand was upon you, enabling you to have the time and ability to deliver
the absolute truth of the Bible and Christ's salvation message to so many people
who are searching for the Truth! Our prayers were answered! God can use
anything...even a traffic jam!

Will you be sharing more about what you experienced and encountered at both
events?

God bless you Pastor Miles!

In Christ,
Christine

Before anymore negativity is said about the ReThink Conference "as a whole" based on one's perception and only 1 day, please rethink before making bold and unfounded statements. Unfounded because it is based on one's opinion, perception, and feeling.

To see a small clip what took place a that conference, see a clip on http://www.milesahead.tv/

On the tv "menu", click and view "ReThink". May this teach us to rethink ourselves before judging a Christian brother. May it teach us that just because your ways are not confined to yours, that a brother or sister in Christ is far from Him. It could just be the exact opposite.

And after viewing the clip, may you have a talk with God.

God Bless You!

Hi j-nyl,

Your point is well taken.

I am familiar with Pastor Miles and the Rock Church. I viewed his blog clip about "ReThink" and "The Secret" events that he attended. Perhaps you saw my comments of concern there.

Pastor Miles has the discernment not to compromise the gospel, the Person of Jesus Christ, or the Bible. However, other preachers and pastors at these events are known liberal theologians who have compromised all of the above for years.

My concern (as was stated at Miles' blog on this subject) was for the Christian attendees who may be "baby" (not meant as a derogatory term - just descriptive) Christians and not have the discernment ability (yet)to notice when they are being led astray by those at the conference who are preaching heretical ideas.

Miles certainly helped to counter the false gospel of some who also preached there. His steadfast faith and truth in God's Word, Jesus Christ, and the true gospel message came through loud and clear! Hopefully, the attendees took what he shared to heart and not what the majority (from what I have read about their theological positions) of the speakers at ReThink were preaching. Unfortunately, there were many speaker there who, in their own way, choose to compromise the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I think that it is important to try and be unified in our evangelical Christian faith; but sometimes it is not possible when heresy is being pushed by some.

Please read the book of Jude. It describes how the closer we get to the end times, there will be many "leaders" who will come into the Christian churches as "wolves in sheep's clothing" (meaning, appearing to be true Christians - but they certainly are not) and try to lead people astray from the true gospel. It is only right to point them out when they appear and preach a false gospel.

Not all churches that claim to be Christian preach "Jesus Christ and Him crucified." That is the plumbline for authenticity.

If you attend Miles' church, then you are very fortunate to be in a true, steadfast, biblically-based, Christ crucified and risen to life gospel preaching church!

It is my sincere hope that you will contine to visit here and comment!

God bless you too!
In Christ,
Christine
